Best New Businesses for Liberty People to Start?

I closed my business this past summer. Even though it was chugging along and I was making the paycheck with my American-made product I felt like it was more of a crutch stopping me from doing something bigger and better.

So I'm looking for a new business to start that will provide something people actually need, rather than junk they don't, allow for duplication in other communities, create some jobs, and educate people in some way.

I'm thinking:

-Gardening in small spaces
-Energy independence
-Home security
-Self defense
-Whatever ideas DPers have to offer.

Thanks!

Worms Farms...

...I like worm farms...

Pandas eat bugs.

Do you know this poem?

nobody loses all the time, by e.e. cummings

nobody loses all the time

i had an uncle named
Sol who was a born failure and
nearly everybody said he should have gone
into vaudeville perhaps because my Uncle Sol could
sing McCann He Was A Diver on Xmas Eve like Hell Itself which
may or may not account for the fact that my Uncle

Sol indulged in that possibly most inexcusable
of all to use a highfalootin phrase
luxuries that is or to
wit farming and be
it needlessly
added

my Uncle Sol's farm
failed because the chickens
ate the vegetables so
my Uncle Sol had a
chicken farm till the
skunks ate the chickens when

my Uncle Sol
had a skunk farm but
the skunks caught cold and
died so
my Uncle Sol imitated the
skunks in a subtle manner

or by drowning himself in the watertank
but somebody who'd given my Uncle Sol a Victor
Victrola and records while he lived presented to
him upon the auspicious occasion of his decease a
scrumptious not to mention splendiferous funeral with
tall boys in black gloves and flowers and everything and

i remember we all cried like the Missouri
when my Uncle Sol's coffin lurched because
somebody pressed a button
(and down went
my Uncle
Sol

and started a worm farm)

I have had an idea that may fit your criteria

There have been many posts on here regarding prepping, storing food, GMOs, and being prepared in case of a disaster. What I envision is a situation where a group of like minded people, lease, rent or buy farm land (25-100 acres) within a reasonable distance from where they live in the city. It would be for the purposes of producing quality low cost food, a secure place to retreat to if TSHTF, learn agricultural skills, build equity & income in a business venture, and achieve a high level of self sufficiency.

Intensive farming techniques would be employed, like aquaponics, rotational grazing, greenhouses, organic gardening, to produce, vegetables, beef, pork, chickens, eggs and fish. With facilities for shop/farm operations, food storage and temporary living quarters (camping?).

The food and produce would be marketed direct to people living in the city who want a low cost, non GMO organic quality product direct from the farm on a JIT order basis.

This is a local organic farm in Mi, it's a basic example http://www.grassfieldscheese.com/ple
another example, growing power in Milwaukee

And add a tech shop with some space and tools

Great idea

theurbanfarmingguys.com has about 50% of this model on the self-sustainability / buy land in city side. People here should really check them out :)

Lots of great info and an inspiring tale.

How do you organize a city/farm survival business?

I have 40 acres just outside of Grand Rapids that I have thought would be ideal for such a venture, just not sure how to make it happen. It's rented to the organic farm I posted above, Grassfields. The land is all certified organic, part pasture and part wooded with a creek running through it.

My company KrupnikCo...

I recently started a company selling Krupnik spices. Krupnik is a delicious Polish drink, made from spices like vanilla beans, cinnammon, juniper berries, cardamom, and others. You combine the spices with water, honey, and vodka, and drink during holidays and celebrations. My wife and I started making some for Christmas parties with the extended family, and everyone loved it and told us we should start a business. So we did :)

Originally I was going to try to sell bottled Krupnik - but the FDA regulations for such a product is mind numbing. However the FDA regulations for dried spices are much more manageable, so that's the route my wife and I took. This is our first home business and we're 100% self funded.

I've been considering advertising on the Daily Paul since I hang out here a lot :) But Michael commands a decent rate for Daily Paul ads (good for him), so I'm sticking with Google Adwords for right now.

If anyone has suggestions for tapping into the undoubtedly huge and lucrative market for honeyed spiced vodka, I'm all ears :)

Are you selling...

...wholesale yet?

Are you attending any trade shows? The Fancy Food (specialtyfood.com) show is the mother of all trade shows.

Are you using food brokers?

Got a special maple syrup blend to go with pfeffernusse?

For non-poles that's a sort of pepper cookie - great for dippin'!

Yes, Krupnik would pair up with Pfeffernusse

Hey I've had pfeffernusse before, just didn't know it was called that!
I pulled up the ingredients on AllRecipies.com. Based on the ingredients, Pfeffernusse and Krupnik should actually match up quite nicely. I'd suggest our Polish Krupnik as it has a smooth vanilla flavor that I think would go very well with Pfeffernusse.

Good going!

