Drudge Plays Up Secession Talk: "Movement Explodes"

Drudge front page screen grab, November 14th 10am ET:

States secession movement

Less than a week after a New Orleans suburbanite petitioned the White House to allow Louisiana to secede from the United States, petitions from seven states have collected enough signatures to trigger a promised review from the Obama administration.

By 6:00 a.m. EST Wednesday, more than 675,000 digital signatures appeared on 69 separate secession petitions covering all 50 states, according to a Daily Caller analysis of requests lodged with the White House’s “We the People” online petition system.

A petition from Vermont, where talk of secession is a regular feature of political life, was the final entry.

Can't stop an idea whose time has come.

Time to liberate the states! Cut out the cancer before all states die.

even in the federalist papers our founders intended for this,

secession, to remain a state issue and a spectator sport for Washington. If D.C. wants to impose federal jurisdiction unilaterally without regards to States rights then they will isolate themselves into conformity or become despot in an attempt to control. Nonetheless the more indebted states will turn loyal to federal dollars while the rest of us re-invest in the people. Let those states run their people down... if they chose the economy of scale not fit for their liberties then let us show them what one looks like.

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

The 50 States became a limited, Constitutional Republic,

but retained their sovereignty, too. Nothing, legally, can be done by the federal government to force any of the 50 States to continue to participate as a member of the USA. Not one article of the Constitution mandates a State's indefinite inclusion, and the States needn't ask permission of anyone, including the U.N., to exercise complete independence. However, the States did, Constitutionally, accede to not establish pacts with other States or to become more than one State without the consent of each State's legislature and the approval of Congress. So, if secession is to become fully, and peacefully realized, then it would seem the citizens of a State must reconcile the matter through the State legislative process and declare complete independence from the USA which would then nullify the necessity to seek approval from Congress.

Continued elaboration on the point of secession is, obviously, keenly appreciated.

I know it will come to

I know it will come to nothing, but what the hell, I signed the petition for the succession of New Hampshire. What a wonderful thing if the highest, most intrusive level of government I had to deal with was Concord. And as for the debt the federal government has wracked up, neener, neener, feds! -- it'll be somebody else's problem.

seems like a temper tantrum

These are probably the same people who joined the Tea party despite loving social security, medicare, all of the wars, and still have never heard of the federal reserve. I guess even a bunch of misguided morons can do something cool occasionally.

Agreed

This reeks of the same stench of the co-opted Tea Party movement. I'm willing to bet this did NOT originate from the grassroots and has some serious influence from behind the scenes.

If it somehow avoided big influence from the folks at the DP, I doubt it's legit.

"The casualty of partisanship is objectivity."

Nonsense of petitioning the feds

1) It is the Constitutional right of a state to secede - asking the feds for permission is accepting the feds authority over the states that the feds don't legitimately have. The states created the federal government - and it wasn't done to beg the feds for everything .

2) The wrong side won the "Civil War", aka, The War of Northern Aggression. The North/feds have been, and are, treating us all as prisoners of war.

3) If Texas was successful in seceding I'd move - that's why the states exist - to provide a choice, rather than Big Brother only.

Have to look at it as a opportunity for peaceful separation.

Otherwise, it means the blue-bellies will invade again. And be sure they will kill more than Lincoln's 600,000 this time.

...

if you live in a liberal state, what would be the point of separating? you'd still be stuck with the same policies.

If a liberal state seceded,

If a liberal state seceded, those who believe liberal policies are advantageous would have a place in which to test their belief. Just like neocons would if one of their states would secede. And ditto libertarians......

Even someone with no particular opinion about what is the "best" political system, ought to champion secession movements for that simple reason; it allows many more systems to be tested.

I thought the Civil War

put an end to the idea that you can just secede from the Union. So long as others in the Union disagree... there will be conflict. Of course that would be Americans fighting Americans... instead of fighting everyone else out there... there may be some merit to all this after all! :(

This is a perfect way to

This is a perfect way to bring in a real third party voice. There should be a resurgence of the Democratic Republican party that was organized under Thomas Jefferson which was based on Anti-Federalism. It was all about limited federal government and states rights. I would imagine that it could gain quite a bit of traction. It sounds more legitimate than "libertarian" which seems to have become an offensive term to most folks who only get their information from talking heads on the left or right. The Democratic Republican party is as old as these United States. We might be able to get all of the sane people from the Democratic and Republican parties. The dems would be left with all of the whacko fiscal liberals and the repubs would be left with all of the whacko social conservatives. Problem solved.

Some of These People are so Mad at the Talk About Secession

It's almost as if they caught their wife/husband cheating on them and feel so betrayed that they want to banish them from their lives forever. A guy at work yesterday said that they can go and leave, but he'll never buy another thing from Texas if they do. It makes no sense to me. I told him that as long as they're trying to gain their freedom back and lead better lives by leaving, I had no problem with it. He talked about them as if they were all traitors.

Oh, is there a huge market

Oh, is there a huge market for "things from Texas" that I don't know about?

They said the same thing about Japan.

They are all no brains.

Mean, Mean, Mean

They are the most venomous people I have ever conversed with. They treat us like 3rd-class citizens. :(

This is a great PR stunt for

This is a great PR stunt for the liberty movement. Regardless if if pans out, everyone is talking about this.

In my poly sic class today we talked about secession and what is going on. We need to push this and say, follow the constitution or we're out. We then have the floor to discuss where the constitution is attacked.

PS- Why not start a independent citizen movement?

all the white house is going to do

is point the finger and play the racial and slavery card. Then Obama is going to blame his failures on others as he has always done. All his lemmings will fall in line and will obey their darling leader as they always have done unquestionably.

Once again the neocons are so predictable and playing right into another trap. Libertarians, Greens and constitutionalists will get roped in with these idiots and this country will fall further into Tyranny....

Unfortunately, they are

Unfortunately, they are already playing the race card.

I have a theory

I have a theory--hear it out, it's just a theory at this point. What if this secession is all a rouse. This is being played as the extreme anti-Obama Republicans wishing to secede, and the fact is that's the dominant population over most of the country.

Meanwhile they're putting out a ton of movies glorifying Abraham Lincoln, the man who went to war and suspended our Constitution and got a good rap simply because of the slavery issue (which he supported and would have kept if it were up to him).

I'm just thinking about those FEMA camps, all those millions of rounds of ammunition, and those rows of coffins they ordered up. I'm sure they'll need some excuse to use them...

Though I don't see how we can fight a civil war if we're going to bomb Iran. Unless perhaps it's sort of a one-two punch. Will the global elite have us bomb Iran into oblivion, then completely disband and destabilize the United States in a cataclysmic civil war?

Perhaps I watch too many movies.

So funny to me, this now has

So funny to me, this now has obviously become the new dividing issue meant to keep up bickering against each other. I think secession is perfectly valid, but I think it's being hyped up very very much. The White House will merely send out a blanket response repeating the same responses about the 14th amendment and slavery secession blah blah.

I love scanning comment sections on the web.

Im sorry but this

digital petition crapola is just that, crap.

Very Possible

But it sure does bring to light that this isn't just a fringe mood of American society or some throwback Jim Crow 'the South shall rise again!' slack jawed yokels any more....this is real, and BO needs to come to grips with it, sooner or later. But of course, that's how it's gonna be portrayed...

Ask yourself though, if it's a race issue, howz come this didn't happen during BO's first reign?

cant agree

it will be real when I sign a real pettition in jersey. and I will sign. This is nonsense, nothing backs this up.
