Iceland Totally Repeaces

ICELAND. No news from Iceland?… why? How come we hear everything that happens in Egypt but no news about what’s happening in Iceland:

In Iceland, the people have made the government resign, the primary banks have been nationalized, it was decided to not pay the debt that these created with Great Britain and Holland due to their bad financial politics and a public assembly has been created to rewrite the constitution.

And all of this in a peaceful way.

A whole revolution against the powers that have created the current global crisis. This is why there hasn’t been any publicity during the last two years: What would happen if the rest of the EU citizens took this as an example? What would happen if the US citizens took this as an example.

Interesting video about Iceland from Bill Still, not saying you need to agree with him, but interesting anyway

The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good things is my religion. Thomas Paine, Godfather of the American Revolution

Great, nationalize the banks

and let the real crooked unscrupulous types (i.e. politicians) run things...stupid socialists.

"I never submitted the whole system of my opinions to the creed of any party of men whatever in religion, in philosophy, in politics, or in anything else where I was capable of thinking for myself." - Thomas Jefferson

I don't understand why the nationalization is considered to be a positive act. If the bank was nationalized for the debt to be shared and payed by the people, the people protested and voted by referendum not to share the debt. All the protests and the vote were necessary because of the first act of nationalization. Without nationalization the problem would have been easier to solve, like for any private enterprise failure.

The debt was because of a private banking/investment program

called IceSave, and it was owed to the people of the UK who put their money in it. The key word is private. The people of Iceland had nothing to do with this, so to expect the people to pay it and hold their debt -- THAT would be the morally wrong practice!

This same thinking is what has OUR people financially screwed! Let the bank fail. The people who invested in that bank from oversees will lose, and that's sad, but thats the free market. Insuring those investments and now needing to pay is the UK's problem, not the citizens of Iceland.

Cheers to Iceland.

Nowhere did I read the word "infiltrate."

nationalization ?!?!?!

nationalization and not payng debt doesn't seems the moral answer.

The debt is created by usury,

The debt is created by usury, aka interest from, "money," created out of nothing.

That is not moral.

Never be afraid to ask simple questions.

What is usury?

Interest rates are interest rates, whether they're 0% or 1000%. There's no need to invent a new word for it. It reminds me of "profiteering" or "price gouging".

It's a dangerous thing when a society abandons the notion of the sanctity of contracts and declares debts unneccessary to be repaid. However, in the case of Public debt, I think default isn't a bad thing because people shouldn't be forced to repay a loan they didnt sign for. A bad credit rating might be a blessing for a lot of countries.

Tu ne cede malis sed contra audentior ito

this is not public debt

reading the article it looks like the debt was private, it may happen that a bank go broke, but nationalize them and don't pay the debt? This is a sort of thing Lenin would be proud of.

New word??

Usury is even older than "interest"....

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison

You are so right about this. Thanks for posting. I remember about a year ago I heard an interview with the President of Iceland, Olafur Grimsson on NPR (I think). It was great. Things seem to be going just fine there now, and a great lesson on how a REAL democracy can work. A quick google search found this article for those interested:http://www.businessinsider.com/olafur-ragnar-grmsson-iceland-icesave-uk-banks-europe-2012-4

Read about Iceland...

THE THREW OUT THE POLITICIANS... you are missing the ENTIRE POINT!!! When you think the answer is Rand Paul...

But this is what republican co-opters do. They will take a success or energized group (in this case, Iceland) ATTACH THEMSELVES TO IT and attempt to CO-OPT IT, as if THEY and their ESTABLISHMENT, LEFTIST REPUBLICAN PARTY ideas are the driving force behind it and/or the REASON for any success.

When in REALITY, the story is about COMPLETE REJECTION!!!!!!!! The American equivalent of this story would be CHUCKING THE LEFTIST republican/democrat (same thing) Congress/Exec for third party leadership, like the Constitution Party and RETURNING to our Constitution, that's be COMPLETELY IGNORED by the republican/democrat (same thing) party for DECADES.
