Why do I bother trying to EDUCATE here about BITCOIN?

Allow me to tell you my short personal story with Bitcoin. If Ron Paul supporters embraced this libertarian alternative to the Federal Reserve and International Banking Cartels the citizens of the world would be free of their enslavement to the banking system, a freedom which they surrendered many hundreds of years ago to the money changers. We could be even more at the forefront of the change that is coming! We now have a tool to use to take take back our free right to an honest monetary system. I wish to start a positive thread on Bitcoin here on the DailyPaul! :)

I really think it is all about EDUCATION! That is why I am posting so much about bitcoin here... I actually don't care so much about educating everybody all over the world, I am really not one of those "do gooders" on a personal level... it really doesn't matter to me how many people "catch on" here, but I LOVE the Daily Paul so much, I thought I would do my little bit to "educate" those who are ready for it. I learned so much from you all, I know this is information that has to be spread here.

Interestingly enough, I found out about Bitcoins RIGHT HERE, while reading comments to a post (that was back in March 2011) Bitcoins were $0.30 each, and because of complicated distractions at the time, I didn't bother to just go and INVEST in it a few hundred dollars (which I wanted to) at the time... so I ended up missing that boat completely!

I did buy 10 of 'em through www.coinPal.com (this was a service that offered easy purchase of bitcoins using paypal) by the time I got around to spending time figuring out whether it is better to mine them or if it would be better to buy them, Coinpal was shut down! (Paypal actually stopped allowing purchases of Bitcoin!) :)

Anyhow, I just hope folks here learn about it, and get onboard if they want to before it goes up to... well, who knows where it will skyrocket to...

Lemme tell you though, I am sure the "skyrocketting" has not happened, yet!

IT IS COMING SOON! :)

keep the faith

Bitcoin is counter intuitive that's why it took until 2009 to get invented. But at least it happened and here at age 3 (age 1 with any real value behind it) it's in growing pains.

It's this simple: being a transaction processor (aka corporatism banker) used to be something special and now it's been automated. So they are being put out of a job.

Sound familiar? It doesn't just work against us it also works against them. Free market wins again.

cashless society

is BitCoin some sort of gateway "currency" to a cashless society?

isn't that what the NWO globalist want?

Besides, collectors are not going to have fun with BitCoin.
How do you collect it, place in a coin catalogue and sell it at a flea market?

How do people thousands of years from now find BitCoins in the ground and turn around store it in a museum?

Cashless: YES. NWO control: NO!!!!

The bottom line is, THEY do not control this puppy!

Just plain 'Happy'about the direction the world is taking! Especially if we live to reach LEV [Longevity Escape Velocity]

Yes the NWO

want a cashless society, but one that THEY control. Nobody controls Bitcoin and ever can. It's completely decentralized which is why it's so powerful and can resist government tyranny.

As for collectibles... People including myself already collect Casacius physical bitcoins which have already been featured at a British museum.

The reason I don't bother

is because too many people here believe, deep down, with all of their hearts, that there will be an extended period of time (on the order of years) where we will have no electricity, no manufacturing, no internet, no nothing. Just chaos.

While I cannot, myself, rule out this possibility, I do not find their SHTF scenarios very likely. I think electricity and internet are so crucial to our day-to-day existence that they will be the first things restored in the event of an economic collapse or gov't crack-down/melt-down.

So despite the fact that Bitcoin **perfectly** harmonizes with with the message of liberty and self-government - and SHOULD be a slam dunk to this audience - it just does not compute.

That's why I stopped trying. People can only learn that which they are open to learning.

Cheaper Bitcoins for the rest of us, then.

See you on the other side, brother.

I agree!

Even in one of the most "CONTROLLED" and backwards nations in the world with considerable turmoil at the moment... though intermittent, there still is electricity and internet.

I am talking about BURMA/Myanmar!

I've seen first hand "internet censorship" NOT WORKING! :)

Just plain 'Happy'about the direction the world is taking! Especially if we live to reach LEV [Longevity Escape Velocity]

The period of

chaos should not last long. When a currency collapses nothing in the real world breaks. The people don't change. The only problem is disorganization.

Thanks to Ron Paul and others many people have been preparing for what we must go through, including buying and holding gold/silver. That's a form of money that can be exchanged, and which means order can begin to be restored.

Of course I believe Bitcoin can help with this too, because it can be transacted in exact amounts (harder with precious metals) and online. The currency in Argentina collapsed in 2001, but I believe the Internet was still available or restored widely there pretty quick.

agreed.

agreed.

Is Bitcoin Dependent on Electricity?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't BitCoin cease to function without electricity?

Given our economic uncertainty, there are logs of things that can bring down our electric grid and destroy any wealth saved in bitcoin.

No Coal, - workers not paid, gov't ban.
No Railroad (transports coal) - strike, workers not paid.
No Electricy - workers not paid, strike, coronal mass ejection, EMP, etc.

