The point is Johnson sued

The point is Johnson sued under the anti-trust law for being excluded from free and open access to the debates. Isn't hypocritical participating in the alternative debate that is excluding two of the original four candidates based on their less-favorable polling numbers -- the very same criteria under which he was excluded from the "prime time" debates! So his claimed belief in open access was a lie as well --all he cared about was being in the privileged position and as soon as he got it he didn't give a damn about so-called "open access to debate"

Good point

More over, he was not a good "debater" as much as just a "presenter" of the liberty position.

A good debater can anticipate the others ideas, handle them, counter them, and dispel them for the his OPPONENTS LISTENING audience. That is how one wins a debate.

Sadly it this way,.... half the viewing audience knows the Green Party side really well, and puts a check mark down when their candidate relays party viewpoint. The other half of the viewing listening audience knows the Libertarian Party side really well, and also puts a check mark down when their candidate conveys their viewpoint very well.

The "debate" begins when one or the other starts in on the ideas underpinning the others position. This basically did not happen.

And sadly, for this country, a REAL deep level debate needs to happen between the LP and the Greens.... We must win them over to our side, or, go over to theirs. Failure to win the argument means we get what we have today, a stagnate stalemate. A country without direction or an understanding as what to do to fix problems. The LP and the GP represent the polar extremes on some really keep issues. It is there that our debater for the LP must have as his/her goal to "win" over the other sides audience, point by point.

Take raising the minimum wage or take the raising of corp/individual taxes... that ground must be "won" by convincing the other's base that "wow, I did not know that before". And of course making the intellectual walk from being pro-min wage and pro-taxes back over to the LP side, -- easy on the EGO.

That is what debates are supposed to do. When you understand that, you understand that your job is to win the other guys supporters over to your side, not by telling them what they want to hear, but by getting their reasoning mind to follow your reasoning which leads one to be against min wage and against raising taxes.

I firmly believe that we must come together, the LP and GP. Those are the two intellectual motors which feed the giant heavily populated middle. And that giant middle takes its cues, its ideas and its understanding from the few intellectuals found inside the LP and GP. The way to get these two to come together is by having REAL DEBATES over fundamental ideas.

Fortunately for us, that is what we love --political ideas -- ...and its also what they love. Both of us are deeply passionate about them and can go on and on and on, for hours, days, weeks, or years.

SO... What we both need to do is stop listening to our own voices in the Liberty movement echo chamber and start handling the other sides ideas. That is, we need to have REAL debates and DEBATE OFTEN.

The absolute BEST person to

The absolute BEST person to do that for us is(drum roll please) ...TOM WOODS!

Gary wasn't very persuasive, and didn't really counter her socialist economic policies. Tom Woods would have wiped the floor with her!

I started to laugh when I saw gary pull a mitt

I am so sick of politicians thinking it will earn them votes by screaming over others asking for a chance to speak. How does that show power again?

wow this made the 3rd party more laughable IF that were even possible. I don't see having a 3rd party getting huge anytime soon and once it does it will get taken over and from what I saw tonight it won't be that difficult.

stay local and fuck federal keep em limited

FROM: http://www.dailypaul.com/242897/updated-list-of-liberty-cand...

they can't even get on the same level

As doctor ron paul....
Ron is certainly way a head of everyone one when it comes to politics....
He's the Jesus of politics...by that I mean the savior, the light, the truth, the tree of life..
Ron Paul is a genius....and even gary and jill put together can't match his genius...
I pray that people will wake up...and that ron paul gets a gold and silver statute by right next to the constitution....and that hopefully he is president in 2016

They must have...

spiked Johnson's water with something, cause this man looks under the "influence" when he is speaking. Either that or he's smoked some bad granola before the debate.

The Libertarian Party, irrelevant since 1971.

I voted for Gary Johnson

I voted for Gary Johnson

Gary Johnson

...started out good, but then devolved into his typical hysterical, shrieking style. Content-wise he did fairly well.

Disagree totally

The only thing I see wrong about Gary Johnson's speaking is that he is passionate about what he is saying and actually believes it (which is the way it supposed to be) I think you are so conditioned at watching puppets on TV, you don't know what to make of it when you see a real human being speaking.

Yeah, maybe we should train him so he sounds more like Obama or Romney... maybe he can give real fake smiles, and have perfect voice inflection... then people would listen... forget about the content of what he is saying.

Personally, I loved it, him calling "Baloney" on Stein, who if she is a Dr., ANYONE could be a doctor. She is worse than Obama and Romney combined, but a perfect contrast for someone who knows what he is talking about.

