Rand Paul's "best" explanation why he endorsed Romney: "Romney is not the Real Deal." (Video from Campaign Trail)

In this video Rand Paul gives probably the "best" explanation why he endorsed Romney. By the best I mean most thorough explanation I have heard. If this explanation is good or bad is another question. This video is from October 21st, 2012.

The first explanation is between 2:45-5:55 and then he answers a question from the audience concerning his Romney endorsement: listen 9:35-13:25.

In his answer to the audience question Rand says, for example, that he doesn't think that Romney is "the real deal".

Rand is a grand master 4-dimensional hyper-chess player just like his dad!

Different strategies an interesting game make!

Daily Paul cured my abibliophobia.

Why and When?

I understand those who wish to be sympathetic to Rand but, what he doesn't explain is why and when.

Rand lost many of us. I can find no admirable reason that at the very least Rand could not have kept his mouth shut on Romney until after the convention. He could have endorsed away after that for all I care.

His betrayal of the cause (not of his father, that is not my business) at that key time when we had a real chance for a fight in Tampa and that corrupt stage available to us to wake up many more people through 15 minutes of his dad on it is unforgivable for me. With regard for what good he may do in the future, it is yet to be seen.

Bottom line: I will not trust him soon.

His mistimed and Hannity

His mistimed and Hannity infused endorsement is reflected in the amount of people in attendance.

When endorsing Romney, and therefore the actions of those who behaved unlawfully and dishonorably to advance his anointment, he aided in the nomination of a candidate that we all knew was not only vulnerable to attack due to his past, but detrimental to our cause.

Not only was Romney unfit to advance the liberty movement, he was in fact a driver and promoter of the very legislation that works to crush the very idea of liberty, freedom, self governance and the rule of law.

Does anyone who offers an example where Habeas Corpus is unwarranted deserve our support?

Romney admits he would have signed the National Defense Authorization Act if he were president (and more):

Romney on Waterboarding Guantanamo And Torture:

Do we compromise and endorse?

Ron Paul on compromise:

Thank you for the post.

The good thing about this post is that it makes sense. Still, I much rather have things the way they turned out. Romney for possible 8 years would of been devastating. Its time to Rise Up and work hard!!!

He makes some very reasonable

He makes some very reasonable points in the video. I won't forgive him for not endorsing his father (or the timing of his endorsement) but I won't hold a grudge either. As long as he keeps advancing the liberty message, I will support him.

I like Rand too, but on Rom

I like Rand too, but on Rom being far better than BO, Rand's just wrong - assuming he believes it.

On the the issues that matter to me; NDAA, indefinite detentions, kill lists, obamneycare, crony capitalism, the Fed, the debt, there is no difference, and on some of these issues an argument could be made that Rom was worse.

Facts are facts. They both suck.

His explanation for not writing in his dad

@3:10 "Well for one thing, nothing happens. Nobody counts it, it just gets thrown away."

Well that's fine. Ron Paul said close to the same thing in 2008: "But one must not be naïve and believe that under today’s circumstances one has a chance of accomplishing much by a write-in campaign."

In the video, Rand then goes on to explain why voting third party is also a wasted vote. Contrast this with Ron Paul's comments from 2008, "People will waste their vote in voting for the lesser of two evils." Ron Paul has talked so often about not falling for the "lesser of two evils," and Rand of all people should understand that.

And more of what Ron said, that Rand of all people should understand:

The two parties and their candidates have no real disagreements on foreign policy, monetary policy, privacy issues, or the welfare state. They both are willing to abuse the Rule of Law and ignore constitutional restraint on Executive Powers. Neither major party champions free markets and private-property ownership.

The strongest message can be sent by rejecting the two-party system, which in reality is a one-party system with no possible chance for the changes to occur which are necessary to solve our economic and foreign policy problems. This can be accomplished by voting for one of the non-establishment principled candidates – Baldwin, Barr, McKinney, Nader, and possibly others. (listed alphabetically)

This just makes Rand look even dumber.

No shit Willard wasn't the "real deal," not even close, so the fact that Rand willingly attached himself to that sinking ship anyway is still inexplicable.

I don't play, I commission the league.

I have to agree

The "explanation" makes no sense. The gullible ones who think Rand is some 007 james bond double agent superman who will save us all have forgotten that Ron Paul got massive support due to his honesty and wisdom, enough support to win. The election was stolen and given to a puppet. They'll only give Rand the presidency if he's one of them. Otherwise, they'd steal it from him just as they stole it from his dad.

I agree

Rand endorsed Romney while his dad was still running.Should Rand also endorse other corrupt republicans in congress?Corrupt democrats too?Maybe he should now endorse obama and romney so he can "trick" both democrats and republicans.lol

I think he should have waited until after the convention to

endorse Romney, and I was very angry (understatement) when he did it. But a lot of us were equally shocked when Ron Paul left the libertarian party and returned to the GOP.

Other than the timing of his endorsement, Rand has done nothing to make me turn against him. I will probably contribute to his next campaign, as I did his first.

I like how he is attacking foreign aid. By just targeting some foreign aid, and not all foreign aid, he is bringing this into the mainstream without being labeled as a "kook."

I like Rand

    I understand why he did

I understand why he did it....

What I cant forgive is WHEN he did it.....

    Ron Paul already admitted defeat

He did it when it was clear Ron lost

No, he didn't. No, it wasn't.

No, he didn't. No, it wasn't.

Paul never conceded, post a link where he did.

    Here you go

He did it in an email to his supporters in June. A day or two later Rand endorsed the eventual nominee, Romney

    No he stopped actively

No he stopped actively campaigning in primary states after the fraud....

Holy fuck do we really have to go over this atleast once a month???

why are you here? We all know what happened...

He stopped campaigning because internal polls showed he could not win

Im sure you were privy to

Im sure you were privy to those polls.
he COULD win...thats the point of the fraud at the RNC. He had the states.

Ill Ask again.....why are you here??

He said it himself (Ron) as did Doug Weade, they knew that they could not win. Thats why Ron sent an email out to his supporters stating that he could not win. The very next day Rand endorsed Romney. So while you live in a fantasy world that tells you if Ron was only Nominated from the floor, the thousands of Party Loyalists would have dumped Romney and voted Paul, I live in reality and recognize, as Ron Paul himself did, that would not be possible.

    nice video

I hope this makes it to the front page.

I think it's important for people to hear his answer.

People need to see that *this* is what Rand is doing while "campaigning for Romney."

    Front Page Material!

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

    That's Right!

If one agrees or not with Rand's answers is another thing, but definitely everyone should hear these explanations in this video.

    Nice find

Love Rand, not perfect, no one is, but I think hes the best of the bunch up there now.
