NY and NJ are at the Breaking Point, Open thread on Sandy aftermath and what happens next

What are you hearing?

I'm hearing about some desperate situations and parts of society on the verge. We are not seeing this in the news right now. I have several people reporting from Staten Island and other areas that people are cold and down to their last candles. What happens next?

Here are some photos sent to my phone from a friend:

If you know anyone that has firsthand knowledge, please post here. The Daily Paul Community wants the facts not the BS we're being fed on FOX.

deacon's picture

here is intel from my friends

names removed to protect the ones involved

people in the camps are comparing the situation to auschwitz
[21:49] j how ....................nice

military control and civilians dont mix real well

r i talked to one guy on the radio...he said the guards are not letting people get in touch with the outside to tell about the conditions...he had an FT-817 HF rig and antenna in his bag when they bvrought him in
[21:50] j frequin hogans heros

and i aint laughin!

r they are crammed into open-ended canvas tents, like used in the war between the states, in the middle of a winter storm...they are each given 1 cot, 1 foam pillow, 1 sheet, and 1 blanket
[21:51] they were all given ID badges to use and there are armed guards everywhere...no admittance to anywhere without the badge

j so are they the Citizens or are they prisoners?

free to leave the camp?
[21:52] r his group were holed up in a school and were doing fine, but then the feds came in to "help" them...took 4 hours on a bus driving back roads in the storm to get to the camp

apparently, they are not free to leave the camps

"for their own safety"

they were pissed when they found out he had a radio

j life is a bitch
[21:53] r cell phones were confiscated upon "tagging"

j for their safety......................sounds like BS to me

r it is

he said that any supplies they had carried in were confiscated

j where is the Kampo ?

r it's in NJ
[21:54] j DIX ?

r apparently, there are dozens of them and there are some articles about them out...one is at a racetrack

d_ how long till they off em all time to take a shower komrade

r he said it took 3 days to get lukewarm water in the showers

people are starting to lose it
[21:55] j ronny, i was not in the military but is it this AFU and disorganized in the Military senairo?

r, no heat in the tents at all and hardly any food or water...the guards and workers seem to be eating well, though

no

not at all

j,of course
[21:56] Then they must be intentionally PUSHING them

r soldiers generally get food and water, latrines, showers, even if we have to do it ourselves...unless command does not want you to succeed

he said there is no medical care in his camp

j,now that dont sound right at all................not at all
[21:57] r, nope

from what the articles say and what i've gathered via the radio, the gov is coming to shelters and rounding people up "for their protection"

shipping them to camps

at gunpoint
[21:58] j, at gun point?

r,so, there you have it

j, as in..................i gonna murder you if i cant save you?

r,the gov workers are accompanied by armed feds and police

i guess no one has pushed the issue

or we have not heard about it

j,matter of time , that is all
[21:59] r,probably

cops are going door to door in some areas confiscating anything that people are "hoarding"

j,ty very much for the update................these are very important

like tuna salad?

r,also, telling people they do not need a warrant in an emergency

d,at gun point takeing them from warm safe place and put in prison camps mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm think thats all ya need to put a stop to something
[22:00] r i would think so

j,i must have missed that Ammendment to the Konstitutuion

d,im with pb to bad its so flippen far away

r,bet those people think twice about going to the camps in the future...if there is a next time for them

d_,at leas in mindrot they werent taken from good places at gun point

r, you'd be stopped...no one gets in or out by all accounts

and i have independent verification about what pb was saying: non-union workers are being turned away in droves

_ going to get them means going to get them there isnt no being stopped bs

it is time

i can understand that r

this reads like a practice run by the feds to work out the bugs for a later date

IS AN A-NARCHIST ONE WHO PRACTICES THE ART OF SQUEALING?

Pretty unsettling stuff

And no media coverage?

mdefarge and Nonna

Will be interested in both of your takes on this as you are, so to speak, at the center of the storm.

fonta

Most things are back to normal in the part of NJ

where I live, the northeastern part. Still some downed trees laying on peoples' houses but, for the most part, the trees that fell have been chopped up and are laying on the side of the road, as opposed to the middle of the streets, like before.

Gas stations are open and there isn't anymore police presence or lines. Stores have restocked their shelves with fresh food.

There are pocktes of outages here and there but, nothing like before.

I haven't been to the shore area. I think that might be where deacon is writing about. Never saw any tents around here, even when things were just awful. Anyone living by water, like mdefarge, is suffering from the cold air and lack of electrical power, that is if they even have a home left.

deacon's picture

i am not sure

where this took place, not familiar with the area
but this is being done to US,and it needs to be heard
i am so very sorry the 2 of you are in that mess
i pray all is well or gets better, given the circumstances
do you need anything?

