Libertarian Columnist: 'Good Riddance, Jim DeMint'

Good riddance, Sen. DeMint. You represented a large part of what is wrong with the Republican Party and modern conservatism.
What do I mean by that? Well, during the 2010 midterm elections, heavily social-conservative DeMint told Fox News’ Bret Baier that “you can’t be a fiscal conservative unless you’re also a social conservative.”
In other words: If you believe in free markets and limited government, you cannot possibly believe in things like legal marijuana, gay marriage, women’s choice, etc.

looks like 'libertarians' believe in a very tiny tent
If you believe in the 'sanctity of marriage' - you're not one of 'us'. Well, then I thank God I'm no 'libertarian'.
As for DeMint, he left the Senate to become the new president of The Heritage Foundation - at least that's what the email I just rec'd says.
Excerpt:
Dear Michael,
Three years ago, I told the Heritage Foundation's Board of Trustees that I would step down as president in April of 2013. I urged them to set up a formal succession process and begin a national search.
I'm delighted to announce that the Board has elected Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina to take over next April as President of The Heritage Foundation.

Geez the people on here
DeMint said the GOP needs to be way more Libertarian.
As for gay marriage and abortion - F off to all who think that's soooo important to Liberty, BS
Killing babies is not Liberty
Everybody has the right to exist, once conceived
As for Gay Marriage, it's a freakjng liberal scam, they could care less about marriage, it's about bringing down tradition.
Marriage should be 100% left up to Churches
DeMint is no doubt better in
DeMint is no doubt better in some regards than most of the other GOP Senators. But he's no Libertarian. He just says the GOP needs to lean more Libertarian. He's not a neocon, he's got that going for him. But he's also no Libertarian. He's a status quo Republican, but he actually backs those fiscally conservative views up.
Also, if DeMint steps down two years ago, Haley would be appointing a neocon. No doubt. But here in South Carolina, it's hard to find people that support her, her approval rating is falling hard. She'll probably appoint a "moderate" Republican. One that here "masters" approve of.
Marriage
should be 100% left up to the individuals involved in said marriage.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I'm just well-informed
Sorry brother, marriage is a religious term
It should be left up to churches and not force churches to marry, your welcome to get a union under the state. I've never had a problem with that.
Sure,
But what if you don't belong to a church? And does that have to be a Gov. sanctioned church or religion? Is that the same for straight couples?
Point is, it shouldn't matter at all to anyone but the individuals involved and their respective affiliations by which to be recognized. A legal document showing a union could be produced by said affiliation or lawyer, including estate, will, etc.
But I don't think the government should be involved. This whole tax exemption business for married couples shouldn't exist because they shouldn't be taxing our income in the first place.

Perfect reply
I 100% agree with you.

DeMint is not a supporter of
DeMint is not a supporter of Liberty. In the last couple of years, he's followed that philosophy of Liberty in regards to economics. But that's where his support stopped usually. He was a big candidate for the Tea Party, and he actually one of the more fiscal conservatives among the GOP.
However, he's still no Liberty supporter, and Liberty lover should remember him as one. Although his economics for the most part can be applauded.
I do not want Tom Davis appointed to his seat. And he won't anyways. Gov. Nikki Haley will most likely appoint a moderate because her GOP masters tell her to. Her approval rating here in SC is tanking right now. If she knew what was best for her, she'd appoint Davis to try to get backing of the Liberty Movement, but she won't because she's a neocon. Anybody getting there hopes up here thinking she'll appoint Davis is mistaken.
Tom Davis going against Graham is better anyways. Haley will most likely appoint a typical Republican candidate. Lindsey Graham and John McCain should be the Liberty movement's two biggest goals to oust in the Senate. Both of them have atrocious approval ratings in their states. But we need to throw our best stuff, because it's still the establishment we're going against. An appointed Senator is easier to defeat anyways.
ah so that is the catch at the end of the paragraph.. 'choice'
same old shit.. in the age of historical unemployment, feminism, abortion and gay marriage is what i am supposed to care about.. good riddance
He voted against NDAA indef detention, etc. & supported our guys
I think cheering his departure is short sighted, personally. I think he was tempted away to leave our folks more vulnerable.

I think a lot of supposed Liberty backers are short sighted.

It's fucking HILARIOUS
that so many so called Liberty supporters push people like him. These senators, congressmen and supporters are "Liberty" actors and that's about it.
We have a real chance to gain positions and get our natural rights back and these fuckstick rubes can't for their own life, pull themselves away from the neocon mentality.
Social issues that drive these politicians should be one of the defining signs of neocons.. They don't even deserve to be called conservatives because it's oxymoronic in nature.
Big government social issues=conservatism my ass.
