Disaster? Rand Paul Teases 2016 Presidential Bid

Published on Nov 20, 2012 by TheYoungTurks

"Like father, like son: Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul says he's interested in running for president in 2016.

The Republican senator, a Tea Party favorite, didn't shy away when ABC's Jonathan Karl asked about his White House aspirations.

"I'm not going to deny that I'm interested," Paul said in the interview.

Paul is a son of Texas Rep. Ron Paul, whose three presidential bids have earned him a devoted following for his small-government philosophy.

How Did That Woman Get on TV?

Oh right, the same way all the other hacks get on tv--promise to say anything you're told. Let's look at some of her claims:

"Lure the young people in like a wolf in sheep's clothing [with Libertarian promises]". Is that what wolves in sheep's clothing do? Lure young people? That doesn't even make sense. Further, libertarians promise freedom. Period. That freedom comes with the acceptance of responsibility of one's self at the expense of relying on others to take care of you. Sounds fair to me. Anything else seems immoral.

Republicans want to get rid of the Dept of Education. Yes. They do. It's been a miserable failure. Why would we want to keep it? The implication she makes is that Republicans/Libertarians don't want people to receive an education. It's a straw man argument. We want curriculum to be decided locally. It's less likely to be full of lies and propaganda that way. Plus, the community will have more opportunity to select what's important to them and reflective of their values.

Republicans want to privatize law enforcement. I don't believe I've ever heard that claim made. She's making that up.

Isolationist? That's the term used for one purpose--to slander RP. It's another straw man argument--he's crazy because he wants to isolate us from the rest of the world. It's the exact opposite of what he intends to do.

Finally, she voted for Jill Stein. Though perfectly reasonable on some issues, IMO Stein is a complete whackjob on others. I'm not going to get into the details because I don't have time to re-watch the 3rd party debates to pull exact quotes, but she'd be even more of an authoritarian than Obama on many domestic issues. Anyone who would vote for her either didn't actually study her positions, or is an absolute whackjob themselves.

She is a 'liberal' Glenn Beck on steroids. In no time she will be earning millions per year to get that hateful BS propaganda out there.

I may disagree with Rand

on his approach this year with backing Romney, however, I would vote for him over anything else we have ever been offered in my 24 yrs of being an eligible voter.

that chick

That chick bugs me, small minded intellectual and the black guy thinks raising taxes is the only important thing. Rand Paul told the truth.
Should he lie???

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
Albert Einstein

As much as I love Ron Paul, he is an Island on some issues.

Philosophically pure - but unreachable by the political factions needed to win a national election.

Rand Paul is more of a Peninsula.

Of COURSE we don't agree with Rand Paul always. Our ideals are lofty and a little exclusive.

But to win a national election you have to be INCLUSIVE not exclusive.

I guess some of us would rather just live on an island.

; )

But as long as we have a democracy - you cannot win by being

exclusive. Thats what people like you need to understand.

You need to get people to vote for you in numbers and that means you have to have some connection to the population. Or you really ARE an isoltationsist.

She called Dr. Paul and Isolationist.

and then she lost all her credibility to me:) what a joke!

While I'm not sold on Rand

While I'm not sold on Rand yet (every two steps forward, there seems to be a step back with him), a Rand/Ron ticket is something I wouldn't hesitate to get behind. Or if Ron was attached as Secretary of State or Treasury.

Although Judge Nap might be a better choice for the Liberty Movement. Smart, eloquent, likeable, credible, and for better or worse, he doesn't have the Paul aura/stigma attached to him. The MSM isn't above using the Paul surname as a weapon to your average voter.

If anyone thinks Rand Paul

If anyone thinks Rand Paul will lead the liberty movement forward, you are disillusioned. Rand is not his father and will break as we've seen in the past. If they sell us on rand then he wins but does nothing like obama did to his supporters (even though they dont care about a blatant liar), the liberty movement might as well not have even started. Rand will be the ultimate sheep in wolfs clothing because of where he came from. We need another person like RP, i say VENTURA or more importantly- Judge Napolitano.

Please Study...

...before you go off ranting about Jessie Ventura as if he is closer to Ron Paul then his own son is. In case you didn't know Jessie Ventura is an anti-war democrat. He believes in socialized everything and is off on every economic issue. You insult this movement by saying that a big government liberal is closer to Ron Paul then his son Rand Paul.

These Liberals...

...just sit around all day and talk nonsense. They know nothing of what they are talking about and are simply making fools of themselves.

and they say it with such certitude

and conviction and condescension. I couldn't listen long, it was making me ill.

Hate to say it....

But, a lot of what they say is true. Rand is very "Republican". The same generalizations about taxes and rates that Limbaugh and Boehner use, not being clear on entitlement cuts so it seems as though they are protecting the wealthy, etc...

Ron Paul tried to explain the craziness of the system and how pretty much everything the Republicans and Democrats say is false. Rand plays middle-ground and just comes across as a Teocon Republican.

"In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."--Mark Twain

I agree...

"Rand plays middle-ground and just comes across as a Teocon Republican." That is what happens when you replace principle with ambition.

I don't care how...

...Rand comes across. I just know he opposes the Federal Reserve, fiat money, the "Patriot" Act, the TSA, undeclared "nation-building" wars, etc -- unlike all of the other potential GOP candidates so far.

That's good enough for me.

i up-voted both of you