IS AN A-NARCHIST ONE WHO PRACTICES THE ART OF SQUEALING?

Thanks for asking.

I'm fine. Still w/o heat or electric, though I do have gas to the stove burners. I feel like a squatter, camped out in my kitchen in three layers of clothing; but a neighbor ran an extension cord through a window, enough to power a small space heater and 60W lamp, and I keep spaghetti pots of water simmering on the stove all day. Many in our little rivertown are in this situation. Stores are still out. A service station was devastated. Our mail is being handled by a neighboring town. The bank is still closed. But things could be worse. (Did you see pictures of Staten Island?)

The power company seems to have done what it needs to do re power lines and all, now waiting for the okay from building inspectors re what homeowners/landlords need to do ~ get literally everything cleared out of basements and for some, first floors (where some had water to four feet) ~ you should see the stuff that's still daily carted away! ~ to have everything professionally power-washed and new appliances ordered, installed, and and electrical work inspected. (Everything "by the book" this time.) Some are waiting for loan approvals.

We're used to some basement flooding w/a certain confluence of events: Nor'easter, full moon, & high tide. I'd initially planned to stay, glad in the end I went to a friend's house inland some. That day, our town had already begun to flood... and it was still *low* tide, and the storm wasn't due to hit for hours yet... the flooding "just" from that tidal surge. Yikes! As it was, two of the roads out of town were already impassable.

I'd have been freaking out to have my one-story home entirely surrounded by the Hudson, with water rising to mere inches below the first floor and with our town's three marinas' worth of boats and logs and parts of outbuildings and piers and all sorts of debris crashing all over the place. Boats were torn off moorings (or lifted off dry docks) and went sailing around on their own, landing in people's yards, dozens landing in the road. I returned to find a sailboat where my deck stairs used to be, leaning against the little house less than a foot from a picture window. (The deck railing is all full of dings.) Hey, that boat and seven others piled up near it did not come *through* the deck, wall, or window. (Maybe because I walked the periphery before I left and prayed over my home?) Truly, the aftermath looked surreal.

This? Lifelong residents here never saw anything like it before.(For various reasons, I remain suspicious!) Truly, so many were taken off guard. But in getting people evacuated as necessary as the storm progressed (in a bucket at one point) and providing food and shelter for some for days, our volunteer fire department was terrific! And in handling this enormous cleanup, our DPW workers are the best!

It's 41 degrees at the moment, 51 in the house. The only thing we could use here in the Hudson Valley is a couple of nice, warm days! Seeing as this is now going on Week Three, the learning lesson for me was that, really, I was not prepared. And as I mentioned at the "Have a good day" post, it did make me realize how much I take for granted. My prayers go out to those who lost their homes or remain evacuated, and the families who lost loved ones. Thanks again for your concern, deacon. :)

Thank you, deacon! I'm okay now.

Perhaps mdefarge will find this post and chime in. Her living situation is not at all good but, she has so far refused to temporarily vacate her home, despite invitations.

Including from you, Nonna. :)

I very much appreciated that, dear friend. I'll take a raincheck!

Auschwitz?

So, they're starving, then shooting people at random, then burning the bodies?

You need to grow up.

You know these people?

As in, met in person? Forgive me for suspecting "fearmongering" from the internet. If this is accurate, it is deeply disturbing.

Here's what happens next in New Jersey

http://www.infowars.com/christie-warns-nj-residents-of-post-...

I still don't know why the $2,000+ every homeowner in the State, pays quarterly in property taxes (yes, that's more than $8,000 a year per household in a heavily populated State) isn't MORE THAN ENOUGH for the politicians here.

Here is an update from Hand of Light on site in Queens /Rockaway

It seems there is a lot to clean up but as far as supplies needed at this time we seem to be covered. THAT IS GOOD NEWS! I have found that people can get supplies together on a drop of a hat, what really is typically needed is volunteers to help clean up. Red Cross will not lift a finger when it comes to clean up. So the community is dependent on each other and groups like Hands of Light.

Here is what Nancy sent me to tell you guys here waiting to help:

Hands of Light in Action DEX--we have had everything we need thanks to all the generous donations from so many. The communities are not waiting around for someone to come in but have come together to get it done.

It's been pretty amazing how much has been done in less then a week. Lots of work left but it's good. And seriously all New York utility trucks, garbage, fire and police--they were even put in large forces on Sunday. I'm impressed!

