What they should ban are helmets.

It sounds counter-intuitive, and will never happen, but if the NFL reverts back to a leather style helmet it would naturally influence players to play/tackle differently. You can't lead with your head when it's not protected. Players in all levels of football would have to revert back to the "form" tackle.

The same can be said for hockey- they should bring back the clutching and the grabbing too.

And I agree with my French soccer rival (a few comments down). Change football's name. Soccer is the REAL FOOTball. ;)

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Football injuries

are not a joke.

You ever get into a small car crash 25 times in one day 16 weeks in a row?

It does not feel good.

I am 25 years old, the first object I remember holding in my life was a football. I began playing organized little league at 8 years old and had been knocked out twice before age 10. I have been knocked out a total of 6 times in my career of football... some more sever than others, which resulted in concussions.

I have chronic body pain coupled with genetic arthritis, chronic migraines, and Massive Depression Disorder.

I am lucky to have any brains left, let alone be in Graduate School.

Would I do it again? yea.. and i'd play harder.

They that give up liberty for security deserve neither.

Great

First handguns and now football.... freaking weird-birds...

LOL. Keep cool

LOL. Keep cool. Who'd want to ban football ?

I'd just **propose** ... to rename it.

Watch what

George Carlin said about football. It is the hilarious truth!

It trains stupid people to support violence and war.

What would the Founders do?

Don't know about that...

While I'm sure that the US' focus on sports is a "bread and circuses" type of deal, I don't really see sports as way to "support violence".

When I read some posts here saying that football should be banned (this has come up in several other semi-recent topics) I have to wonder if these folks actually understand what liberty, or competition is.

I don't buy the assertion that football, nor any other sport trains people to support war. What is wrong with a little healthy competition and perhaps a few boo-boos?

I'm not really a 'sports guy', and yeah some people take it too far (like with anything else), but sometimes I think that people look a little too deeply into them for answers...on both sides of the spectrum.

I hear ya....

It's just what Carlin said and the way he put it--with all of these militaristic metaphors in the game. You'll understand what I mean. It is more useful to our military-industrial complex masters than most of us would be willing to admit.

(I hafta go and coop up my birds for the night, but I'll try to post a link when I get back in.)

What would the Founders do?

Carlin and yourself both have a point

I can definitely agree that US football, and most other US sports can give off a slightly militaristic vibe, but I see it more of a result than a cause. I guess my point was to not condemn anything too quickly (not directed specifically towards you, more of a general opinion).

Right on.

I see your point. I don't think football was necessarily designed to be a tool to support war-like tendencies, but it does very conveniently "help" to do just that... and may be "pushed" in that direction nowadays. Dunno.

Here's a link (It was a comparison of baseball and football.):

Enjoy!

What would the Founders do?

So..

POT = GOOD.

FOOTBALL = BAD.

Gotya.

Well, that's it! Ban

Well, that's it! Ban football!

Blessings )o(

:)

NO! Don't you see?!

PEOPLE are hurting and killing each other.

Clearly, the solution is to ban people!

;)

I teach high school and I

I teach high school and I once had two students with broken legs and one with a broken neck all in class at the same time, all from football. I do not think we are doing the boys any favors by having them play football and busting up their bodies. I sometimes wonder if the government didn't invent football to toughen the boys up for the military.

French here. Try soccer. That's the real FOOTball anyway.

Thanks

This stupid sport should be banned in schools. Can you imgine the founders playing it? :)

Wrestling has more merit than this.

More productive to

ban taxation. Then there would be no public school programs of any sort. If the market created a football program-it likely would-you wouldn't have to worry about what went on in school.

Naturally

Well stated.

donvino

you are silly...let's ban

you are silly...let's ban running, skateboarding, snowboarding, bicycling, boxing...let's ban every activity which in the past resulted in death.

overreacting

I think you are just a tad.

Do home schoolers have football programs?

I think they put their money into more useful things.

I think in the days of austerity football programs in public schools are going to be trimmed down just a bit.

Heck they have cut down on toilet paper rolls for public schools in Spain. :P

"Do home schoolers have

"Do home schoolers have football programs?"

Yes they do. I'm glad I could be of assistance.

Perhaps

They should have rugby programs. I have more respect for rugby players. I recall playing rugby in public school, it was a hell of lot more fun. ie. no whistles and equipment.

Surely some of these 350 lb linemen could play without equipment lol
