Petition STATE legislatures

Do both.. this is getting WAY more attention, than it would through your local state legislator.

I've been thinking about this a lot

I really have to wonder about the wisdom of these petitions.

Mind you, I'm not saying the states shouldn't secede, because I like having that option available. It is a right. But I have several concerns:

1) Since all of these petitions came up after Obama won the election, this looks too much like a knee-jerk rejection of the president. While Obama didn't deserve to be reelected, I fear that too many of these people don't have a real plan on how to better run their own state governments. There is no real plan, nor concrete list as to why they wish to secede (with very few exceptions). Basically, these are emotional reactions, not well-thought-out plans of action.

2) Going to the Federal government for permission is the wrong way to go about it. Not only does that impose the will of a few people of the state to determine the fate of the state (except in the lesser-populated states, in which a far higher percentage of people is needed to reach the 20,000 threshold), but these are matters for the citizens of each state to debate with each other on. Each state should vote for itself if it wants to secede. Then only if a clear majority of the citizens of that state wish to secede would it be fair to officially declare to the Federal government the state's intent to secede.

Granted, going that route would give corrupt officials more time to counter and manipulate the will of the people, but I think it'd be far more effective and wise than a knee-jerk rejection of Obama asking Obama to let them leave in peace.

If you are signing these

If you are signing these petitions please sign this one, it needs another 85 votes before it will show up on the public list. If you have face book then please promote it, or post links on other forums for it. Once it gets to 150 and shows up on the public list it will take care of itself.

I get the feeling that if I sign some online petition like this, I'm really just adding my name to a Federal proscription list...
