The Rand Paul Evolution: Rand Paul calls for 'path to citizenship' for illegals

Politico: Rand Paul calls for 'path to citizenship' for illegals: Call it the Rand Paul Evolution. He’ll push to loosen marijuana penalties, legalize undocumented immigrants and pursue a less aggressive American foreign policy.

In an interview with POLITICO, Paul said he’ll return to Congress this week pushing measures long avoided by his party. He wants to work with liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republicans to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for pot possession. He wants to carve a compromise immigration plan with an “eventual path” to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a proposal he believes could be palatable to conservatives. And he believes his ideas — along with pushing for less U.S. military intervention in conflicts overseas — could help the GOP broaden its tent and appeal to crucial voting blocs that handed Democrats big wins in the West Coast, the Northeast and along the Great Lakes.

“We have three big regions where we’re not competitive,” Paul said. “And we have to be competitive in those regions.”

Paul, 49, was elected on the tea party wave that fueled GOP landslide victories in 2010, often declaring on the campaign trail that he had a “message” from the tea party: “We have come to take our government back.”

But two years later, the tea party agenda has stalled in Congress, and House Republicans who ran on that purity platform in 2010 began to tout bipartisan compromises with Democrats in 2012. Nationally, the GOP recognizes it has a demographic problem from New England to the Southwest it needs to correct ahead of the 2014 midterm elections and the next White House race in 2016.

ILLEGALS SHOULD FOLLOW THE RULE OF LAW!

We all know t hat they want everything for free! You can pretend to give it to them then, DON'T! I WOULD LIKE ENFORCEMENT!!! There is an invasion!! People who live in California know!!! Americans are leaving the state in record numbers because of the invasion. This issue PISSES me off!!! We have to conform to them because NOBODY WILL ENFORCE THE LAWS!!! CRAP!!!! NO WAY!!! I'm upset with Rand, we know the country is now just about officialy over because of this kind of talk, they will keep hopping the border. Disgusting country we live in!!! I'm tried of the aliens RUNNING OUR LIVES, TAKING OUR MONEY STEALING OUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS!!! They did this to both my mother and father!!!And my family is still fighting this!!! Illegals used their SS and IRS claiming my parents owe 50,000 in taxes. And Juan was working in construction stole my parents SS. SICK!!!!!!! To pretend to make them legal THEN DON'T!!! The only way, then DEPORT ALL illegal invaders. IF our government would say, there are no longer any benefits for illegals, no more healthcare, no more free education, they would leave, THEN get rid of the BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP! ASAP!!!

Rand Wants to Win. +1

This move could help us get the California legislature back

The anti immigrant vibe gave the democrats 2/3 control of the state legislature, allowing the democrats to raise taxes on a whim now. They crucified republican assembly liberty candidate Pedro Rios over this:

http://www.kget.com/news/local/story/Assembly-candidate-sets...

Oooops...

California is a SPLENDID EXAMPLE of what will happen to the rest of the nation with the official UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER of the violent invasion.

(Oh... and there is NO "anti-immigrant vibe," there is a PRO LAW ENFORCEMENT DEMAND!!!!!) Deceptive language is the first sign of a losing argument. But then again, might makes right, right? Soon, if EPIC SELLOUT RAND gets his MORONIC wish... "argument" will cease to matter... kinda like California.

Brother Winston Smith

The r3VOLution is NOT republiCAN.

Pro law enforcement is not a

Pro law enforcement is not a good thing in my opinion if the law is not just. People who support the War on Drugs are pro law enforcement. And I'll tell them to go to Hell if they use that argument on me.

Ooopsy....

No, the federal "War on Drugs" is illegal. Immigration law enforcement IS ONE OF THE FEW DUTIES OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HAS!

Not related.

Try again?

Brother Winston Smith

The r3VOLution is NOT republiCAN.

Even if the federal war on

Even if the federal war on drugs was ended, there would still be state laws making it illegal. The point stands

The liberty position is open

The liberty position is a more open border policy. Those of you who say close the borders so there is no welfare redistribution to illegals are using the same logic Ann Coulter uses when she and Hannity say no drugs because it increases welfare. I'm not crazy about this area of liberty either, but we all know liberty has to be defended across the board.

One serious mistake some people are making right now is this. The reason we didn't vote for Romney has very little to do with libertarian positions on gay marriage, weed, and immigration. For me, it had everything to do with a credible plan of reducing spending, and working toward actually serious monetary and military reform. The social issues are a nice bonus, but the heart of Libertarianism in the Ron Paul movement, in my opinion, is the economic issues. The GOP has no credibility on bailouts and spending, but the lip service is there for what it's worth.

"Where liberty is, there is my country." -Benjamin Franklin

Oooopsy... more corrections...

The Liberty position is a door bell, like it or not.

