Buying Votes Would End The Recession OvernightSubmitted by nkanihan on Thu, 11/08/2012 - 16:36
While at work yesterday I overheard my co-workers talking about how much money the Republicans spent during the election and how disgusting it was. I kept my mouth shut, did a little research and sent them an e-mail with the figures I have listed below.
Total Money Spent for the 2012 Election: $1,352,581,202.00
Total Money Spent for the 2012 Election: $1,295,237,286.00
Approximately 118 million citizens voted for the Presidential Election
Republicans paid $10,976,587.17 per voter
Democrats paid $11,462,552,56 per voter
Total: $22,439,139.73 spent per voter
I know it is illegal.
I know it is immoral.
I know it goes against everything I beleive.
I know it would not work in this corrupt group of __________
What would happen if each of the 118 million people that voted received 22 million dollars total from both sides?
We would no longer be in a recession.
118 million people would quit their jobs.
118 million people would have new jobs.
Nobody would have a good excuse for being out of work.
Unemployment would be 0%
The only response I got was "Buying votes is illegal"
Really? I had no idea!
I am satisfied with the fact that I planted a seed and wiped SOME of the sleep from their eyes.
*The above figures were taken from http://www.opensecrets.org
I know you can probably find different numbers from different resources and I resect that. The data pulled from opensecrets.org was close enough for me to make my point.
The totals did not include outside spending or PAC's.
