DuPont contracts private paramilitary police force to terrorize farmers
Submitted by legalizeliberty on Wed, 12/05/2012 - 14:59(NaturalNews) The nation's largest holder of genetically-modified (GM) soybeans, DuPont, is taking the biotechnology industry's mafia-style intimidation tactics to the next level by hiring its own private paramilitary police force to scare American farmers into continuing to purchase its products in accordance with patent protection laws. As reported by Bloomberg, the biotech giant is planning to hire an additional 35 former police officers within the next year to make surprise visits at farms that use its Monsanto-licensed Roundup Ready soybeans to ensure they are in compliance.
Farmers that have agreed to purchase GM soybean seeds from DuPont are required to abandon the longtime farming tradition of saving seeds every year, and instead purchase new ones for each planting season. Though the legitimacy of this requirement is currently being challenged in federal court, existing patent laws appear to protect companies like DuPont in their pursuit of farmers that try to buck the requirement and save seeds in defiance of its harsh contract provisions.
This is the exact reason, of course, why DuPont has decided to begin patrolling rural America in search of farmers that might be saving seeds in violation of its patent requirements. In Canada, where DuPont also has a considerably large agricultural presence, the company has already established a paramilitary force of 45 mostly ex-cops whose only job is to visit farms; examine their planting and purchase records, walk their fields, and make assessments on whether or not they are in violation. If farmers are found to be in violation, DuPont then pursues legal action against them, and many end up losing their farms and livelihoods.

This has been going on for YEARS
If this is new for DuPont it's an old game for Monsanto.

This is quite simply a bid to steal all the productive land, all of the food supply, all of the seeds themselves.

Then I would say this makes a good case for not buying their
crappy seeds to begin with.
Certainly, DuPont might have a claim for not allowing the saving of their own product.
But are they going so far as requiring these farmers to forever buy seed from them and not someone else? I think Natural News is again making mountains out of molehills.
Owning the product of the seed is questionable, but certainly I don't see anything here from stopping a farmer from choosing to no longer use DuPont seeds or their offspring at all.

"But are they going so far as requiring these farmers to forever buy seed from them and not someone else?"
Yes. That's exactly what they are doing. They are trying to take possession of the very seeds that HUMANITY has been developing for aeons. The thing here is you don't sound like you've done any research on the topic and thence you sound incredulous. If you checked up on NaturalNews and http://farmwars.info you'd be more informed.

NaturalNews.com frequently plays the part of the Useful Idiot.
They are very good at making wild claims that this or that law does some horrible thing. And they would be correct, if the law weren't so limited to whom it applied. That's the part NN.com seems to overlook, or not look at whatsoever.
The problem with this behavior by them is that people will erroneously believe that have to follow this or that new law when they don't. Effectively, NN.com has suckered people into volunteering to submit to bureaucratic tyranny that most don't have to submit to.
S.505 from last year, that was hotly debated here on DP is a prime example of this.
And you still haven't shown that what I asked is what DuPont is doing.
You are implying that by trying to dupe farmers into continuing to use their seed, or claiming they own the product of that seed, they EFFECTIVELY are leaving no other choice, but you haven't shown that DuPont is asking any court to force farmers who once bought DuPont seed to forever buy DuPont seed and that the farmers have no legal right to buy from anyone one else, or to try to grow heirloom seed on their own without using DuPont seed as a source in any way.
That was the question I asked.
I don't see anywhere that DuPont is pushing such nonsense. I see them trying to effectively corner a market. But the farmers can defeat this buy buying seed from someone else entirely and simply not dealing with DuPont any longer. Farmers are still free even to source heirloom seed from someone other than DuPont and save THAT seed product. DuPont can be left out of the loop entirely, as they should be, for their heavy-handedness.
New sequel movie...
They could come out with "Children of the GMO corn" horror flick. They could attack and kill all the DuPont/Monsanto ex-cops that show up to the farm. Someone get me Stephen King's number. There is a movie script to write!
That's funny
Thanks for the laugh...
Time to post your land and
Time to post your land and warn clearly "trespassers will be shot" Non-users of these "products" should be testing for cross pollination contamination in their fields and sue the Duponts and Monsantos of the industry for genetic pollution of their lands with the well identified and patented contaminants they supposedly own.
Property rights defense solves the pollution problem not the alphabet agencies of the government that enable it. Teach this to your neighbors and friends and in your schools.
On the contrary, Monsanto has already won cases of theft
where a farmer accused Monsanto's crops of infecting his.
The farmer was convicted of "stealing" Monsanto's property even though it was Monsanto's crop that was cross-pollinated.
Nope it's in the contract
They get to make inspections. Posting doesn't effect them.

I think that the obvious
question here is why are the farmers agreeing to purchase these GM soybeans in the first place? If they do not like the harrassment of Dupont, it would seem that the simple solution would be to not do business with them in the first place.
Sorry no choice
Courts have ruled that ANY GMO or patented plants or seed in your fields NO MATTER IF THEY DROPPED OFF THE TRUCK THAT DROVE PAST YOUR FARM OR THAT BLEW IN FROM A NEIGHBOURING FARM renders your land under contract to the patent holder.
So often you have no choice. Besides giving them your land and walking away.

Financial enticement. Roundup
Financial enticement. Roundup ready seed for instance is designed to use the cheaper herbicide Roundup thus saving the farmer money to gain the same yield. Turns out lots of these claims are false anyway but it starts a cycle with these crooks.
Question, why are they "former" police officers?
biotech giant is planning to hire an additional 35 former police officers.
I guess
the law prevented them from getting the ones still in the police force.

Or they hired the ones that were fired from the police force
? LOL
LOL
Makes sense -- hire the crooks!
Side note couple of folks down-voted this article.
I wonder if we have some of them here.

I just pulled you out of the negative
I don't know why people feel they need to negative vote, I have been on here 4 plus years and I doubt I have voted down more than just a few times.
Thank you

How will these 35 ex-officers like it if, in the normal routine of their workday as DuPont employees, they are videoed and mocked nonstop? Is there such a thing as "corporate lackey stalking"? Someone ought to find out. Might make for an interesting documentary.
