MSNBC's Morning Joe Discusses Rand Paul and the GOP Moving Forward
Submitted by eduardo89 on Tue, 11/13/2012 - 13:24I like how they called him a "prominent, influential republican." Good to hear he's going to introduce legislation to relax federal marijuana laws. Hopefully by that it means more than just hemp.
I was shocked to hear he's going to push a pathway to citizenship for illegals!

I don't think Republicans
I don't think Republicans lost due to the immigration issue, I think they lost because there was very little difference between Obama and Romney. They should have run on liberty-freedom. Most people want "free" things. The only thing that can be offered that trumps "freebies" is liberty.
Good Idea!
My biggest problem with immigration reform is that you are going to end up with more illegals coming and using the welfare state to bankrupt us.ANY agreement must serve as a discouragement to others, lead to a tighter border and an assimilation that leads to jobs or enterprises, not welfare checks....
Ron Paul'08
running for senator he was pro pot, but
as soon as he was challenged on it by the competition he caved.
I'd like to see some of Ron's
I'd like to see some of Ron's other children step into politics. Let the Paul's become a true liberty dynasty.
Nice
I'd like to be Adopted by Ron, and run as RP (Robert Paul)
Your morals =/= my laws.
Never know . . . that pathway
Never know . . . that pathway to citizenship may be go home and come back legally and apply like anyone else.
Blessings )o(
It's pretty obvious that this is what should be.....
We know that just as soon as they come here, the democrats get them. That CAN NOT be sustained....
Ron Paul'08
I would support a pathway such as that.
Comprehensive reform means opening up immigration legally. The effect then of deporting current illegals as they are found is minimal (you might not even need to deport them)since they could come right back in. The important thing is that all imigrants should be on the record so that they cannot be abused by the types of business interests which do that, and to make sure they are paying taxes. My one caveat would be no nanny state benefits for the first several years after immigration/ legalization which should ensure that people don't come in for the welfare alone. All government benefits should require proper ID which proves citizenship of all beneficiaries of that benefit.

On the issue of pathway to citizneship
I have not seen the video, but on the issue of pathway to citizenship, there a a great number of illegal immigrants who DO NOT want to be citizens. This is a common misconception that illegal immigrants want to be citizens as most are VERY proud to be Mexican and have a lot of national pride in their motherland. They know that there is no money to be made there though so they come here to work and send a majority of their pay back to their families in Mexico. A pathway to citizenship is ok for those that want to be, but of course they have to get on the back of the line, etc.
This post nails it
I work in the restaurant industry, probobly one of the largest that hires illegal immigrants, and believe me, they are all not border jumpers, they are pond jumpers as well. Many many of them do not want citizenship, this is a paycheck for them. I will add, they are hard a ss working people and a ton of fun to work with.
