Government Media Complex, you

Government Media Complex, you heard it from him first.

YES!! My kids and I are watching this right now in OUR HOMESCHOOL!

Same here...

was excited to hear him mention homeschooling!

Homeschool History

What do you think of the Well-Trained Mind curriculum and Susan Wise Bauer History books, if you have ever used them? I am trying to find a decent history book to use for elementary school and am wondering what you use. Obviously at the higher levels, Ron Paul speeches and books would be a great primary source when we get there.

Since becoming involved in the liberty movement

I'm very particular about which history curriculum we use. At the outset here let me say that I am an evangelical Christian. Therefore, back in my Neocon days I would have gone with any Christian curriculum that upheld those views (which most do). Additionally, a majority of those same publishers support a strong federal government (though they do like to give lip service to the constitution); the "fact" that America is a "Christian nation" (really this is just code for what Dr. Paul said in the speech about using force to "make" someone moral - "that is authoritarian," he said); and other such egregious errors such as the view of Abraham Lincoln as hero, rather than the tyrant he was.

If your child is upper elementary (5th-6th grade), I wouldn't hesitate to use the Politically Incorrect Guide series for history - especially if you could do the books as read-alouds where you are able to explain things as you go. Children as young as seventh grade can understand Tom Wood's "Politically Incorrect Guide to American History" by themselves and should also be able to report on it. My 12 y.o. daughter just completed this book and then felt compelled to do her own further research and write a report on monetary inflation. The book is so well-written that every day she was excited about something she read. Also, I would suggest some of the Uncle Eric books by Richard Maybury for upper elementary - again as read-alouds for that age group. Currently this same daughter is reading "Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?" in that series - not because I'm "making her," but because she found her brother's book and wants to read it!

This leads me to tell you a final story. In high school my son read through the entire Uncle Eric series. This led to him becoming a Ron Paul supporter in '08 (though only sixteen at the time). In turn, he started to work on me! He would always tell me that I needed to check out Ron Paul, to which I would retort, "That kook?!" (Yes, I cringe at that now.) Unfortunately, it took me a couple of years to "get it" - even though I was the one who had him read the Uncle Eric books in the first place! But, truly, I give my son and the books by Richard Maybury credit for eventually leading me to embrace Dr. Paul's ideas. (And God, too, of course!) Anyway, just wanted to share that with you so you could see how powerful the right curriculum is in shaping and molding our children's belief systems.

Wisdom of Babes

That is a funny story! My teenager went to a private school. Early this year (before my "Enlightenment") she came home and told me that all the kids in her school support Ron Paul. My reaction was similar to yours: What is wrong with them?!!! But I really knew very little about him, except for smear tactics and tidbits.

I am now homeschooling the other four, but the next two are in Kindergarten and First Grade. I will make a note of the books you mentioned, so that I can start acquiring them for the future. Thanks!

Yes, History books are my main concern. I always knew they lied about certain things, such as JFK. But then over the past nine months I have come to find out that the standard ones don't tell the whole story about anything!

I homeschool

I might try that Politically Incorrect Guide one. Thanks for the tip!

Politically Incorrect Guide to the Civil War

My daughter and I read the Civil War book a while back. She used it for a report. When I read these kinds of straightforward accounts, I am amazed that I believed the lie for so long. This particular book focuses somewhat on how the Civil War was a war about states' rights, not slavery. It only makes sense. You aren't going to get a bunch of poor white southern boys to fight a war to protect rich plantation owners' right to own slaves.

i'm reading this book right now.

and i'm getting excited about it. i'll be starting next year. yay!

Get the ACTIVITY BOOK for maps and ideas for additional reading and crafts. WE LOVE IT. History is my son's favorite lesson.

We use Well Trained Mind as our core curriculum but it is HARD to do everything everyday. Especially when someone gets really into something they like.

PS My kids L-O-V-E Ron Paul. They think he's like a relative or something. Honestly.

Story of the World

Last week I just got the first Story of the World book and activity book, but we haven't started using them yet. I looked through them and was excited about what I saw! I have to gather some supplies and get organized before I start that book. We are finishing up a Seton 1st grade history book, which has been decent but I wanted something more. The ones I am homeschooling are in Kindergarten and First Grade, so I am just getting started. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Twitter Feed Tally

My Twitter feed has about 1 tweet about Ron Paul's speech to every 5 angry Republicans criticizing Obama's speech. Apparently I need to clean out my following list from my former neocon days!

surround yourself with good people

ditch the neocons. You'll be happier!

What kind ..

What kind of audience does he have? Is the place full? Half-full?

Maybe empty?

I asked the question in a comment below but, didn't get an answer. I guess we'll find out at the end of part one of his speech.

Anybody know when part 2 will be?

“It is the food which you furnish to your mind that determines the whole character of your life.”

I'm sitting in the laboratory in my white coat

Trying to wax up dentures with tears in my eyes. The speech is blaring and everyone around me is completely oblivious of course

This speech should be published into pamphlets

for sale and transcribed to PDF and ebook format for free distribution

Preemptive war is getting hammered now.

Good! Hammer away Ron Paul!

I think we are lagging the shit out of this site!

I think C-SPAN is used to streaming to like 5 people at the same time!

Ron Paul: Power Corrupts!

That's an understatement in D.C.

Ron used the phrase- "Anything that is peaceful"

This is from a book by the founder of the Foundation of Economic Eductation, Leonard Reed, who also wrote I, Pencil

In addition to his farewell

In addition to his farewell speech, he should command the floor for the next 8 hours!

I stole that and

tweeted it!

Be my guest!

Damn I guess I'll have to

Damn I guess I'll have to check the video out tonight. I'll prop the laptop on a table so the wife and I can watch it while we eat dinner (hopefully it will be available then). Very sad day to say the least.

Historic Speech

This is the kind of thing our children should be learning in history class. Hopefully one day they will. I know that is what we will be doing in our homeschool!

We all need to work together

and make this speech go SUPERNOVA VIRAL

"I am Troll fighter, number one"

I look forward to the video being posted

The buffering is driving me batty - I want to listen again without the constant hesitation. Sounds like he is going out with a bang - bless his soul!
