Non automobile Henry Ford type builder WantedSubmitted by Ira Freeman on Wed, 11/07/2012 - 11:54
I'm looking for a windmill head, or an old wood drag saw. Anyone here from Kansas or the Northwest that can help me?
I'm in Arizona and I have a hobby that has morphed into a business. I own a mining claim and I go dig up rocks and cut them into "slabs" and sell those slabs to other rockhounds and jewelers from around the world. I've been doing this 7 years now and I keep growing and getting deeper into the industry.
What's happened in the past few years is people come to me with large collections of rocks, some of these collections have LARGE rocks. Now, a large rock is useless to me unless it is cut into slabs. And my biggest rock saw right now is a 30 incher, much too small for some of the rocks I come across.
So what I am looking for is someone with a mechanical mind who can help me make a "Drag Saw" this is a large flat blade of steel with diamonds impregnated on the cutting edge, and water dripped in from the top to act as a lubricant, to keep the diamonds from heating up and falling off.
It's a simple and ancient technology but I am not the guy to build this from scratch. There are samples of these Drag saws on the internet, but I need to hook up with someone who can help me build it. I can weld. I have all of the tools. And if I can build these cheap enough I can market these to the lapidary hobbyist niche.
Is there anyone here in the DP that can do this, or knows of someone who can do this???
