Smoking 'rots' brain, says King's College study

Does smoking affect the health of the mind as well as the body?

25 November 2012

Smoking "rots" the brain by damaging memory, learning and reasoning, according to researchers at King's College London. A study of 8,800 people over 50 showed high blood pressure and being overweight also seemed to affect the brain, but to a lesser extent.

Scientists involved said people needed to be aware that lifestyles could damage the mind as well as the body. Their study was published in the journal Age and Ageing.

Isn't it funny

Go through a long list of the 20th century's top writers, and how many were smokers? About 98%. It's not how much brains you have but how you use them that counts.

Always had blood pressure higher enough than "normal" that Dr's have recommended Big Pharma "control" medications for about the last 30 years... two strikes??

Good thing I started this nearly a pack-a-day commercial cig. habit by age 16... strike three??

Dang... maybe I shouldn't have bothered getting those "Ron Paul 2016 (maybe now you'll listen)" bumper stickers!!

You saw my age, so no digital camera, cell-phone (no thx on the brain tumors), or even lap-top here; just this antique 5-6 yr. old desktop (big 22" monitor for old-man eyes). However...

Had an "encouraging moment in Kroger parking lot" moment a week or two ago. Kid (20's) pulls up to park behind me at a strip-mall and immediately comes out with his phone and "I've GOTTA get a picture of this" coming from his mouth. I'm like "dude, can you e-mail it to me??" but he goes "aww, sheet, this phone don't do e-mail." Oh well. Anyway...

There is no doubt smoking is

There is no doubt smoking is bad for your body. There is overwhelming evidence to support that. That being said, I'm not too sure about this study. Historically, there have been plenty of smart smokers and this is still true to this day.

I switched to e-cigs

Cigarettes are crap and cause numerous health problems for you and others around you. That is an undeniable fact, regardless of any unsubstantiated claims in this article or by regular smokers. I used to be one and I feel the difference since I went electronic.

Nicotine actually has some beneficial effects like caffeine (always a trade-off with mild drugs like this, though). E-cigs don't have all the thousands of unknown chemicals and poisons that cigarettes do (most of which we don't know about because of the cig company lobbyists). They have 4 commonly consumed substances and a mix of artificial/natural flavors. My taste buds are back, I'm saving money, no cough, no high blood pressure, and I can jog and vape at the same time. Plus I vape all day in my office; don't have to go outside in the cold just to get a fix. If you can get used to it, it's worth switching. I haven't had an analog cigarette in months.

If any of you smokers are interested, go here:

This is the only e-cig site I have found that is not full of garbage information.

Now if the SHTF and we have no electricity, you can't charge your e-cig battery...lol. Something to consider. If we get to that point, I will quit entirely.

PM me if you have any questions as there are a thousand companies out there and most of them are bad; especially the ones selling disposable e-cigs in gas stations and drug stores.

With liberty and justice for all...who can afford it.

Been smokin

for 6 years, grown up with a family of smokers and became one myself. I must say I do enjoy a good smoke, but I want to quit for a number of reasons, mainly to not smell like smoke & to save $$$. It is however extremely difficult. My grandfather smoked and drank since WWII and lived till his late 80's, and his memory was as sharp as a tack, and he could keep pace with me running, so these Londoners are either cookin their studies, or have a bad study on their hands.

I've been smoking for 40+ years

and 3 years ago woke up to the horrors of the UN and Agenda 21 (spent 6 months reading, absorbing, making flyers, spreading the word)which led me to Ron Paul who woke me up from my quasi neocon slumber and helped me to turn others from the dream state to the awakened state of Liberty.
So yes, those sycophants at King College are correct - smoking is very dangerous to the spread of tyranny.
And aren't all these anti-smoking studies a direct attack on Native Americans who consider tobacco to be a conduit from humans to the Great Spirit and gods? How racist!
