Diagnosed with ADD, In need of natural treatments.

I was just recently diagnosed with Attention deficit disorder (ADD). And of course the first thing they want to do is have me on pills. I'm looking for possible natural treatments that have helped those with it and if anyone could give me advice, that'd be great. I have known for quite a while something wasn't right and I have tried some herbs, changing diets a bit seeing what works better. I have even started running and exercising everyday as I have read that helps, but It just hasn't helped that much. I honestly dont want to put Meds like that into my body.. Just leads to more problems.. But, i am struggling with this. And trying to find something that helps in managing it. Would be glad to hear your opinions, thanks.

I'm sure someone addressed it but

ADD is an excuse to drug smart people. Smart people figure stuff out quick and then get bored. This isn't a problem for you, it's a problem for the social engineers that don't want people to think for themselves.

Don't be drugged. If you're forced to be in situations where you are bound to be bored bring a notebook, a pad, a phone, or just a list of ideas you want to explore. Use the time where the dumb people are being indoctrinated to your own use.

Do not drug yourself.

Do NOT see a mental health 'professional' unless you relish being on government lists.

Every smart person in the professional world has to sit through meetings where you figure out what some moron thinks needs to be explained for an hour which, if you didn't already know, you understand in 2 minutes. You have to figure out what to do for the remaining 58min. You just have to get used to it.

some weed. Don't know if it'll solve all your problems, but it'll sure make you feel better lol. Seriously though, keep your head up. You're making a good choice to look for alternative remedies other than pills.

magnesium supplementation may help

Considering that most Americans do not consume enough magnesium
to meet the measly US RDA (~400mg/day) and soil levels of magnesium have dropped 25% over the past 60 years due to over farming, you might consider taking a magnesium supplement combined with vitamin B6. Below is a recent review covering the existing evidence that magnesium may help improve attention.

BTW, beware of antiacids that function as protein pump inhibitors or H2 blockers as they prevent the absorption of magnesium. There are recent papers sounding the alarm in the medical literature, but this information is slow to trickle down to the public.

ADD is not disorder or disease. Most of us have it one one way, shape or form. it is normal. Don't sweat it. Eat natural, organic food, eliminate fluoride, drink non fluoridated water and lay off corn syrup laced soda pop and process foods.

This herb helps me

This herb helps me focus:

siberian eleuthero

It is cool stuff, it also is a stress reducer and regulates your adrenaline response. It is very good for working out and lifing, I think the Russians did some experiments with it a while back for their olympic team.

Also, if you have a boring desk job or have to sit for a long time put on a tech house mix or a deep house mix:

Here is one of my favorite youtube DJ's

Mixes are great becuase there is no breaks in the songs or a lot of lyrics to distract you. You just get into the groove and get work done. Some are even 3-4 hours long and you will be surpised how fast time goes by and how much you get done.

Also, dont watch TV. The rapid shifting from one scene to another and camera angles is horrid for your concentration. Reading for a half hour a day will help you learn to focus on one thing and it is good for your imagination.

We all share this eternally evolving present moment- The past and future only exist as inconsequential mental fabrications.

Do you have ADD when you're doing something you love?

Usually ADHD or ADD is code for: "We can't control him. He seems to do what he wants when he wants."

You were built to guide your own life -- look at the post below -- as soon as GODSFAVSON started doing what he loves: music etc.... his ADD suddenly became the non-issue that it is.

We weren't built to sit MOTIONLESS in classrooms and learn THEORY through our childhood -- we're jam PACKED full of energy! Wanting to go out and explore the world with our BODIES - touch everything - learn constantly. The school system we have is built to churn out good little prussian soldiers.

Just follow your passions.

What are YOU interested in? Don't ask anyone else -- what do you LOVE to do --
What are your feel-good hobbies?

A successful life is THREE-PRONGED:

1) Self Love
2) Self Reliance
3) Plenty of Feel-Good Activities that you participate in frequently. (i.e Mood Management)

Oh, and please notice that there are no coincidences in life:
Your Experiences will Always Match Your Mood.

"But, i am struggling with this."

Because you say so, or somebody else?

If it is you, I don't have any answers, but I will wish you well.

For *MILD* ADD symptoms

Try 1200-1400 Flaxseed Oil pills 2x day for 2 weeks, then 1 per day.

St. John's Wort helps, but you have to go 6 months on, 6 months off so you don't $%^& up your skin
Rhodiola extract might help
Kava kava if you can get it, but you have to go 6 months on, 6 months off so you dont @#$% up your liver
5-HTP might help
SAM-e might help

You don't need all of the above, but I'd recommend any 2 of the above in addition to the Flaxseed.

Personally, I'd add a garlic supplement to balance out your blood, but it's not necessary I guess. I also like the suggestion someone else made about going through a detoxification routine before you start.

All of the above are available commonly in stores or online

I always considered my ADD to be an asset.

It allows me to look at things from many different perspectives. But hey, thats just me.....

You might want to take a look at the GAPS program.