I'm doing the same thing albeit on a smaller scale. Off grid education and security is a big future move and prepping hasn't really hit the mainstream.

I think Sandy is gonna change that. And given as newly interested people aren't gonna be from our "orthodoxy" they will need all the really basic 101 hand-holding type stuff they can get.

If for the past 8 years I was concentrating on similar business concepts I'd be rather wealthy instead of scraping by as I do now. Something inside me it telling me it's far from too late an I (as we all) have unique skills and perspective to bring to the table.

I believe you can message me through this site. I'd be happy to bounce some ideas back and forth with you. And unlike some of my peers I still believe very strongly in partnership and collaboration.

There is nothing strange about having a bar of soap in your right pocket, it's just what's happening.

Gold and Silver Backed real estate

Ron Paul said on one of those financial shows recently that real estate was a good investment right now.

Get liberty backers to invest in Gold and Silver then use that as collateral for a loan for properties.

Update the properties and lease them.

Housing and interest are at an all time low. Leasing is at an all time high.

Your dollars are secure against inflation because it is in Gold and Silver and Properties.

You can always raise the rent. If Gold goes through the roof you can take a chunk and pay off all the loans.

Then invest a percentage in RON PAUL 2016!

That's actually a very bright idea

+1

Had an idea earlier

about trying to get people together to actually start our own media (beyond the YT vids and websites such as this one), and to try getting enough people to cover the main angles (talent, tech, legal, booking).

I figure since so many people here talk about it, why not do it? Ideally, the radio/tv station would be (at least in part) funded by other liberty-friendly businesses. I dunno, just sorta thinking out loud here. Maybe just start locally in Wyoming or NH or TX.

Of course, that'd require some serious startup cash, most of which I don't have. :<

Start w access TV

It's free!

There's that

but I had something a bit different in mind. Although what you suggested could work for the more local issues around here (such as the property taxes...)

Basically, what I'm looking for is to get others here to work together...and not have ME be the one behind a camera/mic. I'm willing to do tech work, cover legal stuff (best I can), marketing, graphic design, writing, putting up money-- ANYTHING besides being the face/voice. I prefer to play to my strengths, know what I mean?

Part of this comes from me wanting to start up a business myself, so yes there's an element of self-interest here.

An idea

I am a business owner and I have been working on another idea over the past couple of years. I agree with your comments on this thread. I am from NH and I believe you are also from NH. If possible we can meet and discuss in detail or through email. What do you say?

Sounds like you want to be a liberty-minded employee

which is cool.

Was interviewed in '08 at a banker-bailout protest. The on-screen talent (reporter - ha ha) was not very friendly...

but the camera guy was totally pro liberty, anti NWO.

Between him and the editor all the best anti-globalist signs we had made ended up on the evening news.

So, if your strengths are as an employee rather than as an employer, they are still needed and can be used for good!

BTW the best thing about running your own business is that you only have to work 120 hours per week and the rest of the time you can spend partying on your private island :)

Well

EmployER, actually. Like I say, I'm looking to start up something myself. Thing is, I'm more of a behind the scenes kind of guy. I'm not good at any of the typical small talk BS that so many people just LOVE to do, and it shows in a bad way.

I've gone into small ventures with others in the past and it always works so long as I don't actually have to pretend to care about pictures of some client's pet cat Tinkerbell or whatever. I'm a numbers person, not a people person.

you just need a front man/woman

I have been in a business partnership where I am the behind the scenes person and it has worked out great. They deal with the people which is what sells it.

Perhaps 'silent partner'???

There's lots of options in business besides being the 'front-man'.

I don't know your business history and don't mean to belittle. Apologies.

IDEA: Start a company that focuses on your key strengths. Examples: production services. Media distribution. Lighting. Other behind the scenes things that have to be done right for the on-the-camera people to really shine.

Pandas eat bugs.

No need to apologize.

You didn't say/do anything wrong! ;o

Yeah, I've done the silent partner thing and that's all well and good, but I *want* to have a say and contribute ideas, I just don't want to have to deal with the "human" side of things.

Basically, I want to help spread the idea of liberty to more people...without actually dealing with them.

Honestly, after a little thought, I'd rather just stick with having someone else come up with an idea and me invest 10, 20, 30k in that person, or simply pay someone to carry out my idea. THAT is where I shine. So yeah man, come up with an idea and I'll give you some money, deal? LOL

I'm writing a book of harmonica instruction for physical therapy

for disabled veterans, alongside another book of general diatonic harmonica instruction, but both are off-topic for this thread so I can't say anymore!

What I can say is something I've learned in the music biz is that without the behind-the-scenes people there wouldn't be much to enjoy.

And when these people talk the 'talent' listens.

Pandas eat bugs.

its not off-topic
