Ready to leave Dodge (New York). I think we've settled on Montana. Any suggestions?

My husband and I have had it here. We're looking for better life for our children.

For years I wanted to get out of this country, but that really doesn't seem possible with a large family, so the next best thing is to find a better state to live in that is not as regulated, taxed, or communist-minded.

UPDATE:

Thanks to all who responded which helped us!

I think Montana is what we're looking at. Any suggestions? Our biggest challenges will be work (probably have to buy an existing business) and housing (because our family is very large).

I would move to Tennessee.

Northeast Tennessee. I am in Florida now and debating whether or not to leave. Property taxes and hurricane insurance are killing us. High crime and bad schools (we pay through the nose for private). Our city leans very liberal. It may be a losing battle here, though my husband wants to stay and fight politically. But I don't feel safe here if there is civil unrest.

Ann in Florida

What county?

What county or are you looking at? I'm interested in Tennessee as well, looking for one with a Constitutional Sheriff and lower property taxes. Weighing it against Kentucky. Property taxes are lower in Kentucky, it is the home to Rand Paul, but is also the highest florinated. Tennessee has no income tax

Mountain City looks

Mountain City looks interesting. Gatlinberg is probably a little too touristy and lots of traffic, but anywhere within 30 minutes drive looks decent, all the way up along the Smokey Mountains to the VA border.

Also inbetween Nashville and Knoxville in the Cumberland Plateau (middle Tenn).

Nashville

(Davidson county) is where I live. It's great here, except for our lame governor who is trying to push obamacare on us. Plenty of work available and if you live in an outlying county around Nashville, the property taxes are low. No state income tax, open carry with permit is legal, raw milk cowshares are legal, and nice friendly people. If you remember, Nashville flooded terribly in 2010. There was NO looting of any kind and no begging for fed help, we just took care of things ourselves. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFjaQoOdJvI

you need a permit?

to open carry?

Well...

it's called a carry permit, but the state recognizes your right to open carry or conceal. The vast majority conceal carry here.

Just got this email update

from Tennessee Campaign for liberty:

Thanks to overwhelming blowback from YOU the Citizens of Tennessee, in the form of calls, e-mails, and letters, Governor Haslam has squirmed and decided to wait on bringing Obamacare to Tennessee... for now.

The new decision date is mid-December when most people will be focused on various holiday celebrations, vacations, and family time. Governor Haslam plans to sneak an Obamacare Insurance Exchange into Tennessee during that time even though many other Republican Governors have rejected Obamacare on the state level.

Make no mistake, this fight is just beginning and will likely continue into the 2013 legislative session in early January. In fact there is already a bill drafted to prohibit this, not to mention prior existing law which already makes Governor Haslam's actions illegal.

Besides Haslam cowarding to President Obama and refusing to stand up to him like many other Republican Governors, he also keeps repeating two lies - 1) The Feds will implement an Obamacare Exchange if the state government doesn't, and 2) If the state government implements an Obamacare Exchange they will have control over it.

Now here is why his two talking points are outright lies -

1) There has been no federal money allocated for the Feds to setup or run an Obamacare Exchange. With a Republican controlled US House of Representatives, it is highly unlikely that any money will be allocated for this purpose. In fact Obama himself has said he prefers the state governments to implement his Exchanges so that the federal government doesn't have to.

2) Obamacare reads (Sec 1331 and Sec 1334) that the Feds have say over how any Obamacare statel-level Exchange is run. And other Governors have even admitted that their control over a state Obamacare Exchange is minimal. Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey even said that TN would have less than 10-20% control over an Obamacare Exchange if it were set up by the state government.

That's interesting

I'm confused then about what the tenthamendment center says on their map, I guess you know, you live there.
I would not want to live in the city. That is great that Nashville could pick up the pieces on their own without FEMA. I don't know if I remember hearing about it.

New Mexico is Number One?

In Federal tax revenue received per capita.

No wonder its such a great place.

Lots of luck.

Unfortunately, the collectivist virus has spread everywhere.

My only suggestion is live rural instead of urban if you can. As the future unfolds, safety will be found in independence from the system.

Liberty isn't given to us; it is taken by us, and if not, we will not have it.

NH is the most rural

NH is the most rural, forested state in America

by what measure?

Idaho has the largest area of wilderness in the contiguous states (Alaska wins overall.) We have ONE "large" city, and it is only 250,000. You may be correct on some technicality, but the entire east coast is densely populated in comparison with everything in the Intermountain west (east of the Cascades, west of the Rockies.)

Per sq. mile.

NH is among the five tiniest states in the nation which is why it can claim the number one spot over Alaska.

If I didnt have my daughter I would have left the country by now. I want to see South America and S.E. Asia.

Good luck!

Eastern NC. I would say that NC is in the top 10 most organized states for the Liberty Movement. Im a former NY'er and I know exactly how you feel.

lots of military targets in NC that are potential nuke zones. Only area of NC I'd consider is around the Smokey Mountains. Boone area looks interesting.

As I've been reading the book Strategic Relocation, the best areas are out west. Too many zombies per square mile in the east.

New Mexico!

Awesome state, libertarian republicans, awesome food, best place to raise a family, good economy, Gary Johnson was elected here..., and a state that swings towards political winds (a good thing for us, Ron Paul polled really well here against Obama, which meant that the country would have went towards him if he would have got the nomination) My mom is a realtor here, and we would be more than willing to show you around!

Yup. If I ever have to lose faith (God forbid !)

Yup.

If I ever have to lose faith (God forbid !) in California ... I'll no doubt look at how New Mexico is doing, then.

Peace.

New Jersey!

Just kidding.

One way to determine

where to reside is to figure out where liberty, freedom and an solid record of defending constitutional principals exists. While not easy to determine a reflection of the voters helps. With this knowledge I offer this.

You can break each state down even further by examining each district.

My current residence places me in Senate (F,F-), House (F)

I am considering Wyoming or Texas

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Good info!

Ideally

a liberty-minded state without the religious fundamentalism that sometimes goes along with that. I would have said New Hampshire before this election but our Southern quarter has been contaminated by statists from the rest of New England and our universities. The quality of life is great but may begin to decline soon.

The South is out for the above reasons. I say Montana, Colorado, or New Mexico. If you can tolerate the hippies, Washington and Oregon are great for a lot of other reasons.

RE: Statists

The "statist" problem is a problem that places everywhere in the country face.

Republicanism is hemorrhaging the party faithful, and as consequence losing influence in government. The Democratic Party has leveraged this opportunity to grow their party and as a result we see a decline in our political freedoms to vote for representatives. It is much easier to lose the party faithful than it is to restore the organization to it's former glory.

Colorado or New Mexico are blue states.

Come on now.

Really?

You do realize New Mexico swings right? We have a republican governor and republican state senate. I am from New Mexico and this state is a great choice. New Mexicans aren't fans of big government. Gary Johnson was elected here. The republican party leans libertarian here. Plus the food is awesome ;). The state is gorgeous and there is nowhere else in the world like it. A great choice for any liberty minded folk. We aren't blue though, we always have chosen the eventual winner. It's a way to see how the country is leaning. That's why I was excited when Ron Paul did very well against Obama. We are a belt way state. Message me if you want to know more.
