GENIUS! Occupy declares a "Rolling Jubilee" - starts November 15

"A bailout of the people by the people.
We buy debt for pennies on the dollar, but instead of collecting it, we abolish it. We cannot buy specific individuals' debt - instead, we help liberate debtors at random through a campaign of mutual support, good will, and collective refusal.

The Jubilee begins November 15
with "The People's Bailout," a variety show and telethon in NYC.
All proceeds will go directly to buying people's debt and cancelling it."

The most important principle of Liberty and Freedom...

The most important principle of Liberty and Freedom is responsibility. To be free, a person must have the liberty to make their own choices and pursue their own goals and accept responsibility for the consequences of their choices.

Without responsibility, you cannot be free. If you aren't responsible for the outcome of your choices then you aren't responsible for the choices you made. From that we get statements like, "You didn't build that!" as our President said. You aren't responsible for the company you built. You aren't responsible for the invention you created. You aren't responsible for your health, your college education, your home mortgage, your credit cards. If not you, then who is responsible? The government, of course, and since its the government's responsibility, the government has the duty to protect you from "bad choices". A government that believes it knows better than its citizens what choices they should make is the definition of totalitarian.

Like the bank's who profitted from their good choices and passed to the government responsibility for their bad choices, the OWS movement is proffering the same option for individuals. It's hypocritical at best, a sign the members of the movement do not have a grasp on what they saying. Personnally, I think campaigns like this are designed to destroy a person's sense of personal responsiblity.

If you have a student loan, like me, no one held a gun to your head and made you sign those papers. It is no one's responsibility, other than your own, if you didn't know what you were doing. If you regret your choices and you want other's to take responsibility for them, whether its OWS or the government, anyone, you don't understand what it means to be free.

Bottom line, Libertarian's believe in the freedom to take responsibility. OWS and the Progressives believe in freedom from responsibility.

Voluntary socialism...

Voluntary socialism is perfectly in-line with the idea of personal liberty. If you don't want it, don't pay into it and don't take it!

Anybody can negotiate with creditors for a lower principle

Anybody can call a creditor, explain their financial situation, and negotiate a lower principle. This is especially true after the original creditor sells it to collection agencies.

And you don't have to put up with all the phone calls either. One simple letter puts the collection agency on notice that you will only communicate in writing. They are legally forbidden to call you after that and can be fined if they do.

I had a rough period awhile ago and was able to settle most of my debt without bankruptcy, without being harrassed, without going to a debt management company, and only paying about 15% what I owed. It sucked but I had no choice and the creditors agreed to the settlement. It does hurt your credit rating for awhile but after a few years it is not a problem. Who cares about your credit rating, you don't need more debt anyway. And you will most likely have to pay taxes on the forgiven debt. But you can file a form claiming insolvency and most, maybe all, those taxes evaporate.

And so what if they keep writing you a letter. If you can't pay, what can they do? Nothing. If you truly can't pay and they take you to court then you file bankruptcy and they get nothing. If you can hold yourself together and not panic you are in the drivers seat and can settle for what you can really afford. Plus, each state has a statute of limitations on debts. In Ohio, they can't collect after 6 years. So this problem is not a lifelong issue.

Bottom line, most people can settle their debt for pennies on the dollar themselves without being bailed out by OWS. Obviously, student loans are a different animal but other debts can be settled.

If anyone needs help with this process of settling debts just email me. I have all the letters and steps to take to set yourself free.

The Jubilee is Rolling.

The website has a lot more detail now.
For those who continue to dismiss this as an OWS idea, here ya' go:

For those who think "God will save us" consider the joke about the guy who refused help from the police, the lifeboat and the helicopter...

This is about exposing the Federal Reserve banking fraud and doing random acts of kindness. It is just sad how so many people look for excuses to not show kindness unless the recipient proves they are worthy...

THIS IS NOT AN OWS CONCEPT, or else I am the real founder of OWS and did not even know it, and I got the idea from the Bible. It is a Judeo-Christian concept. Is that an anti-liberty socialist group?

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

Well you got half of it right....

it is a Judeo concept, where debts were forgiven amongst the tribe. The debt of Gentiles was NOT forgiven.

OWS is the covetous horde

Nothing good can come from emboldening covetous people because their nature serves only one thing; evil.

As far as I can tell, they're bald faced Communists who condemn the profit motive and want the government printing "debt free" fiat money. I don't want to be their slave any more than a bankers, a politicians, or a corporations.

These are good people who have been fed lies their whole life.

They are catching on, and still have much to learn. You are an arrogant little thing.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

The truth can't be denied; it can only be attacked.

"You are an arrogant little thing."

Not the greatest combination of ideas aye? I'm arrogant, and you think I'm a "little thing". Compared to what; you?

They haven't caught on to anything. They feed through government force and thought they could demonize 1% of us. Like I said; they have no problem with fiat money.

They unjustly want; they covet, and what they covet is what they perceive as their fair share of a fiat money scam. Nothing good comes from slavery, and that's what fiat money is, declaring all the world, and all it's productive labor to be owned by those who print money from nothing. They're Communists.

They're eying anybody that has a horde of fiat debt notes and calling them the 1%. A looter needs to feel justified while they steal what they covet; fiat money, productive labor, PLUNDER. They want to feel justified stealing from those who produce profit, so they demonize profit and herald debt free money as the solution, something created from nothing and given to them through political force.

OWS wants a goose to lay golden turds and a politician to hand those turds out to them, because when you don't produce anything of value and condemn the very idea of doing so, golden turds are a win win.

If somebody demonizes the profit motive, they aren't a Libertarians friend, because they've chosen to be the enemy of humanity and Liberty. Why would I want to be the owner of my own productive labor unless I recognized my labor as productive and want to PROFIT FROM IT!?