HALF TRUTH:
"Those of you who say close the borders so no welfare redistribution to illegals"
WHOLE TRUTH:
UNCONSTITUTIONAL "welfare" is but ONE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCE of America's invasion. Education, employment, culture, law, healthcare, safety, sovereignty, private property, etc, etc... ALL SUFFER.

PERSONALITY BRIDGING:
"...are using the same logic Ann Coulter uses when she and Hannity..."
PERSONALITY BRIDGING OBJECTIVE:
Deceptive people who cannot successfully debate, will often FALSELY attach their target to unpopular, UNRELATED individuals - like Coulter and Hannity, who are fake-conservative leftists.

CONTRADICTORY GIBBERISH:
"I'm not crazy about this area of liberty either, but we all know liberty has to be defended across the board."
CONTRADICTION:
What you are describing is LICENSE, not "liberty." License STRIPS ALL "DEFENSE" AWAY and DOES NOT respect OTHERS, nor recognize limitations. Liberty has LAW that PROTECTS OTHERS Liberty. A nation's immigration LAW achieves this for a nation. And State borders, county, private property lines, etc, etc... right down to my front door bell and the LAW that compels people to ding-dong, BEFORE ENTERING.

FALSE PAIRING:
"marriage, weed, and immigration."
TRUTH:
Homosexual "marriage" and weed are NOT federal issues. Immigration enforcement IS A FEDERAL DUTY!!!!!!! Although, States have EVERY RIGHT AND DUTY TO ENFORCE THE LAW ALSO.

RIDICULOUSLY FALSE:
"The social issues are a nice bonus, but the heart of Libertarianism in the Ron Paul movement, in my opinion, is the economic issues."
TRUTH:
The CORE of the Ron Paul movement IS LAW!!!!!!!! CONSTITUTIONAL LAW!!!!! Tea Party co-opters FALSELY claimed the same of the Tea Party - which was partly fueled from the Minuteman Movement and America's LOUD, LOUD REJECTION OF THE TREASONOUS AMNESTY attempted a few years ago.

Eisenhower Dealt With Immigration Successfully

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html

Under Eisenhower's leadership illegal migration dropped 95 percent by the late 1950s.

Farmers and ranchers in the Southwest had become dependent on an additional low-cost, docile, illegal labor force of up to 3 million, mostly Mexican, laborers.

This illegal workforce had a severe impact on the wages of ordinary working Americans, driving up profits for those who hired illegal labor.

Profits from illegal labor led to the kind of corruption that apparently worried Eisenhower.

In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph "Jumpin' Joe" Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, to secure the border. It worked... and powerful people who benefited were very unhappy. When Ike left office they dismantled border security and regained access to a flood of cheap labor.

"One resists the invasion of armies; one does not resist the invasion of ideas" Victor Hugo

The way I see it

if you make it here, good luck, god bless, and don't commit violent crimes. I work with alot of illegals, they are hard working (much harder working than any teen kid these days that should be in their positions) and they just want to make money to take care of their family back home, and to buy enough booze. I ask myself, what would I do? I would do the same dam thing.

I am all for border enforcement, but the feds effed up for decades, the people that made it here cannot be kicked out, it is just not feasable, plus, the small business owners who hire these guys for cash are not going to let them go, and remember, politics is local.

You seem naive

And...

... "they just want to make money to take care of their family back home, and to buy enough booze."

"Back home"? What does that mean except that they have no loyalty to this country or interest in assimilation?

"Buy enough booze"? Yeah you respect them alright. LOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who finds

Am I the only one who finds latinas extremely attractive?

Nope. Definitely not the only

Nope. Definitely not the only one ;)

If you restricted all immigration to WOMEN...

... ages 14 to 22 and deported all of the males, your argument might have relevance.

******************************
The Virtual Conspiracy

My argument? You don't

My argument? You don't seriously think I base my political philosophy or position on immigration based on what kind of women I find attractive? That comment wasn't mean to be an argument for or against anything

I don't care if half of

I don't care if half of Mexico comes over, as long as they're not getting free stuff from the government. Let's let them in (provided they pass a health exam), let them work, hang out, whatever. Just no freebies. We have enough leaches here already.

Our Law Of The Land Has Been Ignored For Many Years...

...and that is the crux of the problem in america. We need to observe, follow and enforce the U.S. Constitution...period.

We have enough laws, regulations, etc...Lets get back to following the road map...

I support Amnesty

Am I the only one who likes Rand MORE because of this?

I have always been for more or less open borders. I see illegal immigration as a victimless crime. To the objection that some of them commit crimes, I would bring up that libertarians are also against drug laws, and some people who use drugs comit crimes. When someone commits violence or force against another, that's a crime. But peaceful immigration, like peaceful drug use? Doesn't make sense for a libertarian to be against that.

Trespassing without permission can be a crime, but libertarians should really only see that is valid when it comes to private property. Other than that, how can you tell someone where he or she can walk?