I'd rather hold coins in my hand.

Well, yes and no. Bitcoin is

Well, yes and no. Bitcoin is dependent upon electricity in the same sense that your lights are, you may not be able to use them when the power is out, but they work again as soon as the power is back on. Actually, though, I have my bitcoin on my android phone, so I can actually transact (with others with android phones) during a power outage also. This method isn't easy or simple, but it is possible. Physical bitcoin tokens also exist, if physical things are all you trust.

Bitcoin is only

dependent on the Internet. It is also GLOBAL.

That means things that happen in one country, such as power outages, repressive laws, etc. don't destroy Bitcoin at all.

Really, people, Bitcoin has been going since January 2009. It is now almost a full 4 years later and the price has only increased from a few cents to now over $12 per coin. Don't you think most every question possible has been asked by now?

Also

Nobody is saying the value of Bitcoin is guaranteed. It is advised to store the majority of your wealth in gold/silver.

However, Bitcoin is probably not going anywhere and its value will probably fluctuate (like the value of anything, including gold). As long as it has any value at all people can use it for the fantastic properties it has.

I'm using the original and Constitutional

alternative to the Federal Reserve.. It's called gold and silver.

GREAT! (?)

But what are you "using" it for?

Just plain 'Happy'about the direction the world is taking! Especially if we live to reach LEV [Longevity Escape Velocity]

Trading it for other things when I can

and using it for a wealth hedge AND a potential wealth builder if I'm correct about what's going to happen. Even though, historically, it hasn't been used to build wealth.

Hell yes, Bitcoin or its equivalent is certainly the future

This makes me really glad to see. The liberty movement really needs to wake up, the gold standard is a beautiful idea but when it really comes down to it, it's true value is still completely imaginary. Its shiny metal, it happens to have been a good way to limit the size of government in the past, but some sort of non-inflatable digitized anonymous currency owns, especially in the 21st century.

Boy, some of you never learn.

Anything digital cannot be trusted, especially when the majority of the people who depend on it in some way have no real knowledge in how to protect it.

Gold and Silver I can protect. People will have to come to my location and find it, then pull it out of a safe while trying to get past my bullets.

Can't really agree with you!

I would not "die" defending my "gold"... in fact, I would probably not die for any ideology of any sort!

Not because I am scared of dying, simply because it is not worth it. If you were able to "earn" your gold once, you could do it again.

Once we are having to "protect" our gold/possessions with guns, and amo, I think things are already FUBAR.

So, I would rather hit the road, and hole up somewhere out of the range of confiscatory agents, rogue bandits and whomever else is going around killing everyone who "resists" their plundering.

Sorry, bro, I choose LIFE! I do think you have the right to do what you wish with yours, and to protect that which is yours, but you won't see me doing it!

Actually, you won't even see me when the SHTF. I will be in a safe place, protecting my "gold" with my mind... possibly in a BRAINWALLET!

"in fact, I would probably not die for any ideology of any sort!

Then we're about as far away from one another as two humans can be. There is no life without Liberty. Those that take your Liberty are willing to kill you over it but as long as you aren't willing to get physical in any situation, they'll love you for it while they herd you where they want you to go.

I don't plan on dying, nor do I want to but there are things worth dying over. Protecting my Liberty, myself and my family and others than come under attack are among those.

Cowards have no place in this movement.

No problem

Use gold/silver for the benefits they have, and use bitcoins for the benefits they have.

Nobody is saying bitcoins should completely replace precious metals. It can be used alongside them (and other currencies, for that matter). That's what competing currencies are all about.

If that's something others want to do.. it's a "free" country

but I'm just pointing out the pitfalls. It's a fiat and digital.. dangerous in my opinion.

I'm putting all of my money into guns, food, land and Silver.

Oh, so I will be forced to use bitcoin?

I don't have much use for gold, I grant you that. But I have many uses for silver, and if you want any of my chickens or fruit or vegetables, you'd better not bring me bitcoins. You cannot dismiss history with a wave of your "no value" wand. Gold and silver have been money (and were declared money in the Constitution) for a reason.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

No one is forced to use Bitcoin, that is the BEAUTY of it! :)

Just like you are not forced to use any other P2P system (torrent) for example... you may CHOOSE to. But first try and educate yourself about it, before you just write it off.

That's my only suggestion.

Just plain 'Happy'about the direction the world is taking! Especially if we live to reach LEV [Longevity Escape Velocity]

I know what I need to know, and I choose not to use it.

Thank you all the same. I will be living with very limited access to the internet soon, so it really makes no sense to me to get into an internet dependent currency.

Love or fear? Choose again with every breath.

imaginary, electric money,

imaginary, electric money, isn't that kind of what we have already?

Bitcoin is not

exactly what you think it is.

Can you post a picture of one?

I would like to see what they look like.