I'm sorry that some are complaining on News but we have been to the complaint areas and they all are rocking the clean up plus people in their SUVs with loads of stuff, city buses filled with stuff. They have really come together. I am not going to paint bad picture for the devastation is great but the work done is awesome! Going to Coney Island tomorrow to work. Was at Breezy Point/Rockaway all day today. Thanks DEX!

FEMA is taking over clean up efforts.

My neighbor is a certified engineer, and we live in one of the ravished beach towns on the Shore. FEMA said no to his willingness to volunteer and help using his skills, because he was not "contracted by FEMA." He was told that it was about a 4-7 day long process of signing papers and getting contracted to volunteer.

In other words, the ordinary citizens of our city cannot go and help clean up their own city because FEMA assumes the authority to do so. Of course you hear of stories locally of FEMA not cooperating with local officials, and neglecting to coordinate efforts with local officials. So it is just a big mess here.

Also, organizations like the Red Cross are doing similar things. Cooks from upstate New York closed down their restaurants for a few weeks, drove down many hours with their catering trailers to set up shop and help cook good healthy food for those in shelters. In Toms River North, they were told by the Red Cross that they can handle feeding those in the shelters and they rejected their volunteer efforts. By the way, the food being given to those in the shelters are military synthetic rationed food, juice boxes that are nothing but corn syrup and artificial ingredients, processed blueberry muffins etc. The cooks were PISSED. But they were awesome - they went into the parking lot and set up shop anyway. Those in the shelter came out to get a good and healthy breakfast.

Those are just some of the stories.... I have many more. I am a pastor at a church down here and we are slaving away helping and serving those in our broken down and busted up city. And it's beyond frustrating to see those who are supposedly here to help begin blocking our efforts to rebuild our OWN city.

A brief update

Unlike my past efforts, I am working with Nancy Malone at Hands of Light in Action.

http://handsoflightinaction.org/

She is able to get down into areas physically where I am stuck in MI to organize from a far.

I am waiting for Nancy who has arrived in Queens and will be updating me with any needs she might have from a supply standpoint. I will share what I know with you...

Nancy helped my community in a big way this past March when we were hit by a devastating F3 tornado. We were running chainsaws for over a month...

More soon

Westchester got electricity back

today. The media was not smart to pump up hysteria about gasoline. Many who do not drive often decided to fill up their tank and all their canisters. Since NYC mayor finally understood that his subordinates gave him wrong estimates, he canceled the marathon. Open bridges will allow better delivery.

To those who whine all the time, I will note: What do you expect from any big government? If big government can deliver on its promises, we will be all collectivist slaves, for ever. Collectivists would have all arguments to support big government.

Things are pretty organized

Things are pretty organized here in Jersey. I volunteered at a shelter in Keyport today, and they had more supplies than they could handle. They were sending a lot of the supplies to other shelters that needed them. Lots of displaced elderly people there, sleeping on cots. Plenty of food and clothes. Many of the local middle/high school students were volunteering. I imagine it is similar in other parts of NJ. This might give you a good idea of what's happening in NJ:

I know things are bad there and I just hope that the evil feds dont let too many people go without help or die or suffer. Can I ask that everyone say a prayer for the victims of Sandy and those currently in jeopardy.

Lord please help the people suffering from the ravages of this storm. Help them find food, warmth, shelter and to re-build their lives the best they can. We ask this through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Only I'm in a difficult position to spearhead it. I have a great friend named Nancy Malone who has a 503c and shes now in Queens.

I hope by now you all realize it's a LIE about those 800+ FEMA camps being designed to HELP people during natural disasters.

Where is FEMA now? What are they doing? Are those FEMA camps now being used to house displaced NY and NJ residents?

If not...what are they there for? What is their purpose? What is the purpose of those billion plus hollow point bullets?

Just saw on Facebook

Apparently, FEMA is offering $300 in foodstamps for those without power. What? First, how does that help if you can't cook? Secondly, how are they suddenly qualified for FS now simply because they have no power? Thirdly, those FS are on debit cards that aren't going to work anywhere if there is no store in their neighborhood with power.

$300 in FS is three months worth of food for me and a whole lot more than DHHS gives out to anyone on a regular basis.

On their official blog, which actually is a bit interesting if you want real time updates from FEMA's perspective, FEMA has 'de-bunked' the rumor about food stamps as disinformation. the address is blog.fema.gov and gives quite a bit of information, updates and photos etc.
