Use the free market to fight against GMO products! (Updated)

There is an app that you can use to help you find products that are non-GMO, at NonGMOProject.org. I am sure that many here have already heard about it and probably already use it, but I thought it was appropriate to post here now, especially considering Prop 37 in California failed.

In addition to mentioning the app, which is called the "Non-GMO Project," I will list below some products that I found that were Non-GMO. Lets focus on puchasing these items, fighting Monsanto and putting them out of business.

SPREAD THE WORD! The list below are also shown in the app "Non-GMO Project." If others want to list Non-GMO products that aren't listed, please do so , so we can all know what to shop for.

1) Amy's Kitchen
2) Annie's
3) Arrowhead Mills
4) Alter Eco
5) Attune Foods
6) Barney Butter
7) Blue Diamond
8) Brad's Leafy Kale, Raw Chips, and Raw Crackers
9) Cape Cod Select
10) Central Market Organics
11) Choice Organic Teas
12) Country Choice Organic
13) Dave's Gourmet
14) Eden
15) Farmer's Market

For a MUCH larger list of Non-GMO products, visit http://www.nongmoproject.org/

-Update-
Call every grocery store around you and tell them to sale products form this list, and go into the grocery stores (Kroger, Albertson's and Target)and purchase what Non-GMO products that they do have. Show them these products can and will sale for them. My friends, family and I have all started doing this months ago, and my local Ralph's has started purchasing more of these items. Make a difference!

Important to advocate the free market way

I support the Non-GMO Project idea. By creating the non-GMO brand, the project empowers consumers without unnecessarily burdening fixed-income households or the elderly with price increases that regulation costs tend to lead. Also, the replacing of a Monsanto-led FDA with a California-based bureaucracy only shifts accountability temporarily from one government body to another; who's to say this new font of power would not entice Monsanto to infiltrate and create favorable treatment for itself somehow through California regulators?

Indeed, evidence of success can be found: rBST milk has been quarantined by the education and promotion of companies that benefit from offering non-rBST products like Vermont's finest Ben and Jerry. Empower the consumers but don't compel their suppliers!

My fear is that the Non-GMO project website does favor government mandates in regards to GMO labeling; if another Prop 37 were to achieve critical mass, the effort to use market pressure for change in behavior would be abandoned in favor for government managed compliance. There is a better way!

The problem is, Monsanto gets laws passed

to protect their interests. There plan is to keep any reference to GMO's off labels voluntary or involuntary. This way the GMO's can be called organic, since the FDA says they see no difference.

There is also a revolving door from Monsanto's Board of directors and their lawyer firm to the FDA and EPA. EPA and FDA are just puppets for Monsanto and big Agribusiness.

The EPA has known for years that GMO crops were deadly to Honeybees in the way they are presently grown.

http://www.dailypaul.com/262447/wikileaks-says-epa-is-a-buzz...

They just figure when the problem gets bad enough they will be able to fix it with their Frankenstein style way of doing business.

http://www.monsanto.com/newsviews/Pages/the-buzz-on-beologic...

But I would ask you if my gene Manipulated bees don't die anymore from the pesticides in the nectar and pollen would you eat it?

This is natures way of protecting us, the bees die off and polluted honey is not passed on to us humans.

Monsanto To the rescue with different ways to get their poison on your plate, and increase their profits. I am sure I would pay royalties to Monsanto or be sued out of business if I didn't comply.

Good, Next step, call these companies and thank them

for not using GMO's in their food and letting you know this by using the non-GMO project label. Then call/email other foods that do not have the non-GMO project label and ask if they use GMOs. If they say no, ask them to start to use this label so you can know for sure. If they say yes (highly unlikely) or more likely they don't know, tell them you will not be buying their product untill they can verify it.

also find more product listings and info here: www.responsibletechnology.org/buy-non-gmo

Thanks for the link. I will

Thanks for the link. I will definitely be buying some of the products listed.

Yeah

A good way to counter GMO is to strenghten demand for organic. If GMO is truly inferior, then the market will crush it.

Now this is a good approach without government!!

I'm happy to see that people are proposing ways to make their choices without having to use the government to help them out. There is nothing worse than calling on the devil for help; ideally the government wouldn't be the devil but that is what it is to me now days. The idea of proposition 37 which would use government force to control markets is completely wrong and no liberty minded individual should be promoting such an activity. Remember that no one is forcing you to purchase GMO products, it is your choice and your choice only. There are already laws that forbid false advertisement, so if a company adds Organic to their label, I think (not positive) that it includes the meaning of being non-GMO.

Another great market solution to this problem, and anyone feel free to start this company up, would be to have an independent company test or verify that foods are non-GMO. If this company is ever incorrect, it will tarnish their image and open up the market for other companies. So this would keep the influence of companies such as Monsanto from putting pressure on them. Something to think about.

Buy Shamrock Farms!

