Sen. Rand Paul to visit Israel on Middle East tour

Hey guys, I don't know what to make of this. Is this part of Rand's "grand plan" or is he selling out? I would personally support a Rand Paul run for president but this move makes me leery. For me, at least.

(CNN) – Sen. Rand Paul, a Kentucky Republican, will travel to the Middle East in the new year, his spokeswoman confirmed to CNN on Friday.

Paul will travel to Israel and Jordan in early January for the information gathering trip lasting a little over a week, his communications director, Moira Bagley, said.

I heard that

Rand will be meeting with both Israeli AND Palestinian leaders on his trip.

Yea and also with Jordan's King Abdullah

But who is in the center of the issue/visit? It seems odd to me that nowadays everything revolves around Israel. I was never religious but I now have faith in God.

if you want to win, you have

if you want to win, you have to play the game.

If we need to play the game to "win"

we have already lost.

how much legislation has ron

how much legislation has ron paul passed? why didn't ron paul run as libertarian instead of staying in the republican party?

I think, not totally sure,

he passed a bill to rename a building in texas. He was also successful in the GAO's partial audit of the fed. As for the libertarian question ur going to have to ask him, I can't answer for Dr. Paul. Why do you ask? Because there are not enough good people in office, we are going to start scratching each others backs? I'm sorry, but my conscious is clear. The blood of the innocent is not on my hands, I have never supported those who use force against the American public, never supported those who have slowly taken away our rights. You want to play the "game", that is your business, but again, my conscious is clear.

i ask you because i know the

i ask you because i know the answer: he is in the republican party to have the most impact, as he has tried the libertarian party before and failed, even though the libertarian party is most in line with his views. is this right? maybe. personally, i wouldn't want to be associated with the republican name, but sometimes "you gotta play the game" to get anything done.

You do

what you gotta do. I am not going to contribute to the unamerican philosophy of playing a game to win. I will not destroy my principles.

that's why it's called

that's why it's called politics. you can either participate and work toward the change you want to see happen, or you can sit back and complain while keeping your principles in line and get nothing done.

You don't need to get on the offensive

and call me out when you do not know me. "Complaining", maybe, "sitting back", you sir, definitely do not know me and that is quite rude, wouldn't expect this from a DPer.

that was quite the rebuttal.

that was quite the rebuttal.

They're gonna to whack him there?

After seeing many of the comments on here

It seems that the DP users are pretty well divided on the issue of Rand. I'm with the half here that will not support him but please don't be upset with me for I agree with almost everything else you guys stand for. But for me, after Ron Paul never bowed down to anyone and never did anything which was against his principle, there is no turning back. I will never support those who sacrifice liberty for the political game. Now, when I say no one but Paul, I don't mean Ron Paul anymore, but the people with a strong moral character as his. Never surrender, live free.

So you basically demand

So you basically demand perfection out of members of Congress?

Pretty much

is there anything wrong with that? I think that's why we vote, we choose who we believe is the best candidate? I don't just settle for what ever comes on down the line. How about you?

I vote for the "best"

I vote for the "best" candidate, but the best candidate is never "perfect." There's no such thing as a perfect politician. They're all flawed.

I demand perfection

but that doesn't mean I'm gonna get it. But I will definetly not vote for a lesser of two evils. Thanks for telling me something I already know.

like someone else here said

like someone else here said .. it's just confirmation that he is serious about running for president .. and it shows clearly

Rand Who? is a good little neocon puppy.

He might as well be Lindsey Graham.

This twerp is nothing like his principled old man.

Ron Paul is an Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, and Teacher of Liberty.
He shepherded one of the greatest grassroots movements of our time,
of all time.

On the other hand, Rand Who? is just another mainstream neocon republican.

Ron Paul

is great as you stated. His son is not perfect. If you respect Ron Paul as much as you say you do in this post, how do you feel comfortable calling his son names? Don't like Rand? Don't vote for or support him. I would not vote for Rand. Respect Ron? Back off mudslinging at his son.

Actually he's far from it

He isn't perfect but don't call him a neocon or compare him to that LG POS. Remember that he needed the GOP to get elected and he needs the GOP to have a chance at thinking about being president. Rand needs the GOP just as much as they need him, and us. While I don't understand everything Rand does I do think Rand is a very smart individual dedicated to the constitution and liberty. I would be proud to have him represent me. Much prouder then I am of every politician in Tennessee except for Mae Beavers. I like Mae because of her firearms bill but that's a different story.

Rand Paul

I was already 100% Rand Paul supporter. Your comment just made me 110% Rand Paul supporter.
"This twerp is nothing like his principled old man"
That sounds to me like you have no idea what's going on and you're out to divide.

shows he wants to be president

I don't think you can become president these days without a trip to the middle east and Israel specifically, sadly enough. this is a confirmation that Rand is seriously interested in the job.

so far he's been letting me down on Iran sanctions, but doing a damn fine job on pretty much everything else, so to see him making moves that show that he's serious about the possibility of winning the white house is exciting for me. Rand is in the best position to do it, he's got a much bigger shot at the party's nomination than Ron ever did (sadly) and none of the other names floated around the Liberty Movement have a Gary Johnson's chance in hell at getting the presidency. That doesn't mean you shouldn't support them, I'm all for fighting losing battles when the cause is just, but Rand both has a chance and will probably be a good president for us (though maybe not perfect, we'll see)

On Israel, he's going to have to go for trying to convince voters in the gop that his neutrality position is actually pro-Israel, that minding our own business actually means letting Israel do what they want for their own sovereignty and security. I think he'll be able to make that case much better than Ron was able to. In some ways I don't like that, I wish we could get a president who would condemn the Israelis for their war crimes, but AIPAC rules Washington DC and in any event, according to the Constitution it's none of our business.

But it is our business as

But it is our business as long as we give billions to Israel and as long as we provide diplomatic cover for its crimes. The US could at least abstain on Israel issues at the UN.

Rand Paul 2016

I've been a Rand Paul supporter since I found out he was Dr. Ron Paul's son. When he said he was endorsing Mitt "flip flop" Romney, I jumped into speculative mode but I still knew that nowadays you have to play along to get along so I never doubted Rand(and still don't). When I heard he was out to visit Israel, I became conspiratorial...damn! Thanks for your feedback. Of course his serious about winning the white house and I know understand why he would want to visit the middle east. I should have known better than to engage in speculation and should judge him based on his actions and voting record. I am definately a Rand Paul supporter, always have been.

Just looking for honest feedback.

I'm pretty sure I know that my beginning remark is what got me downvoted but I was honestly looking for responses because I'm not that savvy in politics and I wanted to hear what people had to say so I can be up to date. I'm a hardcore Dr. Ron Paul supporter and am still a Rand Paul supporter so I guess the downvotes are because people don't like that Rand Paul is visiting the middle east. Maybe I should rethink my position on Rand Paul.

No up or down vote from me.

It is up to you to review all voting records, among other things, and decide for yourself. Peer pressure, relying on others, teaches nothing.

If you are seeking opinions on positions or interpretations, by all means ask away.

"What if the American people learn the truth" - Ron Paul

You're right.

I had just come across the article and was surprised that he was out to visit Israel, and since I see alot of posts about Rand Paul being a "traitor" to the Liberty Movement I just wanted to get DPers opinion. You're right though, the voting records and other things should help me decide for myself. And I have decided. Rand Paul 2016. Maybe I shouldn't have posted something so highly contested knowing that it might have negative results. I'm a Liberty supporter and I believe Rand is too, I was just looking for honest discussion. I know noticed that there was another post about this and should have just jumped in that discussion. Thanks for the response Proud American. Peace & Liberty!