The fact that some of them use social services is a stupid reason to restrict immigration. Just get rid of the social services!

The fact that there's all these drug problems at the border is a stupid reason to restrict immigration. Just legalize drugs!

Personally, my girlfriend is the daughter of illegal immigrants. They benefited from Reagan's amnesty. Without that, they wouldn't be here to this day.

"I see illegal immigration as a victimless crime."

http://www.ojjpac.org/memorial.asp

http://www.examiner.com/immigration-reform-in-national/dave-...

Take PARTICULAR NOTE of the third-world BARBARITY of these victimless crimes...

Example: On October 30, Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested Elmer Alexander Esquivel Ramos, 33, after he allegedly beat and raped a 72-year-old woman as she slept in her bed.

Quieres mas?

Another example:
On Sunday, Harnett County sheriff's deputies arrested Jose Trinidad Soto Sanchez, 21, and Jose Juan Alverez, 28, after they reportedly raped a 17-year-old girl and shot her multiple times.

Quieres mas?

Another example:
On Wednesday, police in Garland arrested Bernardo Mondragon-Guzman, 41, for the alleged repeated sexual abuse of a 10-year-old boy. The rapes reportedly went on for more than a year.

Quieres mas? O... suficiente? Bienvenidos a la THIRD WORLD, NO?

Did you even read the rest of

Did you even read the rest of his post? These people weren't just guilty of illegal immigration. They committed other crimes. Which they should be punished for. Crossing an imaginary line? Not so much. The EXACT same argument is used by drug warriors; "look at all these drug users who commit crimes, therefore we must ban drugs!" Does it make any difference for those victims whether their attacker was a citizen or legal or not? Where does this logic end? Blacks commit violent crimes at a much higher rate than whites - should we start deporting all blacks? Heck, let's get more to the point - men commit an overwhelming amount of violent crime compared to women - maybe females should kick out all men? It would reduce crime rates wouldn't it?

Only unpatriotic utopians support open borders.

Rand is not supporting open borders. He's proposing we give law-abounding illegals here a pathway to citizenship in return for putting a temporary halt on all immigration and tightening border security to make sure we never have millions of undocumented aliens ever again.

Who are you to determine what

Who are you to determine what is and isn't patriotic? Some people consider Ron Paul supporters unpatriotic

More to the point, I wouldn't say I support completely open borders, in that I'm okay with having an immigration system where immigrants are checked for criminal history, etc before coming here, but such a system wouldn't be very burdensome or expensive, allowing those who wanted to come here to do so. The reason people move here illegally is because of how difficult it can be to do so legally. If you remove that, there wouldn't be millions of undocumented people

I completely agree with your position

on immigration. Supporting open borders however, is unpatriotic because that position undermines American workers. A patriot puts the needs, wants, and desires of his fellow countrymen above the needs, wants, and desires of foreigners. If a third-world country has open borders, it doesn't affect much, if a first-world country has open borders, the third world will move there en masse. Take Italy and France for example. They haven't had open borders, but, they had a very loose legal immigration system towards Eastern Europeans. As a result, hundreds of thousands of Romanians and Bulgarians started flooding in. Many of those Eastern Eutopeans found that the land of plenty wasn't do plenteous after all and had to take to begging or stealing in order to survive. Others took Yao washing windows at traffic lights, making less or about the same than they did in their countries. Obviously, the Italian and French governments couldn't leave thousands of them homeless, si, public housing was built off of the backs of native workers.

Sweden has aloose immigration system and 50% of their immigrants are unemployed according to a Swedish economist Steffan somebody, cited by Tom Woods in "Rollback." Switzerland has a very tight immigration system and their economy is certainly the better for it. Mild immigration is a net plus during a mediocre economy like ours now and a boon during a booming economy like ours at the turn of the 20th century. But, even during the era of the statue of liberty, we didn't just have open borders and let anybody and everybody in from any country in the world. To advocate such IS unpatriotic because it puts the well-being of foreigners above the well-being of naturalized and native-born Americans.

You don't call it amnesty,

You don't call it amnesty, but someone like Tancredo would, of course. I'm glad Rand is moving away from the Trancredo policies and more to a middle ground. I'm aware it's not full amnesty.

Oooopsy...

No... ANYTHING THAT ALLOWS ILLEGAL ALIENS TO CONTINUE LIVING IN AMERICA, IS AMNESTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother Winston Smith

The r3VOLution is NOT republiCAN.

I do call it amnesty.

Supporting amnesty and open borders are two different things. Btw, I have no idea wha Tancredo's position is.

...in other words...

AMNESTY.

Brother Winston Smith

The r3VOLution is NOT republiCAN.

Absolutely!!!

Amnesty for law-abiding, illegals here over a temporary period. When that period is over, deport every illegal found.
