If you are still contributing to a 401k or an IRA, listen to this podcast.

I cashed in my 401k about 6 months prior to 2008 meltdown and since then I've tried to get people to at least stop contributing to their 401k if they won't do the right thing and yank all their money out now.

I just so happened to come across this podcast last night when I was setting up some things to listen to before bed. It provides an excellent theory about the reason 401k's became all the rage in the early 80's and it may very well save you a lot of money depending on the amount you have saved in your 401k and your personal view about how the looming dollar crisis is going to play out.

It's worth taking the time to listen to if for no other reason than to educate yourself. I think the theory put forward is correct and once again, the State is pilliaging us and disguising the theft by convincing us it's really trying to help us save for our retirement.

Did it take a while

for you to get your check once you closed out your 401k? I know people that have recently retired, and they closed out their 401k and still have not received their checks, it's been months.

Freedom - I pulled mine before things hit the fan in 2008

and it was not real easy then. It took me about a week to fill out and fax back all their BS and they never stopped trying to get me to change my mind, but my daughter was starting college and I had some other unexpected expenses that I didn't want to go into debt to pay for so I was persistant. I got my check probably 6 weeks after the first time I called them.

I wish I could say I yanked it because I'm so smart but I was still one of the sheeple back then...I just got lucky with the timing. I hadn't re-educated myself, read End The Fed, or much else at the time.

I've heard it's REALLY a bitch to get at your money now. I think they want you to borrow money against it or ANYTHING other than take the cash. Tell your friends to keep pushing. I hear that petty soon they are going to create a law that will make it illegal to withdraw 401k money until age 55 or 60. In fact, some companies now REQUIRE you to pay into a 401k as a conditon of employment! That essentially makes it another "social security" deduction from your check.

The Government is officially worse than the Mafia now.
