Remarks On The “legality Of Secession” To Texas Nationalist Movement

Daniel Miller asked me to speak about the legality of secession or the legality of Independence if you prefer. I would like to thank him for the invitation. I was happy to accept, and very grateful that you are here. Now before I do, please indulge my description of a couple of my very favorite political cartoons. First there is the cartoon of a little mouse standing in front of a huge owl, talons extended and swooping down. All you see is the frontal of the fearsome owl and the back of the mouse is turned towards the reader—but the little mouse has his finger out in a very impolite gesture—essentially giving the bird to the bird, as it were. The caption reads: Last stubborn act of Defiance! I’m sure that mouse is a Mighty Rebel Mouse.
