New York State Asks DC to Cover All Storm Costs

YORK/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - New York state on Wednesday asked the U.S. federal government to pay all the costs of cleaning up and repairing damage from massive storm Sandy that tore through the Northeast this week and crippled New York City.

Governor Andrew Cuomo said he is asking fellow Democrat, President Barack Obama, to pay 100 percent of the estimated $6 billion bill, at a time that state and local government budgets remain constrained by a weak economic recovery.

That would be a significant change from last year when the federal government covered about 75 percent of the $1.2 billion cost paid by New York to clean up after storm Irene hit the region.

They would. If I remember correctly, families of Oklahoma City.

victims received NOTHING from the Feds but NY 911 families got a fair amount of money as did NYC.

Bloomberg

has just made a deal - he will endorse Obama, Obama will print paper cash.

And progressive New Yorkers (who were telling us for years how they love to pay taxes) would love that others (via inflation tax) will bail them out, rather then paying themselves.

He sure changed the economic climate didn't he?

A good thing!

Honestly, I see this as a good thing. All things considered, the federal government can literally make "money" out of nothing and grant it to NY. If the people of NY would be helped by this, it would money better spent than if the Feds just gave their funny money to their buddies or some retarded pet project. If the " money " fell into the right hands, I see this as a good thing. Isn't a unforeseable natural disaster like this what the general welfare clause is all about?

"Not yours to give." - Davy Crockett. Cconstitutional issue.

Please research: Davy Crockett, audit, & public purse. Mr Crockett was a stanch believer in audits for all bills submitted for payment by the US Treasury. I hope you will recognize common sense as known in the 1800s. By the way, Davy Crockett is the man of wild west fame including dying at the battle of the Alamo.

The "Georgetown Fire" was actually in Alexandria. The vote was taken January 21, 1827 before Crockett was in office. Crockett did vote against the bill to give aide to Widow Brown but was not present for the discussion. Unlike Ellis' story the bill actually passed house and senate. In fact Ellis was mainly a dime novelist who was born 12 years after this speech was to take place. This is a summary of the information given by historian Ann Toplovich. Comment by TheReverendWho

According to a Crockett biographer, it is true. [Some stretches, but mostly true.]

At first this headline made me angry...

But then it occurred to me. Should we really be surprised? This is the direction this country is headed anyway. Most people would probably consider this type of thinking to be just fine. In fact, they would think you were a monster if you didn't agree with them.

Message from the White House to all persons who are

located at areas that were blown over, flooded or frozen by Sandy will receive a new TV, and, of course, a cell phone, compliments of Obomba Soetoro. Remember, November 6 is show time. We do our part and you do yours. Ain't that grand? It's a change you can believe in!

Why don't they just borrow

Why don't they just borrow from the Federal Reserve Discount Window ... lolol ..... they can borrow at almost NO interest lol ... but I have a feeling they don't intend on paying any of it back ... especially since they are 320 billion in debt. I'm a New Yorker ... and as soon as I graduate and can get a job I plan on moving the hell out of here.

All paper money eventually returns to its real intrinsic value, zero. - Voltaire

Absolutely rediculous.

Why is it so hard to grasp that the gov't CAN'T just give you money/help? They forcefully TAKE it from someone else. The gov't CAN't just print money. It STEALS the value from the dollars in circulation already. If politicians really wanted to help people they'd develop some skill to go and help rebuild. Why can't NY politicians ASK the rest of the country for help instead of telling the gov't to TAKE from everyone else and give it to them?

If ignorance is bliss, Washington DC must be heaven.

Yep

Its cause NYS is bankrupt. 320B in debt, ~25% Debt:GDP

New York's top financial official

says, "They can print money, we can't do that here."

If Ron Paul, with our help, has brought the role of the federal reserve into public consciousness, the country still doesn't understand that printing money is theft.

Hmmm The FED can print money.

But but but...is it not the tax payer that pays the tab? Like add it on to the trillions debt. AND this is exactly how the Rothschild usury banks make their money. WE the people pay the debt plus interest. So right on, print up the money. This is such a surreal farce it is mind boggling!
