Teacher tells student - "You only have 2 choices" UPDATE

I was driving in the car with my daughter, she's in 1st grade and she heard a political ad on the radio, then she told me she had voted in her class.

I immediately became interested..

Me - "Oh you guys did a vote in your class?"
Daughter - "Yeah, I told my teacher I didn't want Mitt Romney or Barack Obama"
Me - " Wow, you really said that? What did she say?"
Daughter - "She said, well those are the only ones you can vote for."
Me - "What? That's not true.. what did you say to her?"
Daughter - "I told her that Im not gonna vote for them, I'll make a little voting place in my room where only people that want to vote for Ron Paul can go there and vote"
Me - "Nice Kiddo"

High Fives immediately ensued

UPDATE:

I went online and pulled up a sample ballot..
I showed her where you vote for president..

O Barack Obama / Joe Biden
O Mitt Romney / Paul Ryan
O Gary Johnson / James P. Gray
O Write In ________________

I said "see.. Gary Johnson, there's another choice right there, and if you don't like those three choices, you can write Ron Paul right there on that line"
She said "Yeah, let me do it"
I said "Well it's just an image you can't click on it, but maybe we'll print it up and you can fill it in"

I'm thinking about putting it in her folder all filled out to take to her class so her teacher can learn something

You go

little buddy. :0)

I would stick up for myself in school too. And my Mommy would always stick up for me. Go mommy too!!!

Keep it up in a respectful way and those who disagree with you will "usually" be respectful to you.

GOOD JOB

both of the major candidates

both of the major candidates support central banks. it is a plank of the Communist MAnifesto. If you support either candidate you are a Communist.

Maybe

You should show your daughter all the votes her story is getting here!

"a little child shall lead them..."

The Bible says, in Isaiah 11:6, that "a little child shall lead them..."

I'm from California and I wrote in Ron Paul...Catching heat for it...Don't much care what people say about Ron Paul or me...I love Ron Paul and always will..

Ron Paul is simply the best statesman this country has ever had..The last hope for America..

Yeah

I'm in NC, Jill didn't make it on the ballot here

My daughter is 7 years old

My daughter is 7 years old and also has a vote in her public elementary school next week. The student teacher in her class told them they were to vote for Romney or Obama. Her main teacher also thought it was only two candidates. My daughter is already planning on telling them Gary Johnson is also running. Write-ins are not allowed in my state. She wants to tell them she doesn't want to vote for either one. She's saying she will either write her own candidate if it's printed out or tell them she doesn't want to vote for either. I told her to be brave and we'd back her up no matter what happens. I hope she stands her ground because the kids can be a driving force to educate as well.

Public Schools have always told me I only had one choice

And it was always for the leftist democrat. Man I hate Public Indoctrination Institutions.

Its really only one of the reasons I want Romney to win-to see smug Obama lose and his mindless supporters.

I bet babies pop out of the womb screaming "RON PAUL!"

after all he was a OBGYN for a number of years they kinda owe it to him....

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right. -Henry Ford

the old joke

Ron Paul doesn't deliver babies, he reads them the constitution and they crawl out in anticipation of freedom.

He liberates them!

He liberates them!

Good for her

My son is in first grade also, but we haven't done too much with the election here in our home school. I did just double-check to make sure he knew what a president was, and he said it's a "person who rules the country" --unfortunately true in the current time period! If there were cool kids like your daughter in our local public school, I wouldn't be so worried about sending him there.

I remember when I was student teaching, and one of the teachers came right out during the 2000 election and said to me that it was her job to get kids to be Democrats and to stop thinking the way their parents thought. It's good to see that with proper parenting, kids can stand up for truth regardless of the closed minds of their teachers.

Little moments like these are huge!

When I was little, my mom and dad told me that if I had to go to the bathroom and my teacher wouldn't let me that I should go anyway. It really altered my outlook and that event often pops in my head in situations up to this day.

You and your daughter make me feel proud.

Similar event happened near me

We moved in third grade. New classmates included a special needs kid, Armand. One day he raised his hand and asked the teacher if he could go to the bathroom. The teacher said "No." No more than a minute later, the poor kid was surrounded by a growing lake of urine. Kids laughed, possibly myself included.

Three years later, Armand assaulted me at a urinal; I was just peeing, and he body-checked me from behind. To this day, I continue to have a "shy bladder" because of it.

It was only recently in therapy that I put these two instances together, and realized that it might have been "payback" for laughing. Or perhaps it was completely unrelated. But I've been working on reducing said shyness, and it does seem to be working.

Anyway, that's my story about when the teacher said no, and the kid just went anyway. Not in the manner your parents prescribed, though.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Interesting. Just to be clear...

I don't mean my parents told me to go to the bathroom IN CLASS, just to go to the bathroom anyway, as in leave the classroom then do my thing. Sounds like you may have been on the receiving end of some karma, but now you can turn it into a teachable moment for yours (or someone's) kids.

cheers

I have always told my kids

I have always told my kids the same.

my 1.5 year-old

me: Are you going to vote for Obama
her: noooo..
me: what about Romney?
her: Ron Paul!

Obama gets a "no", but romney is treated as if i must have misspoken.

Haha. Romney doesn't even

Haha. Romney doesn't even exist. Just Ron Paul. Cute.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE CAREFULLY TAUGHT!

ARTIST: Rodgers and Hammerstein
TITLE: You've Got to Be Carefully Taught

SUNG by HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS with ALTERNATIVE LYRICS (starts at 4:30 - 7:50): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLx6dP_21gE&feature=related

Let's write our own lyrics about politics relative to this song! ANYONE? Are you a LIBERTY song writer?

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.

You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!

Carefully Taught...watch and listen carefully to the end...

OOOOH, I like this rendition too, with placards:

Hate, anger and discrimination against race, color, gender and sexuality leading to bullying, violence and suicides; we are bombarded by it everyday. Amidst this cacophony, have we ever paused and asked ourselves how we got this way?

We seek to visually represent these thoughts with this powerful and controversial song, originally written by Rodgers and Hammerstein and beautifully covered by John Pizzarelli. We hope that this video helps stimulate the discussion that we all must have. We would love to hear your views on this so please feel free to comment below at YouTube page.

Thank you for sharing that

beautiful, and powerful rendition. Wow.
