Remember Maine? Charlie Webster is OUT!

AUGUSTA, MAINE — Officials with the Maine Republican Party met this morning to choose new leadership. Outgoing party chair Charlie Webster announced he would not seek another term as chair shortly after last month's election.

During Webster's tenure, Maine Republicans gained control of both houses of the state legislature for the first time since 1974. They also elected Republican Paul LePage as governor. However on November 6, Democrats gained majorities in both houses.

Webster also came under fire during the Maine presidential caucuses from supporters of Texas Congressman Ron Paul. Paul supporters claimed former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney had been declared winner of the Maine caucus before some caucus goers had the opportunity to caucus.
