Jon Huntsman reflects on GOP's loss: "We've lost the economy, we don't value diplomacy and we're missing the libertarian vote"

They also talk about the 'Conservative Entertainment Complex' pushing a false narrative throughout the election and that the Republicans should be more supportive of states' rights.

Oh, then I guess you didn't mean it when you wrote...

..."If the "Libertarian brand" takes a side regarding same sex marriage and the freedom to use drugs, then count me out of this brand."

Dear dd...

If it were a true Libertarian philosophy, than it would not be a state or federal issue at all...it would be left up to the individual to decide for themselves.

Moving this up.

.

Why would libertarians be OK with tyranny on the state level?

So while it's not OK for the nation to dictate moral policy to states, it's somehow OK for states to legislate morality for their citizens?

Moral foundation has nothing to do with it. I feel it is you who is trying to insert morality into libertarianism rather than the media trying to make libertarianism secular. Libertarianism already is secular. Find me a libertarian that doesn't fawn over Ayn Rand.

There Are Some Issues

...so divisive that the far greater evil would be for a "bought" Supreme Court to determine just what is and is not moral. Most who advocate this issue being pushed down to the State level do so for several reasons:

-they are advocates of smaller federal government staying away from these kinds of judgement calls without the people (other than $) having a voice.

-kicking it down to the States is an effort to let the people vote and decide. There is more likelihood of the voice of the people being heard at the State level, more opportunity for activism whatever you stance.

-distasteful though it is for me being pro-life to say, it opens up a free market deciding.

Take Memphis where I am currently roosting temporarily. Tennessee does not have legalized gambling. It comes up for vote year after year and is voted down. Meanwhile Mississippi has legalized gambliing and people from Tennessee who want to gamble take their money over to Mississippi. Despite the money that has come into Mississippi, gambling continues to get voted down. One can only assume that a majority of the voters in Tennessee do not want gambling despite the money. (((Funny but a very expensive, unused, often flooded Pyramid structure ...money changers reminiscent is often proposed as the ideal place for gambling in Memphis. It would bring in downtown traffic/money etc.)

Perhaps Mississippi would legalize abortion and people would travel across State lines to have an abortion. Some from Mississippi might even move to Tennessee if they were sufficiently repulsed. It is unlikely that Tennessee would legalize abortion.

Eventually the moral issue will be resolved. I do not think it can or should be legislated because that opens the door to more federal moral judgements. Abortion is amoral to me. There is not general consensus yet. Pro-choice advocates should become activists. Morals are a societal evolution. The majority have not yet decided even if they should that abortion is murder.

I can't take

Romney's 2nd cousin seriously.

Wait. Who or what are you blaming, exactly, Mr. Huntsman ?

I mean ... besides your selfish careerism and GOP mafia influence circles ?

Have you ever heard of that text called the Constitution ?

Please have a rotten day.

If the economy improves over the next 4 years I'll eat my hat

Huntsman really is clueless if he thinks the economy is going to improve under Obama and the unrestrained Fed in the next 4 years.

Oh I wish he wasn't speaking in fairy-tales because my family is hurting. I would love for there to be prosperity. But, I'm too realistic to believe that.

And we didn't spend any energy on Obama's birth certificate and the piddly amount we did spend wouldn't have solved a single issue we now face. they spent more time ignoring it than they did trying to investigate it.

I'm glad I don't have cable anymore. These fools pretend they know what they are talking about and bigger fools watch them for advice and direction on what to think.

Governments all measure their goods in inflated paper-money.

They make budgets. They overspend. They cite their overspent budget... their budget deficit, as evidence that they need more of your money & a larger budget. This may be summarized as "the run around."

To you, you might see this as ever increasing numbers of everything denominated in you national currency. In the case of the US, the paper Dollar. Compare prices in silver Dollars to see my point... If one is to see any point to this charade..

Why is nearly all our Income Tax paid to the Fed, as interest on our National Debt? Which we printed for them. We gifted to them. What really happened the night before Christmas Eve, 1913? When all was quiet? Not a creature stirred? No even a mouse? Just rats? In empty Senate & House congressional chambers?

Perhaps governments authorize someone else to print paper-money: "The tax around: I tax. Therefore, I am." - The-Printer-That-Be

Is This The Same John Huntsman

Who tried to sabatage Ron Paul by running negative videos on himself and his children and then tried pinning it on Ron Paul?

Huntsman: "Libertarian strands in this party of ours."

Indeed. More like libertarian heavy ropes if you ask me. This guy always looks presidential. The key word is 'looks.' What he says is pure trash because it's all ex post facto. It all sounds good, but where was he standing up for the 10th Amendment and the States with all the social issues? or where was he standing up for the Article 1, section 9 when the Patriot Act was signed by Bush or the NDAA was signed by Obama? Loving every minute of it, if you ask me.

how can the republican party embrace its libertarian side?

I like how all of the dumbfucks refrain from using RON PAULS name , WHEN THEY ALL FUCKING KNOW HE WAS RIGHT AND WOULD HAVE BEAT OBAMA!

ITS THE MEDIA STUPID!! THEY TAYLOR HOW 95 PERCENT OF TV-ZOMBIES OUT THERE THINK.

