Cornel West: Obama a 'Rockefeller Republican in Blackface'

"In a recent interview on Democracy Now!, ex-Princeton professor and frequent Obama critic Dr. Cornel West lashed out against the president as well as pundits Michael Eric Dyson, Melissa Harris-Perry and Rev. Al Sharpton.

West called Obama a "Rockefeller Republican in blackface" and said Dyson, Harris-Perry and Sharpton were all "for sale."

I love Cornel West. I may

I love Cornel West. I may disagree with him on a lot of economic issues, but he is not reserved about telling the truth.

If accurate, this is quite an

If accurate, this is quite an 'about face' for West, who has regularly called for unity behind Obama, at least on the few times I've heard him in passing as he voiced his opinion on the Tavis Smiley radio show.

Personally, I believe one needs to listen to people one may not agree with simply to understand point of view. It helps to find common ground, or failing that, it gives one exposure to prevailing counter-arguments.

He's been talking about Obama

He's been talking about Obama in this fashion for years. He was supposed to run against Obama in a Democratic primary, but I don't know what happened to that.

The times I've heard him

The times I've heard him talk, he expressed some mild disagreements, but nothing worth noting. He is also socially and economically on the wrong side of the fence, from my perspective.

I have heard West refer to Obama as a "black mascot for Wall Street".
