"Grandpaul" - My 4 year old never ceases to amaze me

Here is a quick little story that I hope you will find as inspiring as I did.

A few nights ago my wife, myself and my two daughters (4 and 8 months) were seated at the dinner table as we do every day. I cannot for the life of me remember exactly what it was we were talking about but it led me to say; "truth is a hard thing to come by these days, as long as I've been following this stuff I've only seen or hear one politician tell the truth". Wifey says sarcastically, "and who would that be?" Before I could even get it out, the four year old says, looking at her mother (this is what I thought I heard), "grandpaw silly". A little confused, because she calls my dad "granddad" and my wife's dad "pop-pop"; I pried her to figure out who she was talking about. She says you know daddy, the man who tells the truth and who's on your computer. My oh my how much these little ones soak up. What she actually said was "grandpaul silly", you know daddy the man that doesn't like fighting and always tells the truth. I said, "you mean Ron Paul" and she said yeah "grandpaul" I was stopped in my tracks. I think time actually stopped for a moment. You have to understand how off guard this caught me. I've never talked to her about politics...she four for crying out loud. She either picked it up from me watching RP you tubes at the breakfast table or talking with my friends or my wife. And where did she come up with "grandpaul." I've never said it or heard anyone say it. Grandpaul! does it get any better than that?

Then I got to thinking, which is sometimes a dangerous thing. I'm 34 and never really had any grandparents to speak of. My parents were older when they had me so they had passed on before I really got to spend any time with them. Ron Paul, and I'm just realizing this now, has sort of been the older wiser man I could look up to, sort of like a grand father.

After dinner she wanted to see Grandpaul, so I obliged an put on the recent "RP on Iran sanctions video" because it was the most recent one I watched. Of course she had no idea what was going on so 45 seconds in I she wanted to know what he was talking about. I basically explained to her that he was telling people that fighting is bad and that we shouldn't be bossy and tell other people what to do all the time. She says "yeah fighting is bad, and bossy sue is bad too" Bossy sue a term we use when she gets a little "bossy" with her friends.

Then I really got to thinking. What about a website: grandpaul.com that would teach kids, the basics of individual liberty and freedom using children's stories, games...stuff that kids are into. I'm not the techy type and I'm way to busy to even think about it any further but who knows, maybe one of you DP's might think it a good idea and actually have the skills to pull it off.

Anyways, thanks for listening. Hopefully I didn't bore you to tears with my little personal story.

**UPDATE**--Dp'er Robhino runs with it!

Great story!

My daughter was 4 during the 2008 campaign. I didn't involve her in too much campaigning, other than accompanying me while handing out Slim Jims in our precinct. I didn't think she really understood what we were doing until a moment while on vacation in Disney World. We were at the Hall of Presidents. After all the presidents had stood and spoken, she leans over to me and very loudly says, "But, Momma, where's Ron Paul?" She was heartbroken, when I told her that he hadn't been elected, yet. Her reply, "Well, we just gotta work harder then."

Such a sweet story

Thank you.

I think your story deserves its own thread.

My 4 year old seems to think

My 4 year old seems to think that Ron Paul and my dad have the same name. "GrandPaul" is how she says it as well! To her it is more of a title than it is a name.

Wonderful Idea!

Thanks for sharing this story with the rest of us. This gives me much hope for our future generation. They are awakening to the truths of liberty and freedom Ron Paul has sought for all Americans and peoople around the world. They are listening to the messages, ideas and warnings that Ron Paul has been sharing and what we must do to restore our Nation. God Bless Ron Paul and our future generation. I pray someone will run with this idea. I dont have the techno know-how to make this happen. But I think this a great idea!

This is funny. Ron is the

This is funny. Ron is the wise grandfatherly figure we look up to in a lot of our lives and your daughter pointed out the obvious. Kids really are like sponges. Scary.

Excellent

Love it!!!

I am not Christian, but

I am not Christian, but recently went to a church service near my house. I had never seen one do this, but they took out all the children before the service and said they were taking them to a special service so they could be taught about God in a way they would understand. The children all seemed very happy to go, and it left the room nice an quiet. I thought it was a grand idea, and so is yours. I hope someone does it and has pics of your kid on it..:)

Awesome story!

My 4-year-old loves listening to Ron Paul, too. He kept asking me if he could see him. And my 2-year-old knows his name, too.

I think you should email this

I think you should email this story to Dr. Paul. I think he'd be very touched by it. Love your idea about a children's site too. Get 'em while they're young!

Blessings )o(

I loved your story

...I read the whole article thinking she was referring to Rand Paul. Take the "g" off and that's what you got. I think that would be the one thing that would confuse people with a website, especially if Rand Paul continues to get more popular...awesome story though... :)

Grandpaul.com! Do buy the name, barker!!!

Kids for Liberty. . . Grandpaul story time for liberty. . .

Great story!

And a great idea too! GrandPaul.com...has a nice ring to it. Schools sure aren't teaching Constitutional Liberty, maybe it should have a section that helps teach civics to parents as well.
