Doomsday Preppers VS Dual Survival

I haven't watched tv for a very long time, but I did turn it on just to see what others have been watching lately.

There is this show called Doomsday Preppers. It offers insight on how to survive in the event of catastrophe, government takeover/failure. Different individuals prepare in different ways, but I have noticed that they all have spent major dollars preparing. It also ocurred to me that everything that they worked so hard for could be taken over/stolen/destroyed.

I recall Dual Survival (a show that I actually liked), so the thought came to me that Cody would fare better in any environment and situation without the need for purchased things or the need for money/barter, and be completely free of residence... basically living anywhere off of the earth.

I am just curious as to what you all think.

there a couple of things about

the show that I dont particularly agree with. That is, Prepping isnt just about stuff to store or silver you stack. Its a mind-set. a true prepper wouldn't show their food storage on air for everyone to see. any prepper knows that big brother is always watching; secondly a prepper doesn't necessarily need to spend thousands of dollars either.

call it prepper porn on Nat Geo if you will.

if there is one thing a prepper is that you must Produce more than you Consume. As far as some of the scenes go I really did not see many preppers express any means of producing a good or service. some did and imo only those folks are gunna make it going forward. It sounds funny but many Americans do not produce much of anything these days, especially those collecting welfare. These are the groups of people you want to avoid as far as possible and yet, i find some of these wal-mart preppers live smack in the middle of these dangerous areas.

*I did find it interesting that with regards to an economic collapse, they said it is unlikely. yet with regards to WW3 their was no comment.

All i can tell you is Dual Survival was rather a more productive show with prepping and even then some of those episodes have their flaws.

What is Capitalism?

agree 100% i have been

agree 100%
i have been working alot of overtime so i can save up to buy some land and have a small farm, not to 'prep' just to be in control of my life and food.

yea i know what you mean they

yea i know what you mean
they only show 'walmart preppers' as they are called on other forums though, because no 'real' prepper would give away their 'op-sec' like that.
that being said i like watching the show, some people have really good ideas like the whole greenhouse and swimming pool with fish in it. others are just ridiculous like throwing broken glass on the floor. but i really dont like this 'prepper movement' thing that everyone says 'i was doing it before it was cool' or whatever like that.

i like the minimalist view of survival that duel survival shows. although both of the men have been doing that sort of thing for quite a while and have been trained to do so. if you havent read cody's books you should they are pretty good.

both are interesting shows, but if i were a prepper i wouldnt put it out there, i personally would just have some very basic camping gear and know how, and a group of people that i could trust with my life.
