Doug Wead: Rand Paul 2016

For Republicans, there is a silver lining to the re-election of Barack Obama. The door is now open for real change in 2016. The recently adopted Romney Rules at the RNC, which would have locked out any true democratic participation and guaranteed eight more years of GOP establishment, top-down, Brahman-style, domination, are now moot. The gate is open...

So if you were trying to 'save' me, it didn't work.

That's what it means. It means there was a failure to communicate.

And it means if you are serious about encouraging people to support your boy Rand in 2016, then you'll need to work on those skills. Otherwise you'll end up doing more harm than good, like many of the erstwhile Johnson 'supporters' on here who were so obnoxious, that they ended up turning people off.

Thats what it means.

Over and out.

He's the man.

How about rational defeatism

I too have found that while there are always new believers that most of those who have been through two campaigns with Ron Paul are disillusioned with the whole political process and in the belief that the answers lie there. I believe Ron Paul was given a fair shot this time around, he was heard and listened to, and 90% of the GOP rejected him. It wasn't poor campaigning, it wasn't cheating by the GOP, it wasn't Jesse Benton. All of these things played a part but the cold hard fact is that 97% of the people in the US do not accept the libertarian message. Before we can change politics, we have to change that, otherwise we are just tilting at windmills. Spending money, time and energy on politics or the GOP is, well, a quixotic quest.

Free and Brave
or Cradle to Grave
You can't have both

As Dr. Paul has said and demonstrated...

...political action is the best way to change people's minds and spread the message.

I would like to personally say that your site and those on it helped me to have hope for Americas future. Though you may feel it was Thankless, I want you to know that I do thank you for all youv'e done with the Daily Paul. One man can change things you helped change alot of minds just by giving us a resource to express and communicate with. You did alot of Good, and I'm sure it will continue to get people to Think. Whatever you do you have my humble thank you.

Thank you very much for the kind words

It does mean a lot to me.

And I know that one person can do a lot, and change a lot of people's minds. So I take this very seriously, it is kind of a burden really. I'm not the type to go telling people what to do and think. It isn't my style. All I can do is share my own thoughts, feelings and intended actions.

There is a lot of emotionalism today. Politics itself is filled with emotionalism. Emotions aren't always the most helpful thing in determining the proper course of action. Talking about 2016 is premature, in my opinion. Look at poor Tim Pawlenty - he was in so early, and worked so hard only to get knocked out quit after Iowa.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but thank you again for the thoughts, the thanks and the encouraging words.

Michael

He's the man.

Can't change others...

I've noticed how a jolt to society such as the aftermath of a hurricane can suddenly make others who think preparedness is kooky have a new level of respect for it. I think as more hurricanes, whether natural, financial, military, social, etc. hit our shores, with increasing frequency and intensity, those jolts will suddenly make people more and more receptive to Liberty, as they realize dependency on the system won't keep them safe.

Even though our efforts might seem futile in supporting this candidate or that candidate, you never know when a sudden watershed moment will occur to cause a new great awakening. If we don't try to keep supporting candidates with all we can muster, then will we be ready to respond when that moment occurs? Or will it just naturally happen when the time is right?

If this site is taken over by the Randians

know that a huge portion of members here will leave. The Randians should just start their own website. I know running this site is a headache to you, Michael. But please don't go...this site is perfect the way it is and may be irreplaceable. We need the DP to keep in touch with eachother, and as an organizational/educational resource.

Quite a few have left when this site became

anti-Rand and conspiracy filled. So dont even start to pull this crap when this is a time needed for unity. If the Ron loyalists want to throw a tantrum and want to believe a 80 year old Ron would win a presidential election, fine. I love Ron, but he knows what is best for this country, which is why he has positioned his son for a formidable campaign. Rand has very widespread appeal, while still keeping his 'Paul' roots.

To quite the loyalists here, if you arent with us....youre against us.

Correct

...there was an exodus around the time the anti-Benton, anti-Rand, and even anti-Ron conspiracies starting taking root. And, not coincidentally, that happened around the time (actually on the very same day - remember it well) that the campaign came out and acknowledged that victory was impossible given the delegate math. Some people couldn't believe that was true, and started inventing excuses and finding scapegoats.

Anyway, I'm confident that the vast majority of Paulites have more sense than that, and will support Rand when the time comes. The remainder will effectively exit the liberty movement and be reabsorbed into the Alex Jones orbit, or wherever else they came from.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

you do not speak for me. I

you do not speak for me. I would gladly put my support behind Rand 100%. I am not a Randian either.

I don't pretend to speak for anyone but myself

Many others have spoken for themselves and posted that they'll never support Rand. That anyone would support him after he endorsed and campaigned for the cheater who stole the nominaton from his own father is pretty sad. "Randian" is much too kind.

Thanks Michael....

You have been a true hero to our movement and your sincere love of liberty and tireless work ethic will always be an inspiration. If anyone deserves to take a break or even retire from the fight you have certainly earned that right.

