Need recommendations on buying a rifle

I'm looking to buy a legal assault rifle. Would like any recommendations on licensed FFL dealers online or in Las Vegas. I've been looking at budsgunshop but just wondering if there are better deals to be had. Also, any suggestions on type and caliber would be great. In a perfect world, this rifle would be both versatile as a hunting rifle for deer and possibly elk as well as defense. I live in Nevada so we are able to buy some pretty neat toys here.

As for caliber recommendations, let's try to avoid getting too pricey on ammunition costs. I know some caliber rounds are expensive and some are pretty cheap.

What? The guy is asking what gun he should buy. You're talking as if the only gun owners are conspiracy theorists - that's untrue, there's millions of people across the United States of many different political persuasions that own firearms.

That being said, it might be a wise decision for the OP to sign up to a forum that is about firearms.

Did he have a suggestion on best shotgun? Curious. I traded all of my shotguns for a 1931 Ford AA a few years ago and never restocked. This weekend is one of the biggest bestest gun shows in the West.....

If you want a rifle big

If you want a rifle big enough for elk the ammo will be expensive. I would suggest a 30-06. If you dont really need an elk rifle, a smaller caliber like a 223 would be a good SHTF rifle and you could afford to stock up on ammo.

They have a good selection and decent prices and free shipping. I made one purchase from them and it went well. Took about four days after the order was made. Picked it up at a local gunsmith who is has a FFL and charged me twenty five bucks for the transfer.
