Army mom: Military suicides ‘out of control’

According to a Veterans Affairs report this spring, a veteran commits suicide every 80 minutes. More than 6,500 suicides have occurred since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began. For every service member who dies in battle, 25 veterans die by their own hands.

According to a Pentagon report, more American active service members have killed themselves in the first six months of 2012 than in the first six months of any of the previous 11 years, The Associated Press reported.

The report reveals 154 service members killed themselves in the first 155 days of 2012 alone. The number of deaths by suicide is 50 percent higher than combat deaths in Afghanistan during the same period and an 18 percent increase over active service member suicides in the first six months of 2011.

Wars will end

When Moms see that they do.

How many were on SSRIs?

I'd like to see a chart plotting SSRI usage rates versus increasing suicide rates in the military.
Depressed people are routinely prescribed a drug that says it may cause suicidal thoughts. That is like routinely giving a blood pressure medication that may cause strokes - it is malpractice. Giving them to our soldiers is also treason.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

So spot on!!!!!

People are basically good, despite beliefs to the contrary. A small percentage have no conscience and will do what they can to oppress others through the idea that if others succeed around them that that will harm the oppressor's survival. This causes about a fifth of a cross section of humanity to act like that small number of oppressors.

When you have a conscience and come to the realization that you are harming other people (despite previous indoctrination to the contrary) on a huge scale, suicide would be a solution that is likely to occur in proportion to the perceived harm one is doing.
