Lindsey Graham will face a libertarian in GOP Primary!

Good news from South Carolina ... We're going to challenge Lindsey Graham in the GOP primary for the 2014 election!

Many of you remember the conflicts that Dr. Paul had with Senator Graham over the years. (Plenty of nice footage on YouTube here http://bit.ly/RpqABs ).

Well, thanks to an obscure law that's on the books in SC, Lindsey Graham will be facing a primary challenge from Keith Blandford, a Navy veteran and business owner who has twice run for Congress on the Libertarian party ticket.

The Blandford campaign (for which I'm volunteering) is taking advantage of "Electoral Fusion" - a largely unknown procedure only possible in eight states - which allows two or more parties to nominate the same candidate. In this case, Blandford will be seeking the nomination of both the Republican and Libertarian parties simultaneously.

The stakes are high: if Blandford fails to obtain the nomination of either party, the state's "sore-loser" statute will bar him from appearing on the ballot at all. However, if he is is successful, he will appear on the ballot twice, making a strong statement of his dedication to the libertarian philosophy popularized by his inspiration and reason for seeking elected office, Dr. Ron Paul.

Our strategy is simple: the governmental over-reach supported by Republicans like Lindsey Graham has alienated a lot of small-government conservatives. By taking divisive social issues (over which the Federal Government has no Constitutional authority) off the table, and zeroing in on the size and scope of government itself, we hope to attract a broad range of disillusioned voters, from Ron Paul fans clamoring for monetary reform, to Tea Party members upset about the ballooning National Debt, to "Ron Paul Democrats" concerned about electronic surveillance, indefinite detention, and other civil liberties issues.

We're going up against a very powerful, very wealthy political machine, which is why we're getting started so early. If you'd like to keep up with our efforts as we move forward, please bookmark our campaign website - http://blandford2014.com - and check us out on Facebook: http://facebook.com/blandford2014

Me neither. Would not vote

Me neither. Would not vote for him.

Taxes

We absolutely understand your concerns. The ultimate goal is always to eliminate direct taxation entirely, but the first step has to be the elimination of the income tax.

Even Dr. Paul said that, "I see a consumption tax as being a little better than the personal income tax, and I would vote for the Fair-Tax if it came up in the House of Representatives” http://www.freakonomics.com/2008/11/20/ron-paul-answers-your...

You can see Keith Blandford discuss the Fair Tax with an advocate of that program in this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMqGNCfkE3A&list=UU3S5hRUDhwn...

BS utilitarian pragmatism

no thanks

He also said he didn't trust that it would stay at the amount

either. And it's the elimination of the tax all together is the plan.. not replace it.

Not meaning to be Johnny Raincloud here,

but, somebody doesn't understand the demographics of South Carolina.

"The GOP must engage positively with minorities and the next generation, or it will become the increasingly irrelevant “party of aging, white men.”"

In South Carolina, as throughout the entire Southeast, the people that decide Republican primaries are predominantly white and predominantly age 45-75. And yes, there are more men that vote than women. Blandford isn't trying to win a primary in New Mexico or running for president. It makes no sense to play identity politics and try to appeal to minorities and socially liberal young voters when you're trying to capture the Republican nomination in a state like SC. All that kind of rhetoric is going to do is piss off the voters needed to win the GOP primary. Besides, identity politics is one of the disgusting aspect of the Democratic Party. The Jeffersonians won immigrants' votes by running on a platform of freedom, equal opportunity, free trade and Constitutionalism. Ron Paul won the most minority votes in GOP primaries by doing the same. We don't have to "engage positively" with minorities. Just preach liberty and the liberty-loving minorities will join.

Blandford has Lindsay Graham beat with SC Republican voters on economics and Constitutionalism. The foreign policy will be a challenge with the huge military industrial complex in SC. But, mark my words. Lindsay Graham will make Swiss Cheese out of this guy running on that social platform. For better or for worse, that's just the way the South is.

Great point!

Thank you for the constructive criticism! That's exactly the kind of thoughtful input we can use at this early stage in the campaign. We need to make sure that our message comes across clearly, and if there's distracting verbage, then it needs to be clarified. Therefore, we've taken your advice, and revised that line on our website.

Wow.

I'm glad to see y'all are flexible. I definitely want to see Graham defeated. One thing that would really help Mr. Blandford would be if he could explain his positions (particularly foreign policy) to Conservative groups long before the campaigning even starts so, that once he becomes a threat to Graham and Graham starts rolling in millions of dollars worth of ads demagoguing his positions, Republican viewers will already know and understand those positions. I really feel that Dr. Paul would have placed second in SC instead of last if he had spent more time explaining his views on foreign policy and states' rights when it comes to social policy to SC voters long before the primary. Since he didn't, he ended up dropping from 19-20% in the polls before the debates and Santorum's slamming Paul on marriage on the campaign trail to only 12% on election day.