They put on the side of their milk cartons: "We pledge not to treat our cows with the growth hormone rBST. They were required by the government to attach the a label that states: " *No significant difference has been shown between milk derived from rBST-treated and Non-rBST treated cows." Such a load of lies are government puts out there. Thanks Walmart and Monsanto for lobbying are corrupt politicians, you crooks! We need to work hard to get these laws repealed.

The solution is amazingly

The solution is amazingly simple. Vote with your dollars. The more often we seek free market solutions, the more often the market will cater to us. There never was a ban on HFCS before they had to resort to re-branding it as Corn Sugar in an effort to save the poison. It was public awareness and people seeking other products. The more people seek to avoid GMO and simply buy non-gmo, the more the market will cater to us.

How is it simple when you

How is it simple when you don't know what foods are GMO and what are not? Its damn tough to find out what is GMO or not and only buying known non GMO limits your options quite severely because there are just not that many who go to the trouble to make sure the seed they are planting is non-GMO so they can label their product as such..

Its anything but simple...

Prop 37, GMO and Monsanto: The Devil You Know

Here's my blog posting on Prop 37. Unfortunately many well intentioned Liberty advocates were supporting 37 and I wrote this to try to help them understand the implications:

This is the first GMO topic I think I've upvoted

Bravo for approaching this issue ethically from a freedom perspective and not statist force.

The Good News

Free market is stepping into the breach.

The vote showed sellers that consumers want non-GMO.

Free speech won.

The thing to watch out for: another ballot measure, this time written by producers in other states, written to allow a certain percentage of ingredients to be GMO, and still claim non-GMO. That's the real danger of government participation in food.

We don't want the folks who raided the raw milk farms to be in charge of our labels.

What do you think? http://consequeries.com/

SPREAD THE WORD?

The words are already on the label. The only thing is they are lies we want the words to tell the truth. We want to know when we are eating korn instead of corn. We want to know if we're eating peanuts if we are allergic to peanuts.
The whole idea of putting the ingredients on something we buy is so that we know what's in it. There's nothing different here, GMO Korn is not corn.
We don't need a silly app to be running around scanning everything we need labels that aren't lying!

You've been had, suckered or what ever!

Monsanto and and their Fascist buddies have infiltrated the Organic industry!

There is no free market, when it comes to Monsanto!

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

This this this!

So many times, this!

Prop 37 was the wrong way to go about informing the public about GMO. The non-GMO project is a (dare I say it... organic?) market solution to a government interference problem. If you care about GMO in your food, get on board this project and tell everyone.

Businesses will listen to consumer demand if it's loud enough, no lengthy legal battles or law changes required.

free market will always exist

governments can not eliminate free market ideas.

When Monsanto can sue farmers for IP rights

there is no free market only the illusion of it! Whose right is it to grow what ever you choose on your own land? According to Monsanto if you can't build a fence good enough to keep their wind blown pollen out of your crops, you should be farming.

Farmers have to either join Monsanto or get out of business! Watch this documentary "the World According To Monsanto" then tell me there is a free market!

Yep. ...and what happens if a boycott starts to work and Monsanto loses profits? Monsanto is too big to fail! BAILOUT!

Then fight the laws which enable

... them to submit these lawsuits. That's what you should be fighting for; not for government-mandated labeling.

The message in the OP is exactly how liberty-minded folk should go about fighting these corporate special interests. With solutions from the market itself. Don't ask government to fight our battles for us.

If I want to put non-GMO on my label

at no cost to anyone why not? It is your choice to buy or not!

Monsanto and their Fascist friends in Washington say there is no difference in GMO or non-GMO products.

I never said anything about mandatory labeling.

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

Too bad you can't label your

Too bad you can't label your products non-GMO - another loss of your freedom thanks to powerful bio-tech corporations. Even if you could, their crops will soon contaminate yours anyway. It's a one-way scenario - your crops won't infect theirs, but theirs will infect yours.

edit

Instead of "you should be farming" it should read "you shouldn't be farming"

No Austrain economics so no free market

The federal government wants to prop up every business whether they need it or not.

IP Rights for Monsanto = Fascist company

why is it they need a patent on life anyway? this has led to these Fascist seed companies raiding the seed banks, stealing samples to patent them before any one else does it. So now they own the IP rights on all seeds throughout the world.

Monsanto even tried to patent the pig! If this was allowed every farmer would have to pay money to Monsanto whether they used their help or not.

very interesting.

will have to look in to this.

I voted NO on prop 37

The way I see it, organic is already labled. If it's not labeld organic, it's not.

Organic does not equal non-GMO

Monsanto has changed all the rules on this!

Why do you think they give thousands of dollars to your congressman and senators!

In 2008 my congressman Colin Peterson got $10,000. from Monsanto, other seed companies gave up to $5,000.

Fascism is alive and well in California now that there is no chance to stop the fascist companies from lying and doing their dirty work!

I'll bet Monsanto spent Millions to defeat this one, with a lot of slick lying ads!

Gold standard: because man can not be trusted to control his greed

John Boeher

got over $100,000.00

You didn't make your argument

If it says organic, it's not GMO.