"This is an excellent program for healing and detoxifying the entire gi tract. It has been shown to be effective in cases of autism, ADHD/ADD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, depression and schizophrenia."

I am a TBI patient.
I was hit by a car head on.
That car was traveling at 80 mph.
State Police were chasing the driver.

I suggest you get a very viscous wild animal and keep it in the house.
You will focus like a laser.

After a few months you'll be fine.

The brain does something called shunting.

Works like a charm.

Get your ears checked...

Hi Freedom,'
Have you had past inner ear problems? Did you have ear problems, ear aches (as in many) or tube in your ears as a child? Do you have balance issues or any kind of "full" feelings in your ears, like way inside? If the answer to any of the above is yes, you may want to write back and let me know and also ask me if it was just a lucky guess or if I actually know something that may help.

See my Son's Story comments below.
He suffered a hearing loss at one year old and had "tubes" put in.

During his birth the umbilical was wrapped around his neck, resulting in a decrease in Oxygen flow.
He got saddled with a rough start, but is fine today.

Your comment is, to say the least, very intriguing, and I find the coincidence to be awesome in the possibilities.

Note; I strongly disagreed with the ADHD diagnosis when speaking to the doctors....THEY did NOT appreciate that, but I still argued with their "diagnosis", feeling it was too much a "cure-all" and false.

I self diagnosed myself with ADD some time back :-P
Reason: Extremely poor grades in college, extremely high scores in aptitude based exams...

I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism around the same time...

Took the helped, but only marginally...

Started doing what I composition, music videos, performance, artist management and I've never looked back...

Making a 5000 km bike trip over two weeks in December...

Embrace your ideas even if it sometimes feels you're chasing dragons and keep working on them...that is what I think helped me the most...

Since this post is a Year Old

It would be interesting to know how you were diagnosed.
My son was diagnosed as early as pre-school, after testing was conducted after his having suffered a loss of hearing, which lead to developmental/social problems. (he recovered his hearing,BTW)
He was also epileptic.
Tegretol was administered for that...which he "miraculously" grew out of (as an adult was accepted into the USMC, and is now a EMT).

CYLERT was prescribed for the ADHD, and although a stimulant, helped with his concentration, much the same as I like my coffee and cigarette in the morning (yeah, it does help).
Do you know that a fresh cup of coffee has 10 times the antioxidants of a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice?
It was brewed by the Egyptians..who also brewed...BEER!

NOTE: ADHD "sufferers" are statistically shown to be above-average in creativity and intellect, so GRANGER was correct when she "labeled" it a "blessing".

red dye 40 and others have been banned in some countries for this reason.

My cousin's son had that eliminated from his diet, along with substitutions for sweets (fruits..natural foods).

Elimination of foods with "additives" and all this was 30+ years ago.

But I particularly remember the mentioning of RED DYE.
It eventually resulted in the absence of "red M&Ms", until lately, seems that they've come up with a "new improved red-dye" LOL!

BTW, the boy, now an adult, has had a very successful career in film production, and is (in my observation) extremely intelligent.

I almost fell for this too...

I have been diagnosed with ADD myself and prescribed drugs. I don't take anything, and I am happier than ever. Personally, my problem was I was working at a job that I hated, doing busy work that was stupid without the freedom to make better decisions. I was working for an industry I despised (complex corporate litigation). How can you be expected to pay attention to something you find completely dis-interesting and unproductive? How can you be expected to slow down your mind to fit the pace of others around you? I don't have a disorder, I have an active mind and I LOVE IT now that I've learned to harness it instead of being frustrated by it.

Since I quit my job a little over a year ago I've:
- Organized a Music Festival
- Started an Organic Mushroom Farm
- Traveled all over the place
- Opened a Music Performance Venue
- Started a Marketing Company
- Spend more time with my family and friends
- Built a social jukebox system (

Sounds ADD right?

I don't (and you don't) have a disorder, but if you want to relax, this is what I've learned can be a huge help:

1. Meditation. Go to a quiet place, and take 15 minutes to clear your mind every morning and focus only on your breathing. When you mind drifts (which will happen almost immediately) bring it back to concentrating on your breath and keep doing it. Your mind will drift 1,000 times during this time. Keep bringing it back to your breathing. It's amazing what this alone can do to relax and focus yourself.
2. Get away from the noise. Go out into nature more often. Take a camping trip.
3. There are relaxing herbs you can use that really work. One thing I've found to be incredible is passion flower. It is seriously relaxing and works directly on your nervous system. Even can be used as a treatment for essential tremors and similar nervous system disorders.
4. DO WHAT YOU LOVE. This is the single most important thing. Find productive things that you enjoy. You will excel at these things and amazingly they don't produce stress like the things you don't like. The money will come if you're doing what you love and you are productive.
5. Do not accept that you are somehow broken. The moment you concede that your mind is somehow dysfunctional, it is dysfunctional. You can cripple yourself just with holding the wrong state of mind. You are more likely a curious and vigorous thinker than a poor sap with a chemical imbalance.
6. Eat healthy and exercise.