However, I can't help but believe that you have misread the situation. Obama was NEVER the sincere idealist that he pretended to be. And Rand will NEVER be the jaded and cynical politician that his critics already believe he has become. Not everything needs to devolve into politics as usual. And things didn't end up the way they are by accident.

I can't prove any of those statements. But they all seem patently obvious... to me.

I wish that you could have the faith and optimism that I feel for the Republican strategy in general and leaders like Rand Paul in particular, but I know that some things just can't be communicated that simply.

I guess all I can say is, "Watch". And I hope you enjoy seeing some victories.

The Virtual Conspiracy

Its called the "Daily Paul"

Is Rand RP's son or not?

Come 2016, if we still have a chance against this tidal wave of leftism, we will have the support and funding from groups like FreedomWorks, AFP, etc. They have been instrumental in getting liberty candidates elected. If we still have a GOP in a few years, it will not be the same. The base and the tea party is pissssssed with the moderate hierarchy. Like it or not, but Rand or whomever will be our last chance at righting this socialist ship. I will not go down in defeat. The left wing in this country will not defeat us! Huzzah comrades, Huzzah!!

Rand may be Ron's son, but

Rand may be Ron's son, but Dr. No, Jr. he ain't...

and....

This thread will never post to the front page.
You might ask yourself why.
Is it 'just' to hide the dirty laundry?
Nope.
Michael has made his position clear:
Move this stuff to the DailyRand
with his blessings (and wisdom).

Indeed....

...I was pretty appalled to read that, posted my response there.

What is the DP supposed to be if not a forum for discussion of current liberty candidates such as Rand? If he's serious, and doesn't change his mind, we may indeed have to create a new website, or find another existing one.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

maybe he should sell it

He doesn't seem to want it anymore.

If so...

...I wonder if we could form an LLC to buy it? Many people could chip in just a tiny amount and get partial ownership, and share the management responsibilities. I hope that's premature talk though, I hope Michael is just in a bit of an existential funk.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

well, that was disturbing to read

sounds like the owner of one of the best places on the internet is totally disillusioned with politics.

doesn't surprise me, given turn of events.

the always excellent

Why are the new RNC top-down

Why are the new RNC top-down rules moot? I thought they passed and that the whole point of them was that they apply the next cycle.

I was wondering that too...

...maybe they only go into effect if the nominee wins? Dunno..

Any truth to the claim?

I also was wondering where that 'pronouncement' came from!

"The recently adopted Romney Rules at the RNC, which would have locked out any true democratic participation and guaranteed eight more years of GOP establishment, top-down, Brahman-style, domination, are now moot."

No source? No one on Doug's page posed the question to him (I'm not on FB etc - which is required to post a comment on his blog).

Any truth to the claim?

I was banned last night by

I was banned last night by the "Ohio for Ron Paul" group, only because I made a comment on their 'Rand' posting that I probably wouldn't support a Rand Paul 2016 candidacy. I'm through with the GOP/RNC.

Be thankful!

If there's anything I learned

If there's anything I learned from Ron Paul it was this:

You can only make a strong impact by joining one of the 2 parties. As a 3rd party you are useless and Ron Paul experienced that first hand.
Ron Paul proved that we can make a huge change by staying in the GOP and taking it over!
Iowa, Maine, NV, and other states are proof of Ron Paul's change. Look for huge change to come out of those states in terms of their local legislatures, Congressmen, and governors!

Leaving the GOP leaves us in a meaningless place. Stay in the GOP and take local leadership positions in the party! Take it over from the bottom up : )

NO. HELL NO. RON PAUL R[3]VOLUTION & The Democrats Now!

NO. HELL NO. RON PAUL R[3]VOLUTION & The Democrats Now!

The Democrats would have NEVER treated us like These Nazi Neo-Cons.

We will go with THE WINNERS, not the LOSERS who treated Our President, Us and Our Delegates like trash. NEVER AGAIN.

Wisdom Strategies

The Dems would've treated us nice, eh?

You mean the same Dems who call RP and his supporters White supremacists and "fascists" at nearly every opportunity?

You mean the same Dems who somehow manage to be even more ignorant of monetary policy than the average Repub?

You mean the same Dems who turn around and lump people into increasingly arbitrary groups, solely to create division and group entitlements?

You mean the same Dems who, on average, think things such as education and healthcare should be "free"?'

You mean the same Dems who commit voter fraud every bit as often as the GOP?

THOSE Dems?!

I'll put it this way: you know all that hatred you feel for the GOP? That's how 99% of Dems feel about RP and his supporters. At least with mainstream GOPers there was a little common ground, with Dems there is the drug issue and very little else (most are only anti-war when it's "hip" to be anti-war).

You say F the R's, why not F both?

A signature used to be here!

Yeah,,,, this is not going to work.

Rand needs to come rally the support of the people who made his father a success. The fact that he is alienating us ought to worry him, instead there seems to be a "we don't need THEM" vibe, which is only going to widen the chasm. If Rand wants to make a real run at 2016, he needs to be consolidating the liberty movement, not discarding entire factions of it, and his supporters need to do the same.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.
