WA State CD 7 Liberty Candidate Ron Bemis: Imagine Jim McDermott RetiredSubmitted by blonduxo on Tue, 11/06/2012 - 16:57
Blacked out by the Seattle Times candidate Ron Bemis earned the first ever endorsement by Mr. Blue Republican himself Robin Koerner, see http://www.bluerepublican.org/tag/ron-bemis/ and touted here on DP and on Huffington Post.
Ron is an accomplished attorney who at age 61 wants to devote the last third of his life to public service, read more about him here: http://www.ronbemisforcongress.org/Issues.html and check out the rest of his website.
Ron got into the race to retire Jim McDermott shortly before the deadline for filing. I first heard him at the WA State Convention where I was selected one of three CD-7 National Delegates to the Convention in Tampa in support of Dr. Paul. When I heard him speak, and FYI Kirby Wilbur, WSRP Chairman barely allowed him the privilege, I knew instantly I would work on his campaign because he is ANOTHER RON I LIKE.
The Seattle Times has featured him exactly one time with his name in the headline see here: http://seattletimes.com/html/edcetera/2019467879_ron_bemis_t... This was not in print but an online blog after one member of the Editorial Board had lunch with him. They have mentioned him only three times in almost 6 months.
Not given the courtesy of an extended interview by the full Editorial Board due to the fact they advised they would not make any endorsement in the CD-7 race-that in their home district and readership-even though they interviewed over 170 candidates by their own admission, they did make an endorsement, see here: http://seattletimes.com/html/editorials/2019534611_editendor...
In addition to the limited print media coverage, Ron was hindered from writing here on DP as new registrants were not allowed at this time, MOD replied to inquiry that there were too many spanners. He has wanted to speak to you in his own voice like the other BR-endorsed candidates but has not been able to do so. At this late stage, please google his name, tweet about him, like him on FB and if you live in CD 7 vote for him. Of course donations are still accepted. He spent exactly one dollar per vote in the primary and beat the third place challenger in the top two race who outspent him 15-1 for the 10,000 votes he received.
Ron has had some other limited media exposure (mostly on a blog chuckslowe.com) and only one appearance with McDermott where they were broadcast together on the radio, see
Ron demolished him on air.
Of course, McDermott has refused to debate him or expose himself to any opportunity for the voters to hold him accountable, 30% which are new to CD-7 due to redistricting. See http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20121013/NEWS01/710139965 and http://www.ballardnewstribune.com/2012/10/26/opinion/21st-ce...
And this will surprise you: McDermott refused to debate him and chose rather to debate Michael Medved. The Student Freedom Project under the auspices and sponsorship of the Freedom Foundation and The Leadership Institute advertised the event thus: “Even if you’re interested in this election, it’s hard to find time to get all the information you need in order to cast an informed vote. And it’s especially difficult for college students who are juggling exams, work, and a social life. So we’re bringing the information to you!” But they had to backtrack from that and changed the language to say: “Join the Student Freedom Project at UW for a lively discussion about issues that will directly affect college students and recent graduates. We’ll ask the tough questions about taxing the rich, the cost of college, and creating jobs.”
Shocking and offensive is what came to mind in the debate when McDermott admitted that he goes into the transit tunnel so he can be reminded how the "ordinary citizens" have to use the bus system, that the role of government is to protect the citizens from the excesses of free enterprise, and how the government creates jobs. How “entitled”, how misguided, and how far from the truth. The government only creates debt, not jobs and not wealth. Free enterprise does that.

Ron has had precious few opportunities to get his message out there via the media but please see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHNBsFwWUbA&feature=plcp and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSOqOXk8iZI&feature=plcp
Great interview on John Carlson's KVI am 570 show yesterday.Unfortunately it was not posted on their website.
Several of us RPers have been helping out in the campaign. We still have a little more work to do with him and in the meantime he would sure welcome and respect your support in whatever form you can offer.
