Bloomberg bans food donations to homeless shelters

In one of NYC’s darkest hours, with resources stretched thin in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Michael Bloomberg is showing his priorities with a ban on food donations to homeless shelters. No, not because of food contamination, but because the city can’t properly assess salt, fat and fiber in donated food and thereby ensure starving people are getting the optimal levels of nutrition.

CORRECTION: This story was corrected to show the decision by the Bloomberg administration occurred in March.

I thought this story sounded familiar...

If it were me I would stealthily hand food out...tell the people to keep it on the down low and hopefully give them a little relief. The whole world doesn't need to know what you're doing...don't let the left hand know what the right hand is doing and try to relieve some suffering.

But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. Matthew 6:3-4

The law cannot make a wicked person virtuous…God’s grace alone can accomplish such a thing.

thank God I live down here in the south

where gun shows are as free of an exchange as farmers market, gold and silver coin shops are everywhere, land is abundant, and the family is not divided by creepy governments like NY.

Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right. -Henry Ford

Creepy City

All Hail King "Out of His Bloomberging Mind". No big drinks, no fresh soup, no bagels. Next he'll require everyone to wear RFID chips and they will stupidly comply.

People in New York put up with this? Really? What the heck is wrong with the people there? You couldn't get me to live there even if you gave me a pent house overlooking Central Park.

I heard about this back last Spring and was amazed. Is he really keeping this stupid law in effect after the hurricane as well? No way surely. But, nowadays you never know what can happen. Right?

skippy

I live in New York

And his positions on things like banning soft drinks over 24oz etc, are crazy. People will just buy 2 soft drinks if they're that thirsty. Also, at one point he had a crazy plan to place electronic mileage counter toll sensors under 5th avenue and Times Square. Then, of course, there's charging money for plastic bags at the grocery store. I think the big problem with this guy is that he hasn't lived a hard day in his life. If he did, he wouldn't take a piss on the poor every chance he gets, because when he's not, he's a reasonably competent mayor.

Umm, what?? Is this...is this real??

sigh

Bump, This man is evil.

.

This such a bull

Homeless shelters in NYC are not located in areas hit by the storm. There is no shortage of food or water. NONE. There is no mass looting. Hysteria caused by the media resulted in gasoline shortage. That is all.

Those who want to donate their expired can food thingy from their survival storage, send your silver coins instead or send the food to your local church/mosque.

Give it to Occupy Sandy Relief Efforts

I volunteered for them and they are running a smooth operation. All donations go directly into the hands of those in need.

Hello, my name is Andrew Ryan and I'm here to ask you a question: is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow?

I can't find anything on the web

that says he lifted the ban after Sandy. No matter whether the ban was lifted for Sandy or not, Bloomberg is a captial A$$ for passing it in the first place. Everything is upside down and inside out. They want to tell us what to eat to keep insurance costs low, I suppose, (it certainly isn't because they love us)but on the other hand we have Monsanto killing us with GMO.

People in Homeless Shelters

Have insurance?

skippy

TwelveOhOne's picture

Lkely not, so this keeps insurance costs low

Think of the emergency room.

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

This cannot be for real....can it?

I know a friend was wanting to assist during the floods down south and they had set ups that would not allow the general public to come in or help in any way.

I tried to get clothing, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, bottled water and gatorade, a truck load, etc.... to fire victims and no one would take it. "too much government paperwork" I drove all over the area. finally donated to a small church.

The erosion of our freedoms gets greater every day!

Not the full story, though.

UPDATE: "This story was corrected to show the decision by the Bloomberg administration occurred in March."

Democrats want people on their tit

And their tit is a jealous tit.

Followed the link trail, and I have doubts on this story

The link connected to this link (http://nation.foxnews.com/michael-bloomberg/2012/03/19/nanny...) is from March, as is the article that THAT link is linked to. (http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/no_kugel...) Whoever wrote this exact piece doesn't have evidence that Mayor Bloomberg is being stupid and starving hurricane victims right now. I don't see any witnesses being turned away due to lack of food plus having the ban still in place, or anything.

~looks again~ Ah HA! The correction is ABOUT the fact that this ban was placed back in March! This has nothing to do with the hurricane victims at all.

"Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice." -- Thomas Paine

so the ban is still in place from last march?

or did they lift the ban now that hurricane sandy has smacked new york?

I fell for this and posted it

I fell for this and posted it here. It is amazing that he did this at all, but shame on me for falling for it, and shame on msn for publishing it.

Ok then,

...take it down, perhaps?

What's worse?

That we fell for it, or that it is believable that Bloomberg would do this? lol just a thought.

So it's a fake ?

?

Redgyl, you are a candle in the darkness.

Thank you.

Resident Watchdog,

Thanks for the due diligence, and nice call on the gun-jumping.

He giveth, and he taketh away. The emperor wants no competition from his minions. I'm beginning to wonder if he's the guy the Commission is going to install in the White House next. It's perfect, really. After years of (R's) and (D's), the discontent is palpable. We'll give the people what they want--an (I). The media pushes him on the viewing public as a voice of progress and bipartisanship. Bloomers wins in a landslide, capitalizes on his "mandate" to institute the empire, demonize and turn the majority against those who dissent, and round them up and brand them as enemies of the State. Then, with a complicit society, the hammer falls.

Anybody here remember "DUE DILIGENCE?!"

Why is this story going to the top - have none of you checked the source?!
Bad hippy! You know better!

Seek the TRUTH, and do not spread lies, please.

If you make a habit of tracking back to the orignal source, you will often discover that you have been hooked by spin and lies.
The source for that story is March, 2012.

I am no fan of Bloomberg, but regurgitating old news to make him look worse has "blowback" - it makes you look like a spinmeister.

Do you have an account at MSN? I cannot comment on the story. Someone at your link needs reamed a new a-hole for their part in perpetuating lies and half truths in the guise of news.

What specific lies are being spread.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution, inevitable.

Is a half-truth a lie?

This is being circulated now as if this JUST happened, (In the darkest hour, in the aftermath of Sandy) and the story is MONTHS old.
That feels like "truth" to you? If so, I understand, we live in a very twisted time. But it is not truth. It is meant to deceive.
