Attention Californians: David vs. Monsanto Documentary

Watch it now:

http://youtu.be/mSkjnz5eUE4

http://articles.mercola.c...

Californians can view this documentary and learn about GMOs and the intimidation Monsanto is wielding over farmers before voting (YES hopefully) on Prop 37.Dr. Joseph Mercola is being attacked and smeared in negative ad mailers, but he posted the documentary link so people can view it for free before that privilege expires on November 10, 2012.

Percy Schmeiser, a feisty and savvy farmer, battled with Monsanto. In the process he has brought to light not only Monsanto’s attempt to control the food supply, but the pitfalls of any company being allowed to have the right to put a patent on higher life forms including birds, fish and human beings.

29:40 minutes in, Percy explains the damage seen from GMOs. He says GMOs are not based on proven science. “We do not want any more GMOs.”… “The corporations want total control of the seed supply which will then give them total control of the food supply. That’s what GMOs are all about; not more food to feed a hungry world but control of the seed supply.”

The second half of the documentary addresses the quality, technology and science associated with GMOs.

Yay!!! That's what we need!!!

Yay!!! That's what we need!!! More regulations!!! Ugh. I'm completely against GMOs, but more regulation is not the answer. A truly free market would take care of this GMO garbage without the headache of regulations. In fact, some of Monsantos competition is labeling their products Non-GMO by their own accord, which is but a taste of a free market at work.

yah, we wouldn't want a State to have the power...

to trump a Federal Agancy like the FDA! (sarcasm)

No... we -would- want to

No... we -would- want to appropriately limit the power of the FDA so that the Monsantos of the world are not favored... and so that State-level regulations are not seen as a solution to the problem caused by the federal government.

or better yet eliminate the FDA

If you only knew how hard I fought to try and stop the "Food Saftey Bill" which gave the FDA even more power! If this State bill does not pass the FDA will be sure to "come the the rescue" which is not what any of us want

"If this State bill does not

"If this State bill does not pass the FDA will be sure to "come the the rescue" which is not what any of us want"

No they won't. There is no other state proposing anything like this. Why hasn't the FDA stepped in with them?

If ingredients lists are required for food then...

should the food not be properly labeled as to what those ingrediants are? If the food contains toxic ingrediants should they be able to leave those off the label? That is what is being done without proper GMO labeling

Ingredient lists should be

Ingredient lists should be demanded by the market, not forced by the tyrannical hand of government.

so a company should be able to put a phony ingredients list

on their product? Then the market (you and I) should have to individualy test each food product to figure out what's actually in it?

"so a company should be able

"so a company should be able to put a phony ingredients list on their product?"

Of course not. That's called fraud. A tiny bit of scientific checking by an independent watchdog group could have the company liable for every cent it has.

right

my point is that GM food is NOT the same and should be included in the ingredients list as such. It's like being able to put "chocolate" on the ingrediants list, when it's actually feces, and arguing that because it once was chocolate you should be able to put "chocolate" on the label.

"It's like being able to put

"It's like being able to put "chocolate" on the ingrediants list, when it's actually feces, and arguing that because it once was chocolate you should be able to put "chocolate" on the label."

And a court of law would probably agree with you. You've described fraud, which can be prosecuted.

How do you go about

How do you go about evaluating any other product you buy? How do you go about evaluating the claims of manufacturers of any other type of product? How do you go about making any other type of choice in life in general?

Michael Nystrom's picture

How?

How would a truly free market take care of it? The end result of a truly free market might be that everything ends up GMO.

But the fact of the matter is that we do not live under a true free market system. In fact, when a milk producer not using Monsanto's rBST growth hormone in milk began labeling their milk to this effect, i.e, "From cows not treated with rBST" guess what Monsanto did. Do you know?

Monsanto went to the court system to require the farm to add the qualifier: "FDA states: No significant difference in milk from cows treated with artificial growth hormones."

In the long run, whether this passes or not, enough awareness has been raised, imo, that it will become a market factor. I hope California passes it. I don't live there, but I think the benefits of such a requirement will ripple throughout the country.

He's the man.

"The end result of a truly

"The end result of a truly free market might be that everything ends up GMO."

If you really believe the free market will always make the wrong choice, why are you even here?

you seem to miss the point

How can there be a free market if the market is blined as to what it is choosing? And the FDA says that food cannot be labeled GMO free (how is this free market)

"How can there be a free

"How can there be a free market if the market is blined as to what it is choosing?"

How is a free market "blind to what it is choosing" if it demands an ingredient list? Or are you suggesting the market doesn't want ingredient lists?

ok I'll back up, I guess some people are not aware of this:

the FDA says it will not allow labels like "GM-free," "GMO-Free" or "biotech-free." The agency says guaranteeing a product to be free of GM material is virtually impossible (not true GMO corn and soy can be tested in a lab to be different) Instead the labels will have to say the food was not produced through bioengineering. The FDA said it may take legal action against companies that violate these guidelines.

part in ( ) is my addition

Exactly. You keep describing

Exactly. You keep describing the FDA as the hindrance to the market and to the free-market solution. Masking the symptoms of the FDA's tyranny is never going to fix the problem. If California passes this thing, just watch the FDA claim jurisdiction and override it like they have with marijuana laws.

never mind

my bad

Yes But

a lot of companies AREN'T. So, we are forced to eat the crap and wonder if we are or not. If Monsanto is fighting this bill so much DON'T YOU THINK THERE IS A REASON? (This is to rama, not michael btw)

skippy

Corporations fight against

Corporations fight against bills that are anti-liberty all the time. That doesn't mean you abandon your principles because it might help someone you dislike not to do so.

Monsanto gave $10,000 to my

Monsanto gave $10,000 to my congressman. I wonder why?

Don't get me wrong, I'm

Don't get me wrong, I'm completely against Monsanto and GMOs. But is begging the government for help in the form of prop 37 philosophically consistent with Dr. Paul's views? Is it consistent with your views? Do you think it's consistent with liberty-minded people's philosophies in general?

Wish Dr Paul

would tell us what he thinks on this subject. Hope someone asks him.

skippy

Someone Voted Me Down

For wanting Ron Paul's opinion? Really? On Daily Paul? WTF?

skippy

I don't think there is any

I don't think there is any need to. What has Dr. Paul consistently said the legitimate role of government is limited to?

Yes I Know

He says leave it to the STATES. Isn't that what this is about? The STATE of California wanting their own say?
