Massive Attack on Ron Paul Underway via Instapundit and Reason Magazine

This is really big.

At www.instapundit.com, there is now a major attack on Ron Paul underway which will last through Saturday.

http://bidinotto.journalspace.com/?entryid=656

I actually found all this via a www.technorati.com search for Ron Paul which every RP supporter should be conducting in their spare time.

Have at it. The bottom line is that they are fingering Lew Rockwell for racist remarks made 18 years ago (they actually call them "bombastic remarks" in their text - which is more likely the context of how they were made).

In essence, RP Is being attacked for still being friends with Lew Rockwell and the attack continues that says RP "knew all about what the newsletters said and who wrote them".

I am wondering more about why these libertarians hate RP so much compared to the horrible array of other candidates he faces.

Does anyone have a copy of the new Beltway Libertarians article that describes how these people want to stop libertarians from ever getting actual political power because they want to keep tax money flowing into Washington to fund their friends and lovers and spouses?

reason article

The reason article soemwhat exonerates RP. It is Lew Rockwell that has explaining to do.

True colors

Reason's hit piece is just their announcement of where they stand. They quote Ed Crane the head of CATO, who is a CFR member, so you know he stands.

Reason is just coming out of the closet. It's nice that they don't have to hide behind their libertarian front anymore!!

Well said!

Gee, and I was thinking about subscribing to them again after Gilespie went to bat for Paul against O'Reilly! I won't touch their magazine now.

Many of these Libertarians are holding out for the pure 100% agrees with everything they think kind of candidate. They would rather settle for nothing, which I could understand if they were never given a prospect like Ron Paul that might stand for at least 80% of what they say they believe.

Now they even say he is giving Libertarianism a bad name and fouling the public's understanding of libertarian principles. Some could say its the other way around.

the person who wrote them should come out and say so

Nobody will condem Ron Paul for standing up for a long time freind not wantiong to ruin there career this will be forgotten after a year no long term affects

"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent" Thomas Jefferson

Racist

They can't attach these 18 year old "racist" quotes directly to RP, yet they still persecute him and cry for blood.

John McCain calls a whole race of people "gooks" and he gets a pass.

Don't forget:

The Burkas

I do not think the average

I do not think the average person who votes has even heard of these magazines. Blow it off and get back to canvasing.

Doesn't look like an attack to me

Looks like investigative reporting to find out the truth. People are curious. I'm curious.

To Devon

I wish you would be curious about these issues to yourself.. you seem to have a wonderful way of dredging up crap. Look, trust the guy, or not... is that easy enough to understand? If you don't, then why are you here?...lol

I do trust him

What I'm curious about is who wrote the newsletters. Aren't you?

Not really

I mean, it's history.. who cares really, except people that are trying very VERY hard to find anything to slam him with? Personally, I've checked his record, talked to him, researched him, and I'm all for him. That's enough for me. I mean, research any other candidate, look at thier voting record, background history, and credibility.. then look at what he wants to do. Personally, I think the choice is a no-brainer. So who gives a damn about this silly issue, in light of his competitor's histories?

Has nothing to do with Paul for me

I read Rockwell and Rothbard a lot and want to know if one of them wrote them. This is not a Paul issue for me. I already know he's not a racist. I want to know if Rockwell is. The Reason article is very interesting.

Witch Hunt

This has been posted before, but I'll give it a shot again...

This is a witch hunt. They will never EVER be satisfied with the answers given, no matter what they are. If someone comes foreward, it won't matter. Then they will try to spin it into the Dr being an accomplice... then something else... there is NO end to this topic, as it will NEVER be satisfied. If you feel you have to take the time to wallow in matters like these, then be constructive: dig up dirt on the other candidates, join one of thier message boards, and run with it.

I'll personally pass on hanging out with the trash, and spend more time on other issues.. like America is currently swirling down the tiolet, and we need to tell everyone about Ron Paul.

Holy Smokes, now this

http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2008/01/clearing-view-of-ron-pa...

Is this true about the Michigan coordinator?

I am a supporter, have donated, and knocked on a lot of doors, but this starting to give me pause.

Why not organize enough

Why not organize enough support to have this guy replaced and removed? Shouldn't be hard if this report is true. Any time we find idiots like that have infiltrated the campaign, they must be weeded out as quickly as possible.

Why doesn't Rockwell just come forward?

He could save us all a lot of grief if he just issued a statement on his well-read website. I don't believe Ron Paul wrote these terrible things (and they are terrible). He's keeping mum so he doesn't have to out his lifelong friend Rockwell. This is all understandable. But why doesn't Rockwell return the favor? Lew, just come forward and put it all to rest with a simple statement, one way or the other - either yes I am the writer, or no I am not but this is who is. Then, since Ron covered his ass for this long, just come out and say Ron had no knowledge of it.

Like someone else said, with friends like that, who needs enemies?

