News: Jim Demint To Leave Senate

Washington Post: Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is leaving Congress in January to lead the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, as first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

DeMint, a staunch conservative who often clashes with party leadership, was reelected to a second term in 2010. He will depart before the new Congress is sworn in next month. “I’ve decided to join The Heritage Foundation at a time when the conservative movement needs strong leadership in the battle of ideas,” DeMint said in a statement. “My constituents know that being a Senator was never going to be my career.”

The senator, a vocal advocate for term limits, had already pledged not to seek a third term.

Demint ? Mixed feelings

Thought that his work on S604 (audit the FED) was my sole voting issue on any Senator. I really think the comment on one party is right on target. The Palestine vote was 138 to 9,the Neo-cons and Likuds are losing the hearts and minds of the world. Voting "no" Thursday were Israel, the United States and Canada, joined by the Czech Republic, Panama and several Pacific island nations: Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau. I think the world is rebelling against policeman of the world "Truman bomb inspired foreign policy". Don't get your hopes up.. The other SC senator is a McBrain dead Neo-con.... remember the Miss SC comments in 2008? I is amazing how the MSM does not cover the Military industrial complex policeman of the world offense fear policy. AIPC has propagandized the swill from the Neo-cons here and Likudes in Israel.... When push comes to shove I hope Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau people are happy because Americans and Israel's are not.... DeMint took on FED but not the Military Offense complex....
REMEMBER THE SC VOTERS...... DON'T HAVE MUCH HOPE.

I don't known DeMint - but this very well could be

a sign that you really cannot do a damn thing in Washington. I mean he is basically saying - I don't want any part of what is coming -so what is coming must be so bad that he doesn't want his name anywhere near it.

Sounds like a storm is coming and he is getting out while the getting is good.

Just look at what this loser boner is doing - I wonder if DeMint realizes that even the illusion of the two parties being seperate is about to disappear and we are going to have one "forward" thinking party and he is getting the hell out.

Maybe this is why the GOP put zero effort into the house and senate races. They are effectively folding into one party.

Good riddance.

Now he can go support research that shows how we need the Patriot Act, roving wiretaps, and perpetual war. Swell.

Has C4L addressed the 2014 race in SC?

"The distraction of a new seat may well benefit Lindsey Graham" lol It's more of an opportunity for the liberty movement if anything to have both senate seats up for grabs. Is there a list of potential candidates running for these seats? As far as I know Tom Davis, Lee Bright, and Keith Blandford seem to be the most highly talked about challengers.

Well

if Tim Scott takes over the Senate seat, what happens to Scott's District 1 seat? Even though I am 25 with no experience, I wouldn't mind pursuing.

Go for it.

Keep us posted!

Debbie

they'll probably send you a "survey" soon and request a$300 vote

while i don't care to give to the C4L because they only ask for 100 to 300 donations but also because i don't know exactly where the money is going. I will give to the right candidate when I feel like they are the right person for the job. I fear C4L just assumes i'll agree with whoever they give money too.

the Heritage Foundation...

is a freaking den of vipers- what the fuck is DeMint thinking? It becaame clear over the last 1-2 years that DeMint was coming around to Ron Paul's thinking, and now he bails? I'm all for term limits, but its always the decent ones in Congress who term-limit themselves. The neocons and big govt libs will stay forever!

I'm not for term limits. I think we should be free to vote in

or out whomever we want as much as we want. I'm glad Ron Paul never got term limited out of Congress. I don't think term limits is the answer.

Debbie

I agree

Not many good people want to get into politics, while a ton of bad ones do. So term limits will only replace good representatives, on the rare occasions we get them, with bad ones prematurely.

It's too bad he wont be in

It's too bad he wont be in the Senate but he'll actually be able to pull the conservative movement back towards classical liberalism at Heritage. All the nutkickers who can't stand his military stance are seriously flawed. He's supported this movement at many turns. He's said a few times that he'd rather the debate be between conservatives and libertarians than conservatives and liberals.

Tom Davis better play his cards right!

We need him in office...NOW!

Did he support the Iraq war?

That is a simple test for how much a candidte supports liberty.

"We have allowed our nation to be over-taxed, over-regulated, and overrun by bureaucrats. The founders would be ashamed of us for what we are putting up with."
-Ron Paul

With our

huge victory in the November elections, we should not put people in the corner with purity standards that are above reasonable.

For example, is your mother against liberty if she supported either Iraq war or trade unions in 2002?

"For example, is your mother against liberty if she supported

either Iraq war or trade unions in 2002?"

Yes...if she still does but politicians are different.. They're untrustworthy when it comes to sticking to principles if they ever had any to begin with.

Stop making excuses for them, "Liberty_First". If we don't hold them to a higher standard, we get nothing.

Good riddance. I'm sure

Good riddance. I'm sure they'll get someone just as slimy to replace him.

Tim Scott or Tom Davis

Would be great. Tom Davis is of course preferable, but Tim Scott is a great guy from the low country (my district).

Yep Demint is not in the same ball park

but he is closer to the stadium than many others

This is the most important thing I can imagine in my life next

God so why would I take someone that's closer than the average neocon. If it's not as important to you, jump on that wagon. I think it's a highly irresponsible attitude you're putting forth.

You should listen to Obama and Romney's supporters.. They use that same approach.

A turd is a turd, one may be dryer than the next and safer to step in, but you're likely to still get shit on your shoes.

I can't count people like you as a Liberty brother or sister.. to me, you obviously don't value Liberty like I do.

Demint is more on our side than most

He agrees with Ron Paul publically on libertarian ideas, on less government, cutting spending and eliminating the FED.

Please subscribe to smaulgld.com

?

What libertarian ideas are those?

And yes, he's for less government spending on the domestic side, but a stanch supporter of overseas spending. His choice to go to Heritage makes that clear.

Read Demint's comments on the military

not what you might think
This guy is as close to liberty as any one else with a mainstream persona

I can't think of a more mainstream, politcally powerful person

who speaks as highly of Ron Paul and the libertarian movement than
Jim Demint

He may not be perfect but he is no socialist redistributor of wealth as some of our other "allies"

Correct but read the article-Demint is a departure from the

traditional neocon republican
He has publicly supported Ron Paul and has denounced RINO's
