The Rand Paul Evolution: Rand Paul calls for 'path to citizenship' for illegals

Politico: Rand Paul calls for 'path to citizenship' for illegals: Call it the Rand Paul Evolution. He’ll push to loosen marijuana penalties, legalize undocumented immigrants and pursue a less aggressive American foreign policy.

In an interview with POLITICO, Paul said he’ll return to Congress this week pushing measures long avoided by his party. He wants to work with liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republicans to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for pot possession. He wants to carve a compromise immigration plan with an “eventual path” to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a proposal he believes could be palatable to conservatives. And he believes his ideas — along with pushing for less U.S. military intervention in conflicts overseas — could help the GOP broaden its tent and appeal to crucial voting blocs that handed Democrats big wins in the West Coast, the Northeast and along the Great Lakes.

“We have three big regions where we’re not competitive,” Paul said. “And we have to be competitive in those regions.”

Paul, 49, was elected on the tea party wave that fueled GOP landslide victories in 2010, often declaring on the campaign trail that he had a “message” from the tea party: “We have come to take our government back.”

But two years later, the tea party agenda has stalled in Congress, and House Republicans who ran on that purity platform in 2010 began to tout bipartisan compromises with Democrats in 2012. Nationally, the GOP recognizes it has a demographic problem from New England to the Southwest it needs to correct ahead of the 2014 midterm elections and the next White House race in 2016.

Sellout!

Rand Paul is a SELLOUT!

I have good news for all of you open border Libertarians...

You don't have to do a thing.

The blurring of national boundaries (especially the one between the U. S. and Mexico) is the one part of the neo-Libertarian political agenda that will continue to enjoy the enthusiastic support of the globalist political establishment.

The neoconservative/Republican leadership will continue to provide intentionally anemic and misplaced resistance to the immigrant invasion (e.g. national I.D. cards, electronic fences, etc.) that at best are multi-billion dollar boondoggles or which actually undermine the liberty of the American people.

So relax.
The CFR has your back.

bump it baby!

The only legitimate borders...

are those on private property.

You have a right to deny access to your own property, but not that which you do not own.

Government doesn't have a right to draw up arbitrary lines and restrict movement, because government does not have a right to exist, and does not rightfully own the land which it claims ownership of.

A thief has no right to posses the land he has stolen, the State is a gang of thieves writ large.

"The State is a gang of thieves writ large." - Murray Rothbard

Introducing people to liberty through coercion?

The United States corporatcracy has no legal or moral authority to restrict or prohibit the inherent right to live, work and travel unmolested. These things are natural extensions of self-ownership--an individual can and should be the sole steward of himself. Nationalism has blinded us from reality and contradicts the premise of this movement. The idea of liberty is not confined within invisible boundaries.

The reason many (not all) come is because they know they will be taken care of. If we really want to solve the economic problem associated with this, we've got to end the welfare state. Keeping people out won't do the trick; we've got to cease incentivizing their passage into this country at the expense of those who pay (are coerced out of) a portion of their wage to the State.

"The rich man writes the book of laws the poor man must defend, but the highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men."

Oooopsy... a few corrections...

GIBBERISH:
"The United States corporatcracy"
TRUTH:
Dunno exactly what is meant by this, but the United States Of America has EVERY RIGHT AND DUTY to preserve and defend her borders from trespassers... same job your front door does. However...croni-capitalists ("corporatcracy") LUUUUUUV illegal employees and HATES borders.

GIBBERISH:
"has no legal or moral authority to restrict or prohibit the inherent right to live, work and travel unmolested."
TRUTH:
America's Constitutional Liberty is the legal and moral authority. I DO NOT HAVE THE INHERENT RIGHT to go WHEREVER I PLEASE - which is NOT "liberty," but license. License is the objective of spoiled little brats, who wish to do anything their little hearts desire, sans ANY CONSEQUENCE. THIS IS NOT "INALIENABLE RIGHTS" or "liberty."

FALSE:
"These things are natural extensions of self-ownership--an individual can and should be the sole steward of himself."
TRUTH:
Again, you are describing LICENSE... not Liberty. Very selfish. Childish. Many authoritarians are also "sole stewards of themselves," WHILE CRUSHING THE PROPERTY AND RIGHTS OF OTHERS.

GIBBERISH:
"Nationalism has blinded us"
TRUTH:
America is swiftly moving into a GLOBALIST state of mind... which is SMASHING INDIVIDUAL LIBERTY - the OPPOSITE of your BS assessment.

GIBBERISH:
"contradicts the premise of this movement."
TRUTH:
The core of "the movement" is AMERICAN LAW. Constitutional LAW, which best protects INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Your "premise" protects NOTHING and invites authoritarianism.

HALF TRUTH:
"The idea of liberty is not confined within invisible boundaries."
WHOLE TRUTH:
The idea of liberty MUST BE PROTECTED BY NATIONAL LAW. I'm quite sure the "idea" of liberty was alive and well in Soviet Gulags... but without national law to acknowledge and preserve it... it does little good.

