Winners & Losers: GOP in Deep Trouble, Ron Paul Looking Good

Romney lost today to a guy who is overseeing a horrible economy, prosecuting unpopular wars, and who can barely string 5 words together without a teleprompter. This was the best the Republican Party can do. Not only are the Republicans evil, they're evil and contemptible losers, which is far worse.

The biggest losers tonight are of course people who value peace and freedom, but we would have also lost if Romney won. The GOP is right up there in the loser category, however. The GOP lost seats in the Senate, and did little to improve its position in the House. It has served up two ridiculously bad nominees in a row, claiming "electability" and then going down in flames.

Rand Paul certainly came out of this looking very bad as well. He fell in line behind the party masters, banking on some advantage to be gained through an endorsement of Romney. He ended up just looking politically unsavvy and unprincipled. There is little to be gained either, from playing ball with a Party that as inept as the GOP at this point.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility that the GOP may actually show sign of disintegration in the next several years. The GOP has ceased to present any sort of actual alternative, and worse yet, it can't run a winning candidate. Once that happens, the coalition that makes up your political party will begin to fall apart.

The Ron Paul movement is a big winner here. The GOP told the libertarians in the party to get lost, and the GOP paid for it. Interestingly, both Iowa and Nevada, where Ron Paul supporters gained control of the state party, both went to Obama after the Romney campaign actively fought to disenfranchise Ron Paul supporters. I guess the GOP got what it wanted there.

I guess no one can read the amendments

Yes, the original intent was natural born citizens. But guess what? the 14th amendment says anyone born in the United States is a US citizen. The amendment changed the original intent of the founders. Just like the 16th amendment changed the original intent. Just like the 17th amendment of direct elections changed the original intent. So stop with the natural born citizen has to be two parents. That's not the case anymore and hasn't since the late 1860s.

No, I shall NOT stop with

No, I shall NOT stop with original definition of natural born citizen as requiring BOTH parents to be born in one of the states of the union. Since the 14th amendment was only passed through coercion, I say burn it and the 13th .... and the 16th.... and the 17th .... and the 19th .... In fact we need governors who will basically tell the federal government to stick it, arm its citizens, and IGNORE ALL amendments to the US Constitution other than the FIRST twelve.

Amazingly, I haven't been accused of being a racist yet because I want the 13th amendment stricken as well. Naturally, if I were governor, I'd push to amend the STATE constitution to prohibit slavery.

Stop for a minute

Marco Rubio is not a natural born citizen, therefore he can't run for the Vice Presidency. Neither of his parents were American citizens when he was born. Bobby Jindal is not a natural born citizen either, both his parents were in the United States on green cards from India when he was born in Baton Rouge.

The democrats ran Obama who is not a natural born citizen, it's no better when the Republicans run candidates who are not natural born citizens. Rubio's and Jindal's credentials are even worse than Obama. At least one of Obama's parents was a citizen (which still doesn't make Obama a natural born citizen).

Rand's endorsement of Romney...

I figure Rand was trying to play "Good cop bad cop" with the GOP establishment, with the neocons as the crooks, him as the "good" cop, and his dad as the "bad". Then, if Romney had won, he'd have been able to push them into adopting many of the liberty platforms in order to placate us and try to suck us back in. This might have produced substantial progress, giving him the leverage to try for more and to snowball this into the conversion of the GOP that we've been striving for.

The downside, of course, is that integrity is one of Ron's major selling points. By appearing, to the Neocons, to be willing to compromise, he appears to us as less than a paragon, as well.

With the GOP loss, of course, he doesn't get the advantage of having pull with the people in the driver's seat. But up until election night it wasn't obvious that Romney would lose. So he was our hedge.

Now he is still in a position to serve as a spokesman for liberty issues in the Senate and continue to promote these issues within the twitching wreck of the GOP. As the Republicans try to rebuild he can push for them to change for the better - and use the recent debacle as a very strong argument for "doing it right this time".

If Romney had won the perception within the GOP would have been that they could get away with shafting the liberty-minded grass roots. The rules changes making the GOP into a self-perpetuating clique would have stayed in place, the party would have continued to alienate their potential recruits, and the rot would have progressed. With the substantial loss there will be a restructuring, and one way it COULD go is the one we tried for this time around. Rand could be a significant driver of that change. Or it could go the other way, with the GOP becoming nothing but Neocons and dwindling into insignificance (JUST like the Whigs did, leading to the GOP's graduation to the big leagues).