Without producing profit from productive labor, human beings DIE! The Garden of Eden is long gone.

You couldn't pay me to stand in an OWS camp.

OWS messed up. Never tempt the American people to defend even 1% of itself from the covetous horde. We'll do it EVERY TIME.

Suggested "Jubilee" task for the day

If you are like me, and see this as a tremendous opportunity to gut the "debt based" bankster conspiracy, please help get the word out. I will post an idea a day from now until the 15th. Let me know if you have ideas of your own!
Contact the "Occupy" nearest you and offer to help them publicize anything they do in conjunction with this effort.
To those who don't like "Occupy" -
I see some saying "Occupy is not an ally" below and that is ridiculous. We are all slaves, so we are all allies if we understand the value of finding common ground.
This is from the Bible. Is God not your ally, either? How about Christians, are they your enemies?
Stop looking for excuses to "be different" and learn to support what is good, even if you don't like the person or group that presented the idea.
You understand there were many at "Occupy" with "End the Fed" signs?
If you expect lock-step agreement from your allies in a libertarian movement, you are going to be alone.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

"Jubilee", necessary.

thanks for bringing this matter into focus, its beneficial. Therefore all should do edu of self, then mention it & inform others, so its implementation is facilitated.
The Debt crisis is getting worse with every tick of the clock. Those who were considered $mart can offer no solutions, therefore "Divine Intervention" is required, = there is nothing else that can shame them into listening. Jubilee is for their own good, it offers safety to all, therefore follow the rules for Jubilee. Otherwise there will be great disturbance-s, = then no one will be in a better condition.

Occupy is not an ally...

The Occupy movement is not a friend of Liberty. At best they are spoiled children who don't know what they are talking about. At worst, they are useful idiots who's strings are being pulled by Socialist Progressive puppetmasters to bring down the capitalist system.

Occupy and Liberty agree on one thing, government is the problem. From there they diverge in opposite directions. Occupy wants more government and Liberty demands less.

Yep occupy is made up of big government people

Who hate capitalism and want to Use government to advance their cause like banning gmo, corporate profits, firing workers

They thnk everything is "racist" and want to use government to regulate everything and to cap pay to achieve "fairness"

Sounds very dangerous and socialist to me

OPTOR and CANVAS in regards to their manufactured revolutions and ties with "Occupy".

I'm With TZAdvantage - This is idea is for suckers.

.

I think it is the dumbest thing i have ever seen.

Very typical of the Occupy movement. Very socialist also.
Instead of abolishing the debt the debt (whats left of it) should be repaid.

For instance if a debt of 100000 US$ has a rate of 5% the burden for the ones who have that debt is 100000 / 100 * 5 = 5000 US$ a year.
On top of that the principal has to be paid back, say in 10 years.
That adds another 10000 US$ a year making the total amount that has to be paid per month 15000 / 12 = 1250 US$.

Now if that debt is bought for pennies on a dollar. Let's assume this debt can be bought for 25000US$.
You would need to raise the interest rate to maybe about 10% fixed for the total duration.
Then they would have to pay 25000/100*10 = 2500US$ per year for interest and 2500 for the pricipal making a total of 5000 per year. That would be 417US$ per month.
If someone can still not pay that then they should find another place to stay, because if that amount can not be paid, a lot of things are wrong and it is better to just repossess the house and sell it.

By doing this there would be a cashflow that can keep the jubilee rolling for a long time and is not only depended on donations. It will reach the goal quicker.

This can be of interest for people who want to make money on this (You know, it is the capitalist system and free market).
The 10% gives enough profit, and a deal can be made that a part of it is put back in the 'jubilee fund'.
A 10% roi is very interesting for people who want to invest, it is even backed by a property that is worth more so no risks.
If this is promoted the problem is solved in a month.

I disagree that the govt debt

I disagree that the govt debt should be paid. It is odious debt! Please research what this means. Don't you realize that our currency is issued as debt? We should tell the banks to F off.

Here is a site that has more

Here is a site that has more information. I still think they need a good explanation of how and where they buy the debt who is going to buy it how it all will work in the real world. Right now they are mostly playing to emotions...

So Far I Like It...

Actually this is a good idea but needs to be developed more and there needs to be some assurances the majority of the money being donated gets spent on actually buying the debt.

If I understand correctly they are advocating buying mortgages and loans on the discount market and then forgiving them to whoever the borrowers are.

So who ever gets their debt canceled is completely random and the fake loans are getting bought for pennies on the dollar then canceled. I like it so far and it is some good outside the box thinking.

Right now though they need to explain it better and come up with a plan to ensure the donations go to what they are claimed to do so donors will feel comfortable to donate.

I am not sure how one would do that and I would like to know more about how one buys these loans on the discount market. There need to be some brain storming sessions it seems...

Relief from Debt = Jubilee.

+1. giving relief from debt is a kind act, like charity, chivalry, compassion.

Yeah sounds...uh...it sounds...wait, what?

We are currently taking donations to whoosh away debt by randomly randomizing random things and making all wavy motions with our arms while the drums bang away all night long. And then poof! No more debt!

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

It... doesn't ... address... the... root cause... of the problem

Those people getting "bailed out" will just get endebted again. It's like hiding a drug addict's drug (in a minuscule scale, they're talking about 50k-1 million $ worth of debt...), the addict will just find a way to get some more.

I don't think it's a bad idea as a symbolic gesture but it's just another form of kicking the can down the road...

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, an

but it sure will wake up a whole lot of people.

It has to be coupled with education.

And you are correct, there will always be deadbeats and dolts, but "Random acts of forgiveness" will have an overall beneficial effect on society. Many will become educated, too.