CORRECT:
"The reason many (not all) come is because they know they will be taken care of. If we really want to solve the economic problem associated with this, we've got to end the welfare state. Keeping people out won't do the trick; we've got to cease incentivizing their passage into this country at the expense of those who pay (are coerced out of) a portion of their wage to the State."
TRUTH:
This reenforces the necessity of LAW. "Shuddas" and cuddas" don't really preserve national sovereignty all that well. Illegal aliens HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO MOVE FREELY OVER THE BAST FEW DECADES. The results of "moving freely" speak for themselves.

The U.S. Constitution

The Constitution has little to do with promoting activities among the citizenry and way too much in the way establishing federal jurisdiction. However, even as the Constitution (1788) was an overreach of federal power fulfilling the statist dream, there still were no legal restrictions concerning immigration until the Page Act (1875), nearly 100 years after the Declaration of Independence. Citizenship requirements, though supremacist, enacted in the 1790's were so to establish residency, but the immigration laws decades later were put forth purely out of institutionalized racism.

In my opinion, saying that "Constitutional Liberty" grants the federal government "legal and moral authority" in this area is equivalent to saying that the Revenue Act (1862) grants the Treasury Department the legal and moral authority to take a percentage of an individual's wages. After all, it is Amurrika, dude. Amurrika.

Based on your defense of the "necessity" of "national law" in order to "acknowledge and preserve liberty," I am left with the impression that you are a nationalist. I am not.

P.S. You put words on my screen. I never said an individual be permitted to trespass. I recognize property rights. But who owns the borders? Who owns the coastlines? It's not you or I.

P.S. #2 I misspelled "corporatocracy" in my original comment.

"The rich man writes the book of laws the poor man must defend, but the highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men."

A great question for your average hannity/o'reilly fan

To try and turn a light on,ask them this:"If the federal government is trying to "protect us from terrorists",why do they refuse to secure our borders?"

About immigration from the

About immigration from the article:

Paul plans to inject himself into the middle of the GOP’s emotional immigration debate in the wake of Romney losing swing states with heavy Latino populations like Florida, Colorado and Nevada. Paul is working on a novel plan that he says would “assimilate” many of the 12 million illegal immigrants currently in the country. Those individuals, he said, could apply for legal status, but immigration would then be clamped down in the interim. He also says his plan would toughen security at the border.

“I want to show what conservatives would or can accept,” he said in describing his plan. “If we assimilate those who are here, however they got here — don’t make it an easy path for citizenship. There would be an eventual path, but we don’t make anybody tomorrow a citizen who came here illegally. But if they’re willing to work, willing to pay taxes, I think we need to normalize those who are here.”

Paul said the “trade-off” would be “not to accept any new legal immigrants while we’re assimilating the ones who are here.” Asked if he is concerned about the ripple effect that could cause around the world, Paul said the details over which countries would be affected are still in the works.

alright rand get those votes!!!

sadly, he'll get way more votes just with his "good looks" than Ron Paul got with his integrity.

But...

he will never have mine. His public sellout... and now amnesty, illustrate EXACTLY WHY we need to discard the leftist republican party NOW!

NWO

Immigration is a tool they are using to end our sovereignty and bring about the North American Union. They created the EU and now they want the NAU. Mass immigration collapses wages and weakens the political power of the middle class. Open borders is what it's all about.

Yes

. I'm for private property borders don't get me wrong. Not for statist borders tho.

Freedom to travel is all well

Freedom to travel is all well and good, but you can't have a country without borders. No country = No Constitution.

Good, we don't need a country

Private property is enough :_)

Would you expect the UN to

Would you expect the UN to uphold your property rights?

And don't forget...

Romney's (Rand's buddy) talk about NORTH AMERICAN "energy independence." Catch that? NOT American independence. He used that NAU language for a few weeks, then quickly dropped it.

Love Rand! Tax the immigrants by making them legal! finally!

They already get free medical care so any arguement about how we will have to give them more free money for more medical care is not thinking clearly. They get it regardless right now. So lets at least tax these people, and stop breaking up families trying to find a better future. The notion that they are taking jobs is also nonsense. Who's to say that they won't create more jobs by creating more small businesses? We are all immigrants anyways, except the native americans. did the native americans think we came over to steal their jobs? probably, but eventually we started creating businesses and jobs. I don't understand anyone's frustration to immigration as it seems ironic that we went through the same process a hundred to two hundred years ago. This was the one issue i didn't agree with Ron Paul on. I think i might like Rand Paul more the Ron to be honest. regarding him endorsing romney, no one will remember or care in six months. so stop whining.

Ask the Native American

Ask the Native American Indians how uncontrolled immigration worked out for them.

Ooooops... more corrections...

NONSENSICAL:
"They already get free medical care so any arguement about how we will have to give them more free money for more medical care is not thinking clearly."
CONSISTENCY:
So, ANY crime that's prevalent... should be wiped from the books? NICE! It'll be great to not worry about the thousands of speeding tickets that are written every day!!!!!!!

