Ready to leave Dodge (New York). We're now looking at Maine. Any suggestions?

My husband and I have had it here. We're looking for better life for our children.

For years I wanted to get out of this country, but that really doesn't seem possible with a large family, so the next best thing is to find a better state to live in that is not as regulated, taxed, or communist-minded.

We originally chose Montana, but we now think it is too far. Work is still a problem. Any suggestions will be very helpful!

You'll also want a state where liberty minded people will gather

Joel Skousen has thought this through more than just about anyone and he has a book called "Strategic Relocation" which takes into consideration things like if a catastrophe happens will you be stuck on some freeway and run out of gas when there are no goods in the stores. There is now a video version that is a companion to his book and it will give you all kinds of options including things you didn't know to ask. Watch that here:

I've seen that a lot of people mentioned this. I ordered a copy and can't wait until I get it.

Go To New Hampshire For The Free State Project

Join the Free State Project and help them advance Liberty in our country. They are trying to get 20,000 people (They have over 13,000 now) to move to New Hampshire (They say it is the most free state in the union) and make it more libertarian so the state can be a role model for the nation. I highly sugesst you move there, Ron Paul endorses the project.

Tax man cometh...there is nowhere to run nowhere to hide

I know you would like to stay in US, but if you can shave net assets under 676K to escape too much exit tax - New Zealand is a good choice. You will find that 600K US$ feels like 2 million there, and it is quite peaceful, generally great quality of life.

I am moving my business there, and I commit to hire local labor, what a deal, I say.

"If you feeling cold I'll tax the heat, if you talk a walk I'll tax your feet - I'm the taxman" George Harrison

"This isn't what the govern meant"

"Win the crowd and you will win your freedom"

^^Too far away for most americans..Lots of immigration headaches

...only a few hand selected will be allowed entry....New Zealand is unfeasible for about 99% of us...

tanks anyway!

THEY'RE Going Too!

Don't forget that many of those who have voted for all the freedom-hating, tax-loving, tin-horn politicians will be going to these same places and watch what they do and how they vote then.....the SAME way that destroyed everything for all of those they left behind!!!

Before long these states with more freedom and less taxes will begin to resemble New York and tilt in the same way that NY does - toward tyranny - because all the newly arrived "neighbors", the "boobus non-intellectus", will be changing all the laws in their new locale to reflect their muddle-headed thinking!

Sadly, these mindless fools will neither take the collective responsibility for the part that they themselves played in their former state's downfall nor will they bother to learn what freedom is all about, so the result will be just another state to go down in tyranny!

"Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom." Patrick Henry

There is strength in numbers.

There is strength in numbers. When a number of people are actively rolling back government interference, there is greater success. It's name is the FSP in NH!

yea...parasitic syndrome

There is a truth that a parasite "voter voting for give me's" will move to a new host, after feeding on the first.

"This isn't what the govern meant"

"Win the crowd and you will win your freedom"

Get to where Amish are nearby for natural products.

Too plain and dull...and they have that weird lady with the beard from "Breaking Amish" staring at you all the time

Plain and dull

..perhaps, yet you will be healthier. and perhaps learn something other than playing COD, Halo, Grand theft, and all the other crappola.

I suggest you all move to

I suggest you all move to Loving County Tx, it only has 64 voters in the entire county and would be a great place to take over with liberty minded folks.

Florida is one of the best states to move to for these reasons.

1) guns require no license to possess or sell
2) property values are cheap for lots of biodiversity
3)there is no state income tax here so if you can find federal tax exemption you can live here without income tax at all.
4) property taxes are super low here.
5) homesteads get big exemptions here and we seem to carry more exemptions to estate taxes than any other state (of course all the old people have something to do with this.)

Problems with florida:
it is still run by neocons fascists who won't let you vote for peace.
the resources are constantly bombarded by MNC's like rock phosphate mines, oil spills, power plants, ect.

... but all in all Florida has fast growing farmers markets and good ole southern hospitality outside of the big cities.

If the power goes out

due to a hurricane, I'd rather be hot than freezing.

Disease loves hot weather

Disease loves hot weather without power. Buy a flint stick and move north.

I definitely agree. Florida is a great place!

But could the same be said about New Smyrna Beach, FL? I remember going there every Spring when I was little up until 1999 or so. Really beautiful place. I plan to move there.

great surf, lots of sharks in New Smyrna

but great surf..

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

#4 except here in alachua

#4 except here in alachua county.

I grew up in South Florida

but the heat and humidity were too much for me. I couldn't even breathe or be outside much - I had to be in air conditioning. I do miss the fresh orange and grapefruit juice, though! We had an orange and grapefruit tree in our yard.

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." (Dr. Seuss)

we have those tree as well... I love the heat though, i bask in

the heat and humidity.

I understand though sometimes you can't go outside, but Florida makes a great canvas for permaculture designs and food foresting...

a great place to retire..

the best town in the United States might be St Augustine, Florida... i've been there a lot and it is cooler, and presents mosaics of glades extending from the woodlands through the town and into the beach areas that are always full of awesome people and good waves... that's my happy place

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

Super high taxes and insurance. Hurricanes beau coup. Most of it is retiree's from New York.

I married one so I'll be the first to tell y'all they're goal in life is to make anyone in a fifty foot radius miserable.

Fer sure...

ahhahaaa... yeah there are too many yanks down here planning

our lives and blaming us for it, it's absurd. Florida is a neocons wet dream, but still the taxes are not super high here. Also, because there are so many neocons who believe in their exceptionalism dogmas florida law is very nice to estate planners and gives homesteads exemptions.. of course, socially Florida sucks... and I am a surfer so hurricanes are great for me. But economically florida is okay from a property holding standpoint, but as far as employment it is all service workers so if you actually have to work here it sucks....

hence why there are too many new yorkers

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

I dearly love my home State...

...of Pennsylvania. How about that secession?

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

enough said.

on your priorities.

If it's weed, then yes.

If it's guns, there are far better places (TX, NH, WY to name a few)

If it's taxes, then it's not the *best* choice, but far from the worst.

A signature used to be here!

Texas sure is great

A lot of oil related work out here. No income tax, well no state income tax anyways, a lot of people are small gov. folks out here, the just think that means they are republicans, but anyways, yea Texas is very nice.

You just got PAULED!

Texas COPS are the most authoritarian in the nation.

If you live in a city like Houston you have the pleasure of dealing with countless police agencies over and above ...

Constables (Township Police) bigger than sheriffs department
Every school has its own police force
Some corporations have their own police forces (UP Police just for Texas)

It is not uncommon to pull up to a stoplight in Houston and find yourself looking at 5 different police cars from 4 different agencies, all sitting there with you but going in different directions.

In fact it is uncommon in Houston to pull up to a stop light at a major intersection and not see at least two police cars. They are everywhere.

I keep wondering when they will be standing there holding the toilet paper for me in the restroom.

I tell you there are enough cops on payroll in Texas alone to wipe and service the rear-ends of every citizen in 3 states.

Where in Texas?

I originally come from South Florida and I can't tolerate the extremely hot and humid weather. How's the climate where you are?