"Hysterical, shrieking style"??? Have you not been paying attention to what is going on? I need a president that gets upset over what is going on... I don't think he was hysterical enough!

I really do

...understand your point. But this is Amerika, and I hope he doesn't just preach to the choir - who will forgive his over-the-top delivery method. If a yet-to-be convinced person hears Gary, he needs to hear the same message, only delivered in a way that is indeed more like the pros on tee vee. I am sorry, but that is just the way it is. Also, nothing wrong with him saying "Baloney". I liked that part, too. Just deliver it like Ronald Reagan is all I'm saying.

His speech mannerisms

His manner of speaking is strange. I've read his speeches and listened to him but haven't seen him while speaking. While watching couldn't concentrate on what he was saying because of the way he said it. His mannerisms prompted me to try to figure out what the heck was wrong. He comes across as a mix of being very effeminate and mentally deficient.
His hands, mouth, head and eye movements being so odd, so constantly in motion and jerky is the reason. He needs serious work on public speaking. Comes across as a not too intelligent, flaky drama queen to put it mildly. Is it nervousness? Have to have a money bomb for a good speech trainer before 2016!

Deekey

I chose to get offended by your comment ;)

You see I'm Italian in blood~ 100%. I talk with my hands and body, more so, the more I passionately believe in something. People call me effeminate for this, or gay, you pick.

I guess, I'd rather look effeminate than: George H Bush (flips burgers), Clinton (flippin burgers), Dole (flips burgers), McCain (flips burgers), Kerry (flipped burgers), Romney (flips burgers), and Barrack (flips burgers).

How effin boring is it to watch someone flip burgers when they speak? It's like they have no heart.

Italians have heart. Gary Johnson has heart. Most real people have heart and conviction. We don't flip burgers. We speak with our bodies.

Body language is 95% of what you are talking of. The guys you like, the burger flippers, they are just reciting talking points.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

I agree

But apparently it didn't matter in New Mexico, since he got reelected. All third party candidates seem to have strange ways of speaking (with the exception of Ron Paul in 88). Just an observation. :) Ralph Nader, though I like a few things he has to say, always looks like he is sleepy.

Yep

Unfortunately he can often come across like a wounded and grumpy polar bear. Was great in first Free & Equal debate, but this one not really.

Obedience to God is resistance to tyrants.

No offense to Gary

But he didn't make listening to that testament to the absolute naivete of socialism for a whopping 1 1/2 hours worth it. I tuned in when he went after her, but most of it was really boring re-hash for me. She has the same problem as Obama with her naive worship of government, she just lacks the strings... though I bet a little sweet talk could get her to change her mind on civil liberties.

Maybe it'd be more interesting if the only political spectrum I'd ever seen in my life was Romney to Obama.

He was, however quite succinct with his massive closing statement that covered a lot of topics, which made me happy. But I'm with the Mises Institute on this one: abstain, but spread the message.

Why in God's name is that socialist idiot Hartmann moderating?

He's as far from a liberty thinker as possible - even calling Stein's opening statement "brilliant."

Are you kidding? Brilliant???

How does she propose free higher education for all?

Are the professors and teachers supposed to work for free?

They should have come up with a nuetral moderator.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

We tried..we really really tried...

To find a big name neutral moderator, and it would have happened if we had held this debate in NYC or LA, but it was just about impossible to get anyone to fly into DC on such short notice with the date change due to the hurricane...and so it ended up being Thom Hartmann who lives here....lessons learned for 2016!

The good things that came out of Hartmann being the moderator? We were able to get Christina on his radio show yesterday afternoon and so a few million more people knew about the debate, and at least the guy is willing to talk about the importance of 3rd parties on the largest liberal talk radio show in the country....and it looks good for her to be back on his show in the future.... and on some of the big issues, the Fed, war, civil liberties, we do have common ground and I see us working together as a start to making Gerald Celente's prediction of a libertarian/progressive alliance a reality ....we do need allies where we can find them if we're going to beat this Demoplican beast.... I'd also add that he's down to earth and doesn't blow you off if you're not in his circle like other media personalities I've met....he's genuinely a nice guy is the impression I got..

But yes, we'll definitely hold our debates in NYC and LA in 2016!

I know you have seen this over and over.

Whenever a liberal/progressive/socialist speaks. They always try to cloak it in rights. What the heck gives these people the right to take from one to give to another?
It seems to me Stein spoke longer than Johnson. Did anyone get the minutes?
When Johnson said Baloney... He finally spoke up. It wasn't a bad thing like some have tried to slant. Why does someone have to be docile all the time.
I enjoyed the debate. Didn't change my vote.

