Floyd County’s Ron Paul supporters did not go unheard in the presidential election, although the 41 write-in votes cast for the Republican also-ran will remain officially uncounted.
But several certified write-in candidates also drew some of the 92 votes cast for people other than the ones who made it on the ballot — Democrat Barack Obama, Republican Mitt Romney and Libertarian Gary Johnson.
Green Party nominee Jill Stein netted 10 votes; Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party won three votes; and one person voted for Rocky Anderson, the Justice Party candidate.
“Those will be counted, although there’s not enough to change anything,” Floyd County Elections Clerk Donna Maldonado said.
Among the other local write-ins for president were early Republican favorite Herman Cain, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.
Voters also wrote in candidates for other races, with 336 cast in the uncontested re-election of District Attorney Leigh Patterson, a Democrat.
“Anyone who will support a drug court” was one of the votes, although variations on “anyone else” came in second with 44 votes. Local attorneys Dan Morgan and Doug Slade pulled in a handful, and perennial favorite Mickey Mouse was the choice of 18 voters.
