Plan on seeing the movie "Lincoln"? Keep this in mind...

I thought this was a very interesting article that others on the DP would enjoy. I even learned a few things about Lincoln that I didn't know--maybe you will too.

History and Truth be Damned, We will Rewrite it! Woo-Hoo!

I will not pay money to be lied to. I could not even get through the trailer, as it was so obvious where they were going with this film. TPTB must being on a tear to repair the damage to the Lincoln meme promoted for the last hundred years of government school. Isn't this the third Lincoln theme movie to release recently? I am disgusted with Speilberg, becuase you know they researched history to produce this film, and ignored the truth and did this anyway. Even in this short trailer I can see how they paint Lincoln, as an altruistic hero, when he was actually, a corporate tool and murdering tyrant. The Republic died at Appomattox, that was the turning point. Lincoln graded the road for the government we have today.

Speilberg must have been paid a chunk of change by TPTB.

I am disgusted, I had hoped he was going to reveal the truth. I should have known better.I may be going off half cocked as, in truth, I did not see the film, but, if the trailer is any indication of whats inside, well I stand with my comment.

If I am mistaken, I am positive those who have seen the film will let me know!

If my need to be RIGHT is greater than my desire for TRUTH, then I will not recognize it when it arrives ~ Libertybelle

I recently learned something

about Lincoln I'd never heard of before.

He presided over the largest mass execution in American history. 38 Sioux hung simultaneously.

When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign: that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. ~J. Swift

Honest Abe

What a crook. I can't help of think of the monuments to this felon. Monuments carved into mountains, to glorify what exactly? How many people died because of the "civil" war? I knew it was about free trade and not slavery, but didn't know so many interesting details... very informative.

Lincoln vehemently supported slavery

The Corwin Amendment was an attempt to enshrine slavery into the Constitution by prohibiting any further attempts to abolish slavery.

Abraham Lincoln, in his first inaugural address, said of the Corwin Amendment:

I understand a proposed amendment to the Constitution — which amendment, however, I have not seen — has passed Congress, to the effect that the Federal Government shall never interfere with the domestic institutions of the States, including that of persons held to service....[H]olding such a provision to now be implied constitutional law, I have no objection to its being made express and irrevocable.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter probably contains more truth than this piece of propaganda...

Lincoln quote

Quote from Lincoln in his 4th debate with Douglas:

"I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races; I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people…"

"I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race."

If Lincoln was a good President,

If Lincoln was a good President, there would never have been a Civil War. He was a tyrant that had no respect for the US Constitution.

Saw the movie, liked it

It's a wonderful cinematic experience. However, never, ever take a Hollywood movie as a history lesson. While there were a lot of historical details (Daniel Day Lewis got Lincoln's physical characteristics right, including the timbre of his voice and the gait of his walk), it is difficult for the average person to tell when the facts have been stretched or spun for the sake of the dramatic narrative.

It has made me resolve to read Goodwin and DiLorenzo at the same time. The comparison should be interesting.

Deloris Kearns Plagiarist

Deloris Kearns Plagiarist Goodwin? What a gal eh? Yuck. She is always going along with whatever is the latest meme on Meet the Oppressors.
