‘We Need Food, We Need Clothing’: Staten Island Residents Plead for Help 3 Days After Sandy

The residents of Staten Island are pleading for help from elected officials, begging for gasoline, food and clothing three days after Sandy slammed the New York City borough.

“We’re going to die! We’re going to freeze! We got 90-year-old people!” Donna Solli told visiting officials. “You don’t understand. You gotta get your trucks down here on the corner now. It’s been three days!”

Staten Island was one of the hardest-hit communities in New York City. More than 80,000 residents are still without power. Many are homeless, and at least 19 people died on Staten Island because of the storm.

Looks like quite a few

Looks like quite a few commenters there are not sympathetic to this and neither am I. These people had a week to prepare. Its one thing if you lose your entire house or something, but other than that, there isnt much of an excuse.
There is probably 2-4(depends) weeks of food in my house at a given time. Once I get some money, I will be sure to buy some of those packs that last for years. I would love to have a 1000 gallon fuel tank filled with fuel, but I have no where near the money needed for that currently.

Where is Fema?

Churches and other groups....Can those who live close take food and clothing in? Or is it blocked?