"THEY WERE LIED TO BY CONSERVATIVE ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX"

that sums it up best

us rino's , more like neo-con douchebags, lets shut down 25 percent of the party at the RNC and have BOEHNER with PRICK PREIBUS disenfranchise all of us dailypaulers.

"He's this eccentric Ghandi-Like figure that you cant touch with the normal bribes that people respond to."

Do any of you know what a

Do any of you know what a neo-con is? Huntsman is not a neo-con. He is a liberal Republican.

Neocons are extreme liberals

Neocons are extreme liberals who call themselves conservatives.

Resist the temptation to feed the trolls.

I meant liberal Republican as

I meant liberal Republican as in Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon or Thomas Dewey. These are people who have been in the GOP since it's founding. The real neocons switched over in the 70s, having previously backed JFK.

Compare the Jon Huntsman foreign policy with that of Rubio or McCain or Santorum, who want permanent presence in Iraq and Afghanistan and strongly supported the Libya intervention. Huntsman is not a neo-con. Most people who disagree with Ron Paul are not actually neo-cons.

wrong

You can't dismiss his support for the foreign policy of the neoconservatives. Yes he's fiscally liberal. Yes he's a Republican. But neither of those exclude his neoconservative leanings.

He is more of a Rockerfeller

He is more of a Rockerfeller Republican than a neocon. The neocons only entered the GOP in the 70s. The GOP has had interventionist elements since the 40s and arguably going all the way back to Teddy Roosevelt.

Jon Huntsman said he think it is time to bring the troops home and supported staying out of Libya and was attacked by Santorum for this alongside Ron Paul. That is not a neoconservative viewpoint.

Teddy Roosevelt, Asst. Secretary of Navy, 1898. Liberate Cuba!

Spanish / American War! Fought in Cuba & Philippines.

US claimed to be fighting the war not for selfish gain, but to liberate an oppressed people and promote justice in the world.

Summary: After the explosion of the USS Maine, the US public was whipped up into an anti-Spanish hysteria. Despite Spain's desire to avoid war and President William McKinley's distaste for war, the yellow press continued feeding the public's appetite for anti-Spanish news. Hawks like then-Assistant Secretary of the Navy Theodore Roosevelt loudly criticized the reluctant McKinley for being weak and afraid.

Although he disagreed with the public's demands for war, McKinley finally submitted to the various pressure exerted on him. The Maine had exploded in Mid-February, and on April 11, 1898, McKinley finally sent a message to Congress giving his support for a declaration of war on Spain. Congress, which now had the President's word that he would not block a war with Spain as Cleveland had threatened to do, was ecstatic. On April 24, 1898 Spain declared war on the US. The next day, on April 25, the US declared war on Spain. The US public was exuberant, and the people celebrated as the country cheerfully went to war.

In order to prove the righteousness of the US cause, Congress decided to send a message to the European powers, many of whom believed the American war against Spain to be an imperialistic land-grab, an effort to assume control of Cuba from Spain. Congress passed the Teller Amendment in May 1898, in which the US promised not to annex Cuba, but to liberate it as an independent state. Thus, the US claimed to be fighting the war not for selfish gain, but to liberate an oppressed people and promote justice in the world.

Note, M.T.:Teddy Roosevelt, Asst. Secretary of Navy, 1898. Off to liberate Cuba! He brought his own photographer & historian to record his epic ride up the hill. Had to walk the last few hundred yards... His horse was tuckered out.

This and other noise from the peanut gallery

Will continue to be published in a desperate attempt from the establishment to reshape what is fact.it is our responsibility to set the record straight at every opportunity. This is not just some shill being quoted in an article. This is an organized, collective assault on truth for the purpose of the neoconservative wing to desperately perpetuate the party of war.

They intentional mean to dilute the name of Ron Paul by sliding in general terms. This is an attack on truth...exposé these evil men! We have the upper hand right now and do not capitulate to compromise. The party is ours for the taking, they have no right to refer to us as the afterthought. We are the party!

For Freedom!
The World is my country, all mankind is my brethren, to do good is my religion.

Jon Huntsman is just like David Frum.

They know Neoconservatism has failed under GOP leadership, so, they want to play nice with democrats, hoping they'll get some crumbs when the Dems clean house.

Huntsman is a D-bag

Everyone knows he got a bump from the Romney campaign back in New Hampshire in exchange for running that negative manchurian candidate add to try and smear Dr Paul. He is just another Keynesian hack neocon goon.

Nobody should ever forget this.

Huntsman, or someone near him, took a dive to hurt Ron Paul's early primary results.

that link seems to not work

that link seems to not work anymore... but I was thinking along the same lines. Self proclaimed Manchurian Candidate.

Two observations

1) Blame anything but neocon ideology.

2) don't say Ron Paul.

They are all still swimming in da-nile "Conservative Entertainment Complex".

Someone disabled the Re-pube-lickin's

voting machine cheat patches at the last minute. It shock and awed them. "Wha? Wait until 100% of votes are counted...damn...why is that thing not kickin' in yet?"

I thought I was just cranky!

I hardly found a thing to agree with Jon Huntsman about, with the possible exception of some of his remarks about the 10th amendment. Looks like he pulled the wool over the eyes of no one here.