LIE:
"stop breaking up families trying to find a better future."
TRUTH:
WE ARE NOT BREAKING UP FAMILIES, ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS ARE PUTTING THEIR FAMILY STRUCTURE IN DANGER. And when illegal alien criminal parents are deported... THEY TAKE THEIR ILLEGAL ALIEN FAMILY WITH THEM! See? NO "break up." And they are not seeking "a better future," they are EXPLOITING AMERICA'S DISGUSTINGLY CORRUPT GOVERNMENT AND WELFARE STATE.

LIE:
"The notion that they are taking jobs is also nonsense."
TRUTH:
Illegal aliens are poaching MILLIONS of jobs in our 20+% UNEMPLOYMENT!!!!!

NONSENSICAL GIBBERISH:
"We are all immigrants anyways"
TRUTH:
I was born in America, as where my parents and grand parents. NONE OF US ARE "IMMIGRANTS" NOR ILLEGAL ALIEN CRIMINALS.

SELECTIVE TIMELINE GIBBERISH:
"except the native americans. did the native americans think we came over to steal their jobs?"
SELECTIVE TIMELINE GIBBERISH OBJECTIVE:
Propagandists will use this argument, WITHOUT TRACKING FURTHER BACK to native American tribes stealing land or Aztecs stealing land, etc, etc. The "white man" is ALWAYS the villain in their MANGLED history, to justify today's criminal behavior.

FALSE:
"regarding him endorsing romney, no one will remember or care in six months. so stop whining."
TRUTH:
Most WILL NEVER FORGET. I will be around to remind them.

Surely Rand can see how

Surely Rand can see how voting and election fraud was used to prevent Ron Paul was scoring higher numbers. Therefore can he not see that Obama did not win by the will of Americans but by contrivance and the lack of GOP base turnout. If I were running for office I sure wouldn't want Rand Paul as my endorsement running on a liberty ticket. He sounds more and more like a politician. I don't know what he stands for only what he says he stands for.

when rand was asked at the convention

about the treatment of his dad and his supporters he'd acted like he knew nothing about it. brushed it off. sickening.

only clint eastwood had the stones to mention the word libertarian in his speech. rand followed GOP orders, again, sickening.

America is BROKE!

America cannot take care of its own muchless illegal aliens. We cannot feed them nor house them nor educate them nor give them healthcare for free while Americans are losing their shirts.Rand Paul is turning into bad news IMHO.

Throughout history,

Throughout history, governments and the ruling class have looked for scapegoats to blame for the problems of a place. The Romans blamed Christians. The Nazis blamed the Jews. The scapegoats are often people viewed as "outsiders" in some ways: foreigners, immigrants, and people of a different race, ethnicity, or religion. We have two giant social programs that go to the elderly, who are disproportionately white, Republican, and wealthy, that are unsustainable and will bankrupt this country. Not to mention an out of control military-industrial complex that again, disproportionately benefits white, wealthy Republicans. Those three things are the most expensive items in the budget. And let's not even talk about the Federal Reserve that certainly is not a boon to poor immigrants. All of these things dwarf the problems caused by immigration, even if you ignore offsetting benefits. These are problems that neither party (save for a few people like Ron and Rand Paul, Justin Amash, etc) is serious about fixing. Yet, for some reason, immigration seems to get certain people quite a bit more riled up than all of those other things I mentioned. And that's an indication that the scapegoating is working. Distract from the real issues. It's the name of the game for these politicians.

Oooopsy...

Actually there's not a word of truth in your comment. Our greasy, corrupt Central Government Planning republican/democrat (same thing) politicians... ARE PROTECTING THESE INVADING, CRIMINAL ILLEGAL ALIENS AND KICKING THE FACES OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND THE LAW THAT DEMANDS DEPORTATION AND ENFORCEMENT HAPPEN NOW!!!!!!!! This, of course, is TREASON!!!!!!!!

The laughable contradiction of claiming "scapegoating"... ONLY TO THEN SCAPEGOAT "disproportionately white," is PURE IDIOCY. WHAT CORRUPT GOVERNMENT'S DO... IS DIVIDE AND CONQUER!!!!!!!! As you have perfectly illustrated. You have FALSELY MORPHED America's DISGUST with illegal immigration... into some sort of white vs. brown thing, as is typically done by dividers. Only with the rise of COLOR-BLIND Constitutional Liberty, this DECEPTION is becoming rather difficult to sell, these days.

Unbridled illegal immigration is national suicide. It negatively effect EVERY ASPECT OF SOCIETY: healthcare, crime, education, budgets, language, culture, societal cohesion, standards of living, housing, environment, law, liberty, property rights, etc, etc.

Brother Winston Smith

The r3VOLution is NOT republiCAN.

Illegals aren't scapegoats....

Just because some people see them as A problem does not mean we see them as THE problem.

Just because we are anti-immigration does not mean we are anti-immigrant.

Like the endless wars they are yet another tool used by the insiders to drain our treasury and undermine our sovereignty.

Your comment (like most of the responses to anti-immigration sentiment) puts words in our mouths, assumes motives that we do not have, and refutes arguments we do not make.