Fortunately, we don't have to put all our eggs in any one basket. We can now assume the GOP is dead and build elsewhere, unless it proves otherwise by coming begging to us and gives us real power in the reconstruction of the party.

Meanwhile, if Rand gets the GOP nomination for Prez, I don't care if he's not a clone of his father. He's a HELL of a lot better than any of the Ds OR any of the Neocons. If he only gets us 80% of our agenda in four years, that's far better than letting some tweedle-dumber take us farther down the road to totalitarianism.

Rand Paul 2016

This the best post of the day and maybe the week on the Daily Paul.com I cannot convince everyone to support Rand Paul in 2016 now or ever. Of those activists who support Ron Paul need to understand that Rand Paul has the greatest opportunity in our lifetime to win the Republican nomination and the Presidency. I certainly realize the founder of the Dailypaul.com does not support a Rand Paul candidacy. You can to realize that the liberty movement as a voting bloc is about two million individuals and maybe around twenty million of folks who vote and do not vote. A little less than twenty million voted in the 2012 Republican Primary and over 118 million people voted in the general election. Why do we not realize the liberty movement is a minority in the United
States of America?

if the freedom movement

can't come up with anyone better (johnson is far better IMO) than rand it's as sunk as the GOP, and why not ron paul in 2016?

If you think we can build

If you think we can build elsewhere, it will a bit like a little kid building a sand castle while the adults are over working on building multi-billion dollar developments, high-rises, etc. It's a joke. This is our BEST chance to reform the GOP. They got 49 MILLION VOTES. They are far from "dead", they must LIVE to keep up the charade. But, we can continue to SURGE if we FOCUS NOW. We must FOCUS and SURGE and I would argue its the time to phone bank to call EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM and say that the party is CHANGING and we will only re-elect you NEXT TIME if you follow RAND NOW. 2 years of dialing and calling these whackos, and they will get the message. So we have to start NOW.

One Correction

The Republican Party Presidential slate received less than 59 million votes. John McCain received over 59 million votes and George W Bush received over 62.5 million voters in 2004. So, if the liberty movement would get behind Rand Paul with Marco Rubio as a Vice Presidential possibility. Rand Paul and Marco Rubio need to become very close friends between today and 2015.

I would love to believe that Rand will be the R nominee in 2016

Would love even more to believe that if he won, he would enact liberation from federal tyranny.

Unfortunately I am virtually ready to bet that the Republican ticket 2016 will be: Jeb Bush/ Marco Rubio.

In fact if I can find anyone to take that bet, I will.

Obedience to God is resistance to tyrants.

I love Jeb Bush and Marco

I love Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio!! Oh wait... Why did I just say that? I have no idea who they are...

Maybe I've been watching too much Fox News.

an idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government

Maybe you should check them

Maybe you should check them out, I will give you a hint -- three neocons that are main stream GOPers. If you support the establishment GOP then they all three will fill the bill.

This is a joke referring to

This is a joke referring to the fact that the only reason "so many people in the republican party like Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush" is because Fox news repeatedly says that "so many people in the republican party like Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush."

Reminds me of the movies where they dope someone up on physcotropic drugs and then place earphones on their head and play the same message over and over... Planting thoughts or memories into their head that weren't their own.

In this case, planting the thought: "I Love Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush!"

God are some of you people

God are some of you people ignorant. The GOP was just following the grand plan by BTPTB. The design was never to win, just RP out of the mix. Our president and Congress is decided for us. Why do you think Romney was the GOP nominee? The rest of the jokers in the primary were running interference for Mittens.

Lee Rockwell just doesn't get it.

We can't all become hermits. Rockwell doesn't believe people should vote...EVER! He said so on RT. I'm willing to believe he didn't even vote for Ron Paul. Rand Paul has actually come out of this pretty darn good. The GOP is desperate for someone who can win and 2016 has Rand Paul's name all over it.

Lew Rockwell...

...has done much for the libertarian cause. However, he is dead wrong about avoiding political action. Actually, considering his past involvement in politics, I really don't know where he gets these ideas. But anyway, so be it, let him do what he does best (serious education), and ignore his political advice.

For anyone who doesn't know, Lew's baby is www.mises.org

The very best resource out there for those trying to educate themselves on free market economics and political science. It's all free, and very high quality stuff, not some crappy blog.

rockwell has a point

imagine if no one voted.

Then the incumbent votes for

Then the incumbent votes for himself and wins 1-0 every time.

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for Thomas Jefferson. A vote for Rand Paul is a vote for James Madison.