Liberty

Obama is a Corporatist. Get it straight. With your statement about progressives you could be referring to me with respect to my blog titled: Green Libertarianism. I have been a libertarian (not a 'progressive') for 30 years and I am very well read and thought for many hours about land ownership in my own study group all throughout the 1990's. There is no contradiction between Green Libertarianism and libertarianism. Read www.anti-state.com/article.php?article_id=362 Common Property in Free Market Anarchism: A Missing Link.
Jill seems to be an honest person without the the libertarian understanding of property rights. Gary Johnson does not seem to be that far ahead of her. He seems to be learning. Ron Paul is a teacher (not perfect but deliciously ahead of most everyone!).
Maybe Jill spoke longer because she had more to say. You are treating the debate as if it were a competition. The women demonstrated some good attributes. Her program could have been more grounded in liberty. Her honesty, integrity , and enthusiasm go along way. On the surface her solutions appear to be statist but if you dig deeper you find a potential for Liberty. We just need to be supportive and give constructive criticism/help.
Believe me I am not a statist. I was a delegate to the Libertarian Party Convention in 1992! I am well read in Rothbard, Mises and Hess etc but also understand permaculture and anarchy.

Green Libertarianism and freedom

The idea that the libertarian party and 'movement' should not have a green agenda is foolish. In moving toward a freed market we can transition out of the situation we have today by deregulating the economy (easing many zoning laws and housing codes) and allowing unemployed poor people to use their benefits to transform unused government lands as long as these people used the freed resources in a sustainable manner. This would transition the whole nation toward a green future and make for the production of small company jobs in permaculture and low impact homes (these homes are cheaper to make) using local resources. Ron Paul in his transition to a libertarian society did not want to cut benefits to the poor and unemployed until after the foreign and monetary policies are changed. So too, a transition to a libertarian society should focus on a program that would move to a green society. A green society I argue is more productive and spiritually humane offering more freedom. All government regulations and infrastructure support which hurt small farmers should be reduced or eliminated. Local production of food helps the environment by reducing trucking and supports small farmers who would be encouraged to compete with big companies like Monsanto. The government building the national infrastructure subsidizes big agro Monsanto directly. Their seed is allowed to trespass on the grounds of small farmers who should not be held responsible for the contamination. The anti-libertarian court decisions which make this possible should be condemned. Of course having a garden all around your house, producing raw milk as long as it is certified through testing, having a lemonade stand and local management of the forests should be part of the libertarian program.
Another libertarian idea should be taking the money back that has been given to the corporations in the bailout. Allowing for competition in currencies is a great idea that GJ did mention.
I wonder if anyone else agrees? Green jobs are not make work jobs! They are more labor intensive however permaculture farming makes us more productive.
Another area that Gary got it right was regulating speech on the internet. Freedom of speech means freedom to speak.
Jill and Gary are wrong on GMO labeling. We can assume if it does not say non GMO it is genetically modified. Forced speech is not libertarian. If you have a product which the consumer wants then generally you let them know how the product meets their demand. We do not need government to force labeling. This is adding unnecessary regulation which is anti freedom.
Since our government is one of ever increasing Corporatism it is not unfair to address the and redress the losers due to this ever expanding partnership. It makes for the libertarians to transition away from this top down society which hurt the poor and middle class.
The green party because of the lack of libertarian involvement has given us this crde program. With some refinements and ideology Jill would be on the right path.
One last important point. Real deregulation means the Bureaucrats/technocrats are not in charge of the green houses businesses and farms.

Most biased, slanted, half truth representation of Gary Johnson

to date.

Guaranteed to make you dislike him because it was WRITTEN by people who dislike him.

This Viper person poster even wants to pull you away from what Gary Johnson actually SAID in debate - to give you some misinterpreted half-truths. Unbelievable.

Listen Jetguy. Are you out to

Listen Jetguy. Are you out to get me or something? This is what people on the DP are getting tired of. Relentless arguing that goes nowhere. I list in that article the reasons why people should vote for Gary Johnson. You have not read it. Probably because you have more time to bash people and start fights then read an article that you don't know the facts about. Gimme a break...

What is

With all this climate change talk. The climate changes and it always will. It has been changing before we were alive. And it is not caused by man. Give me a break. We have bigger problems to worry about than some stupid climate change.

Wars are the biggest problem on this planet

I bet if climate change really exists the Pentagon contributes the most to it.
