Setting Up and Opening Polls
I will be at the my location the night of set-up and in the morning to open up the building. Will photo as many of the seals as I can. I'm the "young kid" (30-35 years younger than most of the workers) who understands computers so I get to deal with them the most.

A functional test no matter how many times you say it (do it) may very well add 2 + 2 and equal 4 // and that's absolutely great because it should do that. But a likely suspect is that darn innocent looking 'key card' that collects all the otherwise valid data from the assorted machine locations and is then carried to a central location where it is, in turn, dumped with other valid machine output and in the process records (spits out) inaccurate, manipulated data.
I don't believe there is a local test for a simple key card, is there? I don't know, but what I got from the aforementioned video documentary is that the simple little 'key card' has been proven to be something that can also be manipulated -- the documentary shows this possible even in the face of DIEBOLD technicians claiming it not possible. Go figure.
I remember someone saying once that no lock has been made that determination can't open. Add to that a desire to fraud (the people) and we got BIG TIME problems if we rely on machine technology that can lie a blue streak all the way to the White House.

Of course this concern should be equally shared across our nation -- wherever DIEBOLD goes so goes the election.

The Maryland State Board of Elections allowed Diebold Election Systems to operate its touch-screen voting machines during the state's 2002 gubernatorial election and the 2004 presidential primaries before the state agency actually certified the controversial machines, according to recently disclosed documents.

My fault, he was from State Board of Elections; sorry for the false alarm. He did say Diebold would be in the our office in next few weeks. I will keep my eyes open, send me questions.
I don't want to presume too much...
(This being a government employee, after all, but) maybe the state board of elections guy would also be interested in the answers to our questions. I hope you buttered him/her up with a nice guy concerned citizen routine. A friend like that would be very valuable, and sometimes the cost of friendship is shockingly-cheap! Good luck with Diebold. Chances of friendship there are substantially lower...

Are the Diebold machines ever attached to an IP network before, during or after the election? If so, when?
If not, is the memory card how the data is transferred from the machine?
Nope
From training with systems, they are all stand alone units.

- where are the final tally's stored?
- if a recount is needed, how are the memory cards differentiated in a chain of custody?
