Who Is Gary Johnson? The Good And The Bad

I recently put up a post asking people to add links on things they know about Gary Johnson. Good or bad, that would shed some light on where he really stands on the issues. I got some great responses from users including Illusi0nz, GBAmerica and compromise.

We have seen many scattered posts stating a few good things about Gary and a few bad things and I wanted to get some of the facts all gathered together so that we could all see where he really stands and decide if we support him based on the facts.

I will first list his positions on certain issues that contradict Ron Paul.

Abortion: Ron Paul says, "Unless we resolve this and understand that life is precious and we must protect life, we can’t protect liberty."

Q: You have unorthodox takes, for a member of the GOP, on abortion.

A: I support women's rights to choose up until viability of the fetus. I've supported the notion of parental notification. I've supported counseling and I've supported the notion that public funds not be used for abortions. But I don't want for a second to pretend that I have a better idea of how a woman should choose when it comes to this situation. Fundamentally this is a choice that a woman should have.

Foreign Policy:

Johnson said that while he wants to end the war in Afghanistan, that doesn’t mean he would necessarily stop drone attacks against terrorists in Pakistan or Yemen, even though he believes they create more enemies than they kill.

“I would want leave all options on the table,” Johnson said.

One intervention Johnson said he supports is the U.S. mission to help capture Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army, which Johnson believes is arguably the “worst terrorist” group in the world.

“Based on what I know, yes,” Johnson said, indicating his support for the mission to capture Kony.

Federal Reserve:

While Gary Johnson says he is for auditing the Federal Reserve he is not totally for abolishing it.

Q: What is your position on the Fed and the gold standard?

A: The Federal Reserve deserves full responsibility for the housing bubble and as well deserves credit for mitigating the bust. Overriding that, the dollar is now worth a nickel. I understand the arguments for a free market in money and I support them. I shy away from the phrase “regulate the Fed” because I do not want Barney Frank deciding monetary policy. I wouldn’t say the Fed needs to be abolished. I understand the argument for a gold standard, though. The US government should be pursuing a strong dollar policy, which the Fed hasn’t done.

"We own the Federal Reserve. There is this misconception that the Federal Reserve is some private entity. But if I might give an analogy here, we - U.S. taxpayers - own all the stock in the federal reserve." -Gary Johnson

Guantanamo Bay:

Most of us already know about this one...

Gary Johnson says. "I will not close Gitmo..."

Gay Marriage:

Ron Paul wants the Federal Government completely out of marriage while Gary Johnson wants gay marriage protected on the Federal level.

- Many feel that with all the contradictions listed above, he is just another candidate who will follow what he is pressured to do in Washington and does not deserve our vote.

- Others argue that we should not support Gary because Ron Paul dedicated most of his life trying to take over the GOP from within and we would be reversing everything he did if we suddenly all joined the libertarian party.

These are just a few of the common arguments that are used to oppose voting for him.

And now for some reasons to vote for Gary Johnson...

I think we all can agree he lines up the closest with Ron Paul's philosophy in general compared to Mitt Romney and Obama. Just look at there web-sites.

For some logical arguments to vote Gary Johnson...

- We need the Libertarian Party to receive over 5% of the vote so that future candidates in the LP will have equal ballot access and receive Federal funding.

- It will be a protest vote against the two-party system.

- Ron Paul said “I think he’s wonderful, and I think he’s doing a good job and people should look at him and every individual should make up his own mind,”

- And finally I think some people are more libertarian and find some of Johnson's views more lined up with there own.

I have tried to come across as neutral and please say in the comments if there is anything that you think I am portraying unfairly. I knew I couldn't of counted everything but I hope this has shed some more light on Gary Johnson's views and policies. I again want to thank Illusi0nz, GBAmerica and compromise for there help in gathering these links.

Thanks for reading and I hope this has helped make up anyone's mind who hasn't decided yet.

Gary Johnson believes the global warming hoax

Infowars interview with Gary Johnson

Question to GJ from reporter: "Do you believe in Global Warming?"

Gary Johnson's answer: "I accept that it's man caused . . we are demanding less carbon emission, we want less carbon in the air . . For coal to be competitive they're going to have to scrub their coal more that's something the coal industry is going to have to do, we are opting as consumers to have the cleanest energy we can have. We'll find an alternative to oil that will stop us from using it."

The ice cores show that a rise in CO2 is always preceded by a rise in temperature by hundreds of years. The ocean outgases CO2 when temperature rises as the result of Sun cycles. There is no proof that an increase in the trace gas CO2 causes significant warming, CO2 rises as a result of warming, it doesn't cause it. Another pack of lies from our elite masters.

So this is really the most

So this is really the most important issue to you this election. Are you kidding me?

and quit spinning.
It proves GJ is not capable of making a decision because he is not studied on this topic and has no business giving his 2cents with out doing research on the issue.
Ron Paul is skeptical because he hears good arguments from both sides but has no opinion as of yet. He needs to do more research and says the global cooling/warming argument has been going on for decades and decades.
GJ jumps on the train at will with no research or explanation why he holds his position.
Gvt officials such as they all are are not capable of determining this issue.

It is not "one" issue, but a close look at how gairie comes to a conclusion over "an" issue, and that is very important.
learning. no reason, no reasearch given why gairie holds a position, he just DOES!

"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!

Rand Paul 2016

this forum topic is about listing GJ's positions. Not, "everybody share their #1 concern". They are adding to the list.

Chill bro! :)

~wobbles but doesn't fall down~

This is About 2016, Congress, and Beyond

We need to change the direction the wind is blowing. We need the wind to shift in the libertarian direction. There is only one better way to show that change than having Gary Johnson cost one of the dominant-party candidates the election, and that is to have him cost both of them the election.

It helps if Ron Paul supporters cost Romney the election by writing Rom Paul in, but that would probably not convince the Democrats they need to change, because they'll see it as a Republican weakness, not libertarian strength.

Since it's Congress who needs to stand up to the President and defend us, and Democrats are numerous there, it would be a shame if they didn't get the message. They know that Libertarian candidates and Gary Johnson are taking votes from them, so that vote total has meaning.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

Your welcome

But apparently that Doug Turner, according to a poster on the thread you posted this thread in which linked me here, is GJ's campaign adviser, who was a member of the CFR

all that rheotorics are him being invovled in the CFR, never did I think it was true!

"Truth is Treason in an Empire that lies" - Ron Paul

Educate the masses, and win in the end.

Other way around

He was the campaign advisor fourteen years ago. Then seven years*after* leaving GJ's staff, Turner accepted CFR fellowship money to go spend a couple of years in Japan.

How desperate do the anti-GJ people have to be to try to spin this into a CFR connection for GJ?

Read the entire post, and I don't think you should thumb yourself up