Freedom wins!!!! Do everyone a huge favor please

It seems you have confused a few folks on here. Next time you post could you please put the authors name down to give them credit. I know you linked to the original but some people are too lazy to click the link and they just assume Lew Rockwell wrote this because the link goes to his site.

I really don't care where you post it, but I feel like it makes the most sense to put it on top of the quote as sort of an introduction.

Just kidding I am not Ryan W. McMaken and I really am just making a simple request on format to help others who for some reason have an aversion for Lew Rockwell. Not a huge deal just a nice thing to do thats all.

I did it but moderator changed the title from the time I posted it.

the only solution to fix this

the only solution to fix this country in 2016 is to write in ron paul, obviously.

I hope that's a joke...

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

It is no joke. Remember,

It is no joke. Remember, according to everyone on here, we're not allowed to vote for anyone who we can't agree with 100% of the time...

Stop being so dramatic!

When you read that statement in the appropriate context, it is quite clear that he is referring to the republican establishment and the insiders thereof. The deceptive tactics and the collaboration between the republican establishment and the mainstream media to protect corporate interests by blacking-out certain candidates and promoting others... IS EVIL!

an idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government

I really think this is the right time

for a real attempt at a new party to replace the Republicans.

I mean, the soil is rich etc.

The key is to restart the original tea party coalition to fight republicans and democrats. The 'anyone but Obama' failed miserably and the Tea Party will NOT do a darn thing about debt limits.

But that original coalition of tea partiers, before the 'Tea Party', has no excuse but to now organize.

We were torn apart by internal strife because we're passionate and from diverse backgrounds.

But we ALL want to fight the federal beast and roll it back. I think there's a possibility to organize around that alone.

Gotta Love How Lew Has A Propensity To Group People....

"Republicans are evil". Really? I know, and have known, many people who identify themselves as Republicans and are no more evil than any other person. You see that grouping of people by Lew has showed up before. Anyone here remember those newsletters?

Lew didn't write Republicans are evil,

the author of the article he posted wrote that.

Republicans Are Not Evil

Disclaimer: I agree with much of the post. I think Obama's worse than Romney (a little bit), but I am very glad he lost as I think it's what's best for the liberty movement. I was previously a big Republican advocate and voter (through the last mid-term elections). I wrote in Ron Paul yesterday and rooted for Obama for the reason stated.

//BEGIN RANT

I think 'evil' is the wrong word in reference to the Republicans. That sounds like you're saying Republican people are evil. They're not by-in-large, and we shouldn't talk like that. My parents are Republicans, and they are some of the best people I know. Many of us were also Republicans. I myself supported Bush and McCain (before them I was too young to get it). I only came to the R3VOLUTION about a year and a half ago. I was not evil. Just because a person disagrees with us doesn't mean they are evil. Satan is evil. Nero was evil. Hitler was evil, but many of his supporters were just misled and confused. Perhaps the GOP is evil in many ways, but Republicans themselves? No.

Apart from that just not being true, from a practical standpoint Republicans also think/know they are not evil. Saying so is just offensive and invalidates whatever else we might have to say. We look like crazies - and while many have that perception because of how our issues are portrayed by the media, we are anything but crazy. Well, most of us. :) We need not support that view with inflamed mischaracterizations of the very people we need to reach.

Notice how Ron Paul behaves toward those he disagrees with. He will call their issues out, but I know he is respected by many on both sides. He does not deride the character of others, he simply pursues and proclaims the truth as best he can. Let us follow his lead in this and choose our words wisely.

//END RANT

I was also gonna say something in Rand's defense even though I don't like that he endorsed Romney either, but I'll just keep it focused on the very important point above.

"For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God."
(1 Peter 2:15-16)

Define your terms please.

Most folks who describe themselves as "Republicans" are indeed evil people. Nearly everyone who voted for Romney yesterday is an evil person for they knew he was a murderous, lying flip-flopping POS and voted for him anyway. The problem is that the GOP is filled with many fake Republicans or what I call "democrat-lites." They are "team players" who only care if a person with an "R" by their name wins and couldn't care less about the principles of liberty or justice and have contempt for the US constitution. The REAL Republicans are the Ron Paul faction and they were treated so poorly by the rank and file democrat-lites that most either voted for Gary Johnson, wrote in Ron Paul’s name or didn’t vote. Good, either the GOP purges itself of the neocon democrat-lite fake Republicans or else it goes the way of the Whig Party.
