Los Angeles is turning vegetarian – at least one day per week.

Under a resolution unanimously approved by the City Council this week, all future Mondays in the City of Angels have been declared "Meatless Mondays."

It's part of an international campaign to cut down on meat consumption for health and environmental reasons.

Gee, I always take my health care advice from politicians.

If you want to eliminate something from your diet that actually will have an effect, maybe it would be better to listen to this heart surgeon.

http://preventdisease.com/news/12/030112_World-Renown-Heart-...

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream diet that is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. This repeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flour and all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

I don't really understand

I don't really understand whether this is some kind of campaign or mandate or what? What exactly are they doing by declaring Monday "Meatless Monday"?

I'm vegetarian, and I agree with a comment below stating the best way to reduce meat consumption would be to get rid of the subsidies toward the corporate factory industry, including the feed which is for the most part subsidized gmo corn(factory meat is the reason it is grown in mass quantities).

BrotherJohnF, I happen to agree with regularly, just had a take on this, and related, an update on Ohio food stamps and coming California taxes; he summed that mess up pretty fairly.

That's means...

"Protein" (Style In-N-Out) Mondays for me then...3 patties, no cheese (paleo style).

Protein Protest!!!

Check this out:

I lost >45lbs, my lipid panel, FBS, A1C back to normal, stopped

b/p meds and statins altogether and I'm virtually pain free from joints, etc..never felt like this since my college years. My primary MD was so surprised and she finally stopped lecturing me of eating right for so many months/per 3 month visits.

So how come I'm eating more meat and yet my LDL & Triglyceride levels are at the lowest it has been..can you explain to me that?!

Now, I'm just off by 2lbs to attain my target BMI, all thanks to Paleo..and I am testament to that.

Good

Thanks for posting!

The best way to reduce meat

The best way to reduce meat consumption would be to end all agriculture subsidies to farmers and livestock raisers. Make people pay the real cost for beef and chicken, and consumption will go down! And we would have a much greater supply of grass fed meat! The government doesn't subsidize the grass!

I'm vegetarian, and I

I'm vegetarian, and I absolutely agree.

Totally!

We're spoiled by unrealistically low prices for these things.

Plus all the sh*t cheap corn (the cultivation of which is insanely subsidized and uses stoopid mad crazy fossil fuels and biologically injurious amounts of synthesized fertilizers) which is fed to these critters (for which they are not fully biologically suited to eat) can be at least partially taken out of the equation.

Let that free market do its thang!

(And carnivores like myself will always raise our own or pay premium bux for the real article!)

I think passing these types of edicts are laughable in their bitterly ironic absurdity.

What would the Founders do?

I guess they haven't yet

I guess they haven't yet looked into paleo or primal living.

While I Too Remain Skeptical Of Their Motives ...

The TRUTH of the matter remains that eating less meat, regardless of whether it be conventional livestock or free range organic, is beyond any reasonable doubt a step in the right direction toward achieving world peace. This is proven in multiple ways in my article "Sowing The Seeds For A Peace Revolution":

And for those of you who may find this to be an inconvenient truth, please keep in mind that I am only a messenger of the truth, not the creator of truth. So please do not have any hang-ups with me for merely researching the truth and presenting it. So far not one person has made an argument that something I stated in the article is untrue.

So please read it before making any presumptions.

Also, ANYONE who negative votes this comment without giving a reason lacks integrity, and shows that not all of us in this room are adult enough to be taken seriously.

Sigh....

The inmates are running the asylum in LA LA Land. I wonder how much it's cost the taxpayers to come up with this brilliant idea and how much it's going to cost them in the future to promote it, I'm sure they'll need TV spots and billboards to let people know that going meatless one day a week MAY improve your health.