Reason

Just got a letter from Reason mag. with a postage paid envolope , a Slim Jim fits nicely:)

The smear job will backfire with anyone who reads their links

I was just reading the links from the latest Reason hit piece.

They link to the Lew Rockwell website as if the following article will hurt Lew Rockwell and Ron Paul more than Reason and Cato:

http://www.lewrockwell.com/dilorenzo/dilorenzo129.html

The article implies that the Cato Institute is a sellout organization, and doesn't quite suggest that maybe Cato is being funded by neocons now.

Cato apparently endorsed Fred Thompson simply because Fred made a few simpllistic remarks about limited government in one or two of his speeches.

Some of these "libertarians" also hate Ron Paul for being a "blame America firster". I am actually OK with the Iraq War, but I do not see anything unpatriotic about Ron Paul, quite the opposite. He is a hero to me regardless of my disagreement with him on the Iraq War (and I recognize that he is a lot older and wiser than I am).

You know, I just spent the past 2 months in Russia where there are a lot of monuments to Lenin and the Soviet Union still standing. I was just thinking that every Russian citizen, even the 4 year olds, realize that these monuments remain only because they look nice but not because Lenin or the Soviet Union need to be honored so much.

In the United States, however, Americans of all ages who might be walking around the mall in DC...would recoil in horror if anyone suggested that Lincoln or anyone else who "got a statue" might not be such a hero.

In some respects, we are among the most dense of cultures.

Great Idea

Thanks Perry911, I get pre-approved credit card solicitations and other junk in the mail all the time. Now I know what to do with those postage paid envelopes. :) "Go Dr. Paul".

That IS a great idea!

Everyone do it!

Mathew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Some of these comments are disturbing

Are we seeking truth or propaganda?

Its our Revolution!

I read the old RP newsletters PDFs and didn't find anything offensive or that would lead me to think the author was racist. Some of the items were about black personalities such as MLK, but they didn't assert anything racist. What I read was, if anything, politically incorrect in that our current social propriety police will come down on any statement or expression that discusses race or a minority in a negative light. I believe there should be an open discussion on these topics and that people should be viewed as individuals. I cannot see where Ron Paul has ever said or done anything or written anything that is racist.

Regardless, it is very disturbing to see Libertarians join the witch hunt against Ron Paul. I am especially disgusted with Reason and Cato. They obviously don't want a libertarian style government. Let them distance themselves, and let us distance ourselves from them! This is our Revolution, let them continue to putter around in their ivory towers analyzing this and that but never doing anything about anything.

Newsletters

Victoria,
Can you point me to them?
Thanks

Where would those slimeballs be without Ron Paul?

Those people are motivated primarily by envy. Without Ron Paul to attack, would they even have a reason for living?

I think this puts it all to bed, once and for all:

Huffington Post.... Liberals problem with Ron Paul

This is good essay... (some bad language) .... but it comes to Ron Paul's defense...

And for those libertarians not too happy with Ron Paul, remember that Ron is not perfect in their eyes for these three reasons:
1) He is not supportive of Gay marriage/adoption/openly gay in military
2) He has "sold out" the immigrants. He used to hate the INS as much as the IRS. He never talks about the Blue Card libertarian solution to this issue.
3) He is against Abortion and wants to take a women's right to control her body.

The story in Reason is true, but behind that the real story is don't piss off some gay libertarian writers, they will sell your campaign out as fast as they can. Will they discuss the issue of racism, or will they just flame the fans of PC correctness? Answer: Flame the fans of PC correctness. So much for "reason" magazine.

Justin Riamondo, also a long time gay libertarian activist, has seperated himself from these libertarian sell outs over at Reason and Cato. He now has the most successful website around, www.antiwar.com and had been fighting the real fight, naming NeoCons, and hitting the target

What bothers me is that Cato and Reason have no ambition

It is like the Cato Institute and Reason Magazine don't really want to see a libertarian revolution and never contemplated one themselves. It is like they are institutions that are asleep.

What are the accomplishments of these organizations? What is the circulation of Reason Magazine? Growing?

When I went to them with warnings of how the IMBRA law will, if upheld, take away our freedom of assembly online...I got no response from them.

It was my observation that these beltway libertarians care more about the special rights of homosexual men than about the rights of heterosexual men...and, to them, women's rights triumphed over men's rights.

Their articles on RP sound like whining liberals who love to punish people for past indiscretions. Political correctness is supposed to be the enemy of a libertarian and, yet, these seem to be written by cowardly politically correct people who make the arrogant claim that they are writing these smear pieces "because they don't want the name of libertarianism to be smeared" by association with Ron Paul.

I know I must have made a racist remark 20 years ago during the race war and Watts Riots. So what? There was a race war going on and a lot of people were being mugged in New York City where I lived. The crack epidemic saw a lot of murders. Read "Freakanomics" to understand more of what happened back then and why the race war ended.