Just my two cents worth. Good luck.

.

Oops. Double post

Can you explain why you thought being Republican and

Libertarian was a logical strategic move? Seems to me that you just increased your chances to fail.

Dual-Ticket Run

There are a number of reasons why the campaign chose a dual-ticket run. Keith Blandford himself will explain it better than I, but basically the idea is to unify ALL libertarians, regardless of party.

To put it another way: Lindsey Graham is a Republican, so running solely as a Republican doesn't really establish any kind of liberty-minded credentials. However, winning the endorsement of the Libertarian party - even though the party itself only commands a fraction of the electorate - proudly waves a flag that says, "This is a libertarian candidate!"

Look, it was Ron Paul who made the word "libertarian" a household word in the last decade. Prior to the modern Liberty movement, the Libertarian party was the only group loudly espousing those principles. Now that there IS a strong Liberty contingent within the Republican party, it's time to bring ALL libertarians together.

Why do you need to establish liberty-minded credentials

We need to put people into office that are Liberty minded.. that's what matters. Not bragging rights or name recognition.

Wondering who came up with that strategy.

Is it rumored that Tom Davis

Is it rumored that Tom Davis is considering running for this seat or does he intend on running for a different position?

Vote Graham out! Would be

Vote Graham out! Would be amazing to see him lose his seat in the primaries.

PLEASE beat the rat Graham out of office.

Last night, Graham warned the Palestinians that the U.S. might cut off aid to them if they get U.N. representation.

That bastard took an oath to uphold the Constitution while he supports giving away billions in foreign aid.

WHERE in our constitution does it allow for congress to take from its citizens amd give it to foreign nations?

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

People should use the word

People should use the word "Rat" more often to describe horrible people. It was really popular 80 years ago, but hasn't been heard a lot since.

"First rule of Government Spending: Why build one when you can have 2 at twice the price?"
-S.R. Hadden

$2,500 (Max Fed donation) to Tom Davis

On the day he announces his challenge to Lindsay.

"First rule of Government Spending: Why build one when you can have 2 at twice the price?"

I will donate the max to this

I will donate the max to this candidate. I loath Graham...

Thanks for the enthusiasm!

Thanks for the enthusiasm! At this point, we just want to let people know that we're serious about this campaign.

I'll be watching this

I'm all for Tom Davis, but anybody else is welcome too.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd donate to Big Bird running against Lindsey Graham.

Yes!

We have nothing but respect for Tom Davis and his supporters. If he does join Keith Blandford in challenging Lindsey Graham, you will be able to decide which liberty candidate you would prefer to replace Lindsey Graham with. If Davis doesn't join the primary race, he can continue to do vital, badly-needed work in the SC Senate. Either way, YOU win!

He's a Republican

.

What's the point behind that statement.

Of the two

There are TWO major parties, that control the third parties, at least that is my experience being in the LP from 76-93. I just had a meeting with a libertarian, since I was a Libertarian as another RP committee member, we have ties to the LP. If I was to run for an office, I would hope that my ties to the LP would nominate me.. and they probably would if they didn't have anyone to compete against me.. SO in this case, the LP has no 0one to run, have endorsed a Republican and are here twisting it to say he's a Libertarian.. Matter of fact, just three months ago a member on the committee "called me out" saying they heard it from a very reliable source that I am a proud Libertarian who infiltraited the GOP.. Since I registered Indy (Decline to State Party, now known as No Party Preferance NPP, since 93, I passed the vetting, as Indy's have no waiting period here and another party has a two year wait.

The point in short.. the LP didn't have a competitor and so they nominated him who by wearing a LP button is to make the LP appear healthier than it is.. not very principled.

If Parties don't matter, them

If Parties don't matter, then parties don't matter.

Parties do matter

and that's why I joined the GOP despite their mantal of shame, which I refuse to share because I joined to change the GOP from within.

I'm from SC and glad to hear

I'm from SC and glad to hear another name in the mix. Tom Davis is clearly the front runner in the preliminary stages here, but...

But I'm disappointed to see a 1 or 2 DPrs not happy to see Tom Davis get competition. May the best Liberty candidate win!

I don't know much about this guy, and I'm a huge advocate for Tom Davis (who was recently polled against Graham winning 90% of the vote), but we should absolutely want the best guy for the job.

I'm in agreement but let's figure out if he's

a Liberty candidate first before we give him that stamp.

Absolutely!

We welcome the opportunity to earn your respect and approval. Keith Blandford was inspired to seek office by listening to Ron Paul, and has been delivering a consistent Liberty message for years.

We will be uploading new position videos for this campaign, but you may be interested to see what he said when he ran for Congress in 2010. Then - as now - his platform is based on that of Dr. Paul.

The videos from that campaign are posted here: http://www.youtube.com/user/blandfordforCongress?feature=watch
